Going on holiday tomorrow and I have covid ...

navyplaint · 24/10/2023 07:36

Pretty much that
Going to Lanzarote tomorrow and woke up Sunday with sore throat.
Anyway yesterday I had a lots of phlegm and felt like I had a head cold.
Had a test lying around and it was a strong positive.
I've never had covid before but at the minute it feels like a cold.
No temperature and I haven't lost my appetite /don't feel sick or anything just feel like I have a head cold.
I feel guilty having to get on a plane with covid but if I don't go it's a £3000 holiday
I am okay now to go abroad with covid aren't I?

It's not a head cold... OP is saying it's Covid so presumably they know it's Covid.

Yes, which is presenting like a head cold.

I don't know anyone who would cancel a £3000 holiday for a that - that's just batshit to me. Insurance likely wouldn't pay out either as it's not illegal to travel with Covid anymore,

If Covid didn't exist she wouldn't even be thinking about cancelling.

In real life nobody would cancel a 3grand holiday for mild Covid symptoms....this is Mumsnet though 🙄

HappiDaze · 24/10/2023 13:50

@Flopsythebunny if you go anywhere you'll be served or looked after by Drs and Nurses all with Covid and no longer isolating

It's up to you if you want to leave the house or not

Which is why I don't.
My oncologist and the staff on the ward and in haematology test regularly and do not work in the dept if they have covid. The dept has its own entrance.

CharlotteRose90 · 24/10/2023 13:57

I work for an airline and people travel with covid all the time sadly, it’s normal now. It’s the same as any cold and we have to accept it. I’m currently on round 4 of covid and I’m severely immunocompromised but I’m still going to work etc. life goes on

And Covid will always be a "thing" because of the attitudes of half of the posters on this thread. Go OP....have a fab time.

HappiDaze · 24/10/2023 14:04

Yes Oncology will be a lot stricter that's true

Gymmum82 · 24/10/2023 14:13

id go. I’d probably wear a mask on the plane to try and prevent spreading. That’s what we do currently at work. Even if it’s just a cold or testing negative. I do it out of care for my colleagues. We work in close contact and no one wants to be ill.
I had the most horrendous cough/cold/respiratory virus which wiped me out for over 6 weeks, it wasn’t Covid. I still wouldn’t have wished it on anyone. So I would wear a mask for the plane at least

lemmein · 24/10/2023 14:26

The cev have just been forgotten about it seems

Oh behave! The economy and NHS has been wrecked because of restrictions. People were unable to leave their homes for the best part of 2 years to protect the cev. Children's education was massively disrupted - some died in abusive homes due to lockdown for a virus unlikely to affect them.

People need to stop calling others selfish for living their lives; if you're vulnerable take precautions to protect your own health - the country cannot afford to keep locking positive people away for mild cold symptoms!

Meadowfly · 24/10/2023 15:07

Quite. A generation of school children have been effected in all sorts of ways because of the two years they spent protecting the cev. Not saying they shouldn’t have but it’s unfair to try to stop people living normal lives.

navyplaint · 24/10/2023 08:08

It's frustrating as I always use my hand gel after touching cash points /handles etc
Wash my hands constantly
Yet still caught it
It's playing out same as a cold for me
Scratchy sore throat
Yesterday tickly cough
Now today that's gone and my nose is running like a tap

That's because it's an airborne upper respiratory tract infection, it's highly unlikely you'd catch it from touching cash points/handles etc. A decent mask is the best way to avoid catching/passing on Covid.

myhusbandwantsadog · 24/10/2023 15:25

I think you should go. Take what precautions you can, and enjoy your holiday.
I've been told I'm extremely vulnerable to Covid. Last year I was in hospital with a cold and on oxygen and months of steroids for a bloody cold. I bet no one would cancel their holiday for a cold. Life is for living, I got very unlucky.

FrenchandSaunders · 24/10/2023 15:29

Unable to leave home for 2 years! What country was that!! 🤣

Helenloveslee4eva · 24/10/2023 15:40

Just che n your travel insurance will pay should you become seriously unwell.

Lastchancechica · 24/10/2023 16:07

I wouldn’t go. I would have the flu - call the drs claim on the insurance.

Why?

Because I have just had covid.

The first 5 days were grand, and just like a cold and then it kicked in properly on day 5/6 and I was bed bound and could barely walk for nearly a week. I have never been so ill, and can’t imagine being that sick overseas. It was hell. It’s taken 5 weeks to recover. My dh and xx all had the same experience. It’s a really nasty strain that can really make you very unwell indeed. My neighbour was hospitalised.

So I would change the dates yes.

SuperNewMe · 24/10/2023 16:27

@Tailfeather ·
The problem here is that you've done a test. I wouldn't have. I would have assumed it was a cold and gone. I would probably have worn a mask on the plane

Yes, this.
Why did you even bother testing if you didnt want to know the answer?
You should have just assumed it was a cold and then been none the wiser.
Now you know, you should stay at home.
You don't have to, but you should imo.

Tailfeather · 24/10/2023 16:31

navyplaint · 24/10/2023 12:52

Thanks everyone for all your advice
I am going on holiday and hope my runny nose is playing ball tomorrow
The weather is looking nice so the sunshine should help

Enjoy!

SuperNewMe · 24/10/2023 16:32

I am going on holiday and hope my runny nose is playing ball tomorrow

🙄 Biscuit
So why bother testing in the first place and then coming on here to ask for other opinions if you're going to do what you like anyway?!

Inastatus · 24/10/2023 16:33

@Lastchancechica - but the OP is feeling much better and only has a runny nose! Myself, DS and DD had it recently and we only had mild symptoms for a few days. I guess your family/neighbour were just unlucky.

cornflower21 · 24/10/2023 16:36

navyplaint · 24/10/2023 07:55

I don't feel unwell at all
I feel like I have a cold
My sore throat is gone
Today I'm just sneezing

Just go op.

cornflower21 · 24/10/2023 16:41

Enjoy your holidays op!🌻

NannyGythaOgg · 24/10/2023 17:03

Yes

Tessasanderson · 24/10/2023 17:08

Not sure why you even tested. There is no legal requirement to and what benefit is there to someone who 'has a cold' knowing its covid?

Enjoy your holiday

MrsMurphyIWish · 24/10/2023 17:16

Go and enjoy! DH has woken up today ill after us being at a gig Saturday or it could be the fact we’re both teachers and have kids of our own, so germs all of sorts are rampant at this time of year.

It would hurt me more to lose 3k than being I’ll on holiday!

BTW, why test?

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 24/10/2023 17:42

I would go for sure. I've just been ill with sore throat and coughing and not tested and done everything and would've gone on holiday as well.

2023shady · 24/10/2023 18:05

@Flopsythebunny will they not give you your boosters? I'm permanently neutropenic and had mine with no questions (0.3 last bloods)

Hibiscrubbed · 24/10/2023 20:00

You shouldn’t have tested.
