I'll leave it to you what constitutes a classic. I'm not the thread police.

I'm torn between Anne of Green Gables, Black Beauty and A Little Princess.

What were your favourites growing up?

@Wincarnis
Yes to Ruby Ferguson's 'Jill' books, I so regret getting rid of my copies when downsizing. They're now all available as ebooks for £3.95 via Jane Badger's website!

I have several vintage Jill books on my inherited book shelf but didn’t read them myself so they must be my sister’s. Maybe I should read them now - I remember asking for a pony for Christmas aged about 8 and the answer being ‘No’ 😂

Also loved the Pullein-Thompson sisters pony books, and a series written by the show jumper Pat Smythe.

Just putting this out there, my DNiece who’s 6 says The Famous Five books are her favourite. Her cousin my DNephew who’s 5 would agree with her but add Dog Man and Greek Myths and Legends.

So many already mentioned here but as an older child, the Lois Duncan books; 'young adult ' before there was such a category. I Know What You Did Last Summer, Stranger With My Face, Locked in Time...

Does anyone remember the one where a girl's family adopted their cousin whose parents were killed in a car crash? Can't remember the title. Loved them all anyway, really suspenseful.
