What were/are your favourite children's classic books?

I'll leave it to you what constitutes a classic. I'm not the thread police.

I'm torn between Anne of Green Gables, Black Beauty and A Little Princess.

What were your favourites growing up?

The Secret Garden - Frances Hodgson Burnett. One of my favourite books ever, it captures bereavement, loss and recovery so perfectly.

I really enjoyed the Paddington bear stories, also 101 Dalmatians is a great story.

Children of Greene Knowe

I’ll add King of the Wind - I always dreamed of owning an Arab horse and now I do. I also loved the Jinny at Finmory books - For Love of a Horse, A Devil to Ride.

The Little White Horse by Elizabeth Goudge. I've read it so many times, it's perfect! And one of JKRs favourites apparently, I feel like I can see the influence in HP a little

The Phantom Tollbooth.

The Giraffe, the Pelly and Me
Peter Pan and Wendy (the real one, not the Disney travesties!)
The Worst Witch.
The Angelina Ballerina series.
The Lion, Witch and the Wardrobe.

And because I'm sure they will one day be counted as classics - Harry Potter.

I agree with so many of these especially Watership Down.

A few others that I loved as a child were White Fang, Call of The Wild, The Water Babies, The Railway Children, The Swiss Family Robinson and more modern but When Hitler Stole Pink Rabbit.

Loved them all.

I was a complete bookworm but could never get into Noel Streatfeild's books. None of her characters ever gelled with me.
