Best teabags?

I bought Tetley and they are awful, I don't know why but they just don't taste like tea!

Can anyone answer the ultimate question of what is the best tea? I don't want to spend a fortune buying lots of different disappointing teas 😁

Williamson Tea from Waitrose. Just perfect.

My ability to taste tea got really messed up by Covid. I was always a TyPhoo addict before, but now I can barely taste it and have converted to Bird & Blend Great British Cuppa, which is pricey but really really lovely and strong. They also do a Builders' Breakfast Brew, which is OK but doesn't quite hit the spot for me.

It's this for me! Most of their teas are fantastic, Tea & Toast is my current favourite, and Snowball! I have a bit of a collection!

I can't believe that no-one has suggested PG Tips. It is the king of teas IMO.

Bob on! Nothing beats PG Tips.

I haven't rtft (we tea drinkers have a lot of strong opinions lol) but I assume Barry's has already come up? It's all we drink at home.

It's not in the local shops like it used to be so I do a subscription from the manufacturer.

Maybe 10-15 years ago tea started tasting miserable to me and I did a supermarket brands taste test which is how I landed on Barry's.

I spend a lot of time in Dorset and I also like Twinings Extra Strong there but it doesn't taste good in London.

Barry’s Gold.

I fill my suitcase with it every time I’m on the east side of the pond!

I used to do this but they sell it widely in NJ now.
Tbh I still pack a small sandwich bag of Barry's just in case. Availability was irregular for a while and once I ended up getting it shipped from Ireland. For the last couple of years it's always in the supermarket.

Paperpurple · 21/10/2023 21:32

There's Barry's Master Blend now too.

ACGTHelix · 21/10/2023 21:42

at the moment ive got some tea bags from the tin with william and kate on it.
then normal shop ones i use Pg tips. sometimes i use supermarket own brands but middle level prices rather than cheap cheap ones as the very cheap are not very tasty for a cuppa.

LadyEloise1 · 21/10/2023 21:45

@heldinadream I too love Punjana tea by Thomspons.

I'm a bit embarrassed to admit it as I am Irish and we're only supposed to like either prefer Barry's Tea or Lyons Tea. 😀

Darklane · 21/10/2023 21:53

Typhoo, though it’s getting harder to come by

cdhmum · 21/10/2023 22:32

Rington's English breakfast
Yorkshire Gold Tea
Twining's English breakfast
Yorkshire Tea

In that order!

Is that the one in the black box? I slightly prefer the red box but they're both great tbh, Barry's never lets me down

Paperpurple · 22/10/2023 00:31

Yes, that's the one@smokingcarriageonly.
It's that bit stronger than Gold Blend and also a little more expensive. I think Gold Blend is probably the more popular in general but we like the stronger blend in our house.

CallieQ · 22/10/2023 01:11

M&S Gold

IfOnlyOurEyesSawSouls · 22/10/2023 01:24

Twinings is worse than Tetley !

Yorkshire tea for us .

snoreb · 22/10/2023 01:26

Yorkshire tea biscuit brew

Freshstart78 · 22/10/2023 01:29

Yorkshire red obviously

I like Clipper Fairtrade teas best, a good strong taste and bright colour.

Agree with this! Not only is it great tasting but also often on sale.

Strokethefurrywall · 22/10/2023 02:12

Yorkshire. I live overseas and it's my taste of home.
Strong as hell, tasty as fuck.

I never thought this would happen but we've moved from Yorkshire tea to Sainsbury's own red box or gold box. Can't be doing with wishy washy tea which is why we stayed with Yorkshire for years but I have to say Sainsbury's is equal or better in strength and flavour imo.

I was about to post the same thing! I was a Yorkshire drinker for years but a friend made me a cup of Sainsbury's red and it's fantastic.

Another vote for PG Tips. A really solid everyday tea, good strength and flavour and doesn't take long to brew.

BOOTS52PollyPrissyPants · 22/10/2023 06:18

Barrys black tea bags lovely.

I was wondering the same, and I'm American! lol I've only been able to buy it here recently and I love it. I have a dedicated tea cabinet with a whole collection I'm rather proud of and PG Tips is a favorite among many others.

kingkongs · 22/10/2023 06:46

Always had Yorkshire but I'm getting fed up of the price so I'm going to try out the Sainsbury's red label (I think I used to buy them years ago!)

junbean · 22/10/2023 06:50

Rising temps from climate change has affected many crops including tea - making it more bitter and lower quality.

Same. Tetley is passable, as is Tesco own brand. Really dislike the flavour of M&S tea and those Teapigs (?) ones in slightly pretentious silky bags as they're weak if you like plenty of milk.

Yorkshire is ok but a bit strong for me. I can't stand Earl Grey, tastes like sipping perfume.

My biggest bugbear is hotels not providing fresh milk but those little UHT capsules. I am well aware I'm being precious about this but often often resorting to stealing a small jug of fresh milk from breakfast.
