Going on holiday tomorrow and I have covid ...

Pretty much that
Going to Lanzarote tomorrow and woke up Sunday with sore throat.
Anyway yesterday I had a lots of phlegm and felt like I had a head cold.
Had a test lying around and it was a strong positive.
I've never had covid before but at the minute it feels like a cold.
No temperature and I haven't lost my appetite /don't feel sick or anything just feel like I have a head cold.
I feel guilty having to get on a plane with covid but if I don't go it's a £3000 holiday
I am okay now to go abroad with covid aren't I?

@mummymayhem18 then you protect yourself
If your vulnerable don't go anywhere you might come into contact with people if your so neurotic about covid
It's not mine or anybody else's job to change our life because your vulnerable
The law is the law and it states you can go about your normal activities

What a vile comment.
we still have to work and live?? Unless we should end up homeless..
let’s hope you or your kids don’t end up with compromised immune systems, i wonder if you’ll say such awful things then?
i don't see the point in this, you’re going any way, you just want people to tell you it’s ok.

Delatron · 24/10/2023 21:39

Have a great holiday OP.
Don’t test in future! Half the plane probably has Covid/ a cold/ a virus. That’s how it is. That’s the risk we all take when we get on a plane

because they could well be, from an action done knowingly,

Covid is still killing dozens of people a week, and leaving many more disabled

See, you say this. But I know plenty of people who’ve had Covid, probably everyone I know, some have had it multiple times, but I don’t know a single person who’s been really ill with it. Not one.

For most people it has been a cold and had it not been in the media, it would have been entirely unremarkable from other seasonal illness and mild colds. When I had it I didn’t even know I had it, I only tested out of interest.

Perhaps this, and the behaviour of those in power, have made me feel more cavalier.

I would still go, although I wouldn't have tested in the first place.

The new strain, if she has that one, is anything but a cold and includes days of D&V and then weeks of whole body aches ,chills, fever, agonising headaches, severe back and chest pain and it seems to get worse over time, not better. Most people are spending days in bed unable to move their eyes without pain much less anything else. The new strain is a bloody monster so I hope to god she doesn’t have that, it starts with a normal cold.

Let’s hope op has a milder variant.

Ha! Well I look forward to you catching it and seeing just well you get on 😌

fridaynight1 · 25/10/2023 02:50

I would say go on holiday but wear a mask on the plane and get a window seat Face away from other people and try to avoid visiting the loo if possible.
I say this as someone who managed to avoid Covid all throughout the pandemic until last Christmas on a long haul flight back home - when my DD sat next to a woman who was coughing and spluttering throughout the flight. My DD tells me she (the woman) joked about how she was surprised that anyone would want to sit next to her. Consequently a few days later, DD and me tested positive for Covid.

At least the flight was on our way home at the end of our holiday.

Hope you feel better soon Flowers

ttcat37 · 25/10/2023 03:09

Like most decent members of society I couldn’t bear the thought of passing it to someone vulnerable who might die because of it. Pregnant women have a higher chance of dying or their babies dying if they catch covid in pregnancy. So I hope you feel happy with your decision that 3 grand is more important than someone else’s life.

I hope you have an awful holiday.

Bizarre to link to a thread where a lot of ill posters have tested negative.

I'm really not concerned about it 'hitting' my area - how dramatic? 😅 Fuck, people act like illnesses began in 2020!

🙋‍♀️
Horribly f-ing sick with it 5 f-ing times. 🤦‍♀️

BigYellowBear · 25/10/2023 05:59

I'm front line NHS I work with vulnerable patients. I had covid recently, I had a test lying around so used it.
I was flamed by my line manager for testing.
We are encouraged not to test, we don't get free tests anymore and nobody in my trust is required to test.
The rule is if you feel unwell stay at home, otherwise crack on and work🤷‍♀️

Marchitectmummy · 25/10/2023 06:19

Do as you would like others to would be my advise. If you would happily sit yourself or your child / parents whoever you care about next to someone with covid on a plane then that's your answer to whether it's the right thing to do or not.

If you read the whole thread you would see 90 % of pp had covid. The issue isn’t covid circulating duh, the issue is do you really want to be on a packed plane when the shits kicks in and you have 10 seconds to get to a loo?

Do you want to be in a hot country when your temp is 40c every day? It is not going to be fun tracking down meds because the headache you have is the worst you have known? And you are too ill to even watch tv.

I was simply warning op many of our symptoms this time started so mildly, and it really seems to kick in just when you think you are recovering. It was for ops benefit I was posting, certainly not for yours. I am not sure what you are even adding to the thread beyond being rude. I will not be responding to you again.

Op many healthy young people are being hospitalised with this new strain. It’s fucking brutal. I hope you have an older strain that will not incapacitate you. Covid is NOT a cold, colds don’t kill millions of people 🙄

Good luck. Pack lots of meds just in case.

I'd be fine with that personally!

EmmaDilemma5 · 25/10/2023 07:27

Of course you can go. I know ZeRO people who would give up a £3k holiday over COVID now. It's 2023, not 2020.

You'll feel better soon, go and have fun.

I’m pretty sure many of us sit next to people with Covid all the time.

I don’t think about it. It’s part of a circulating virus

I wouldn’t expect anyone to lose a £3k holiday. I doubt many on here actually would

EmmaDilemma5 · 25/10/2023 07:29

@Lastchancechica I work in healthcare and am aware of lots of people who have had COVID in the past 3-4 weeks. None hospitalised so far. I'm not sure where you're getting your info from.

EggEggEgg · 25/10/2023 07:49

@Overthebow

It’s up to those who are vulnerable and worried about covid to take measures to protect themselves, such as wearing proper masks or not travelling on a plane. It’s not up to everyone else when there is no requirement to isolate anymore and travel insurance won’t pay out for covid anymore.

Weird. You're suggesting that people that aren't sick with any virus should wear proper masks, while those that are sick do not? And that vulnerable people shouldn't travel unless they consent to do the things that you won't do? How bizarre.

navyplaint · 25/10/2023 08:11

Took a test this morning and it's negative
Still a bit sniffily but other than that I'm fine
Been up since 6 flights not till tonight 🤣

The 'stay at home, save lives' really got you, eh?

The vast majority of members of society are just getting on with life and living with the virus like it's a cold.

I'd be interested in the source that many young people are being hospitalised with Covid too. Though when I expressed disbelief at the claim that most couldn't move their eyes the source was a mumsnet thread so I wont be digging out my hazmat suit and mask just yet.
