I keep seeing mixed reports. It’s really unsettling not to know.

Thankfully so was hers stating I'm happy people died because they are muslim palestinians.

Just because you say you 'feel' a certain way it doesn't give you free reign to massacre 1000s of civilians. Feelings and reality are not the same thing. I have answered your end question so many times I am bored of it at this stage and cannot be arsed typing it out.

It's not about Israel "feeling" a certain way. They have ample evidence starting from the initial declaration of independence, that they are under threat:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_wars_involving_Israel

A solution needs to come from both sides, and one side needs to give assurances that they no longer wish and aim for the destruction of Israel, and until Israel has that assurance nothing will change.

Those are facts. As is the fact that this current round of the conflict was sparked by the Hamas terrorist attack, and that they run the Gaza strip. They cannot evade responsibility for the bloodshed that is now taking place.

The facts are Israel gets 3.8billion every year from the US to spend on their 'protection'. The have one of the best intelligence services in the world. They have the iron dome. They have 2.2million people in a cage. They have control of those peoples utilities, food and border. Of course it is about a feeling because in reality Israel can squash Gaza in days. They are showing that.

I think what is being suggested is that Palestinian population growth is not down to births. It is down to jihadis flocking to Palestine from all over the world and bringing their families with them so that they can wage a holy war.

Some people are incredibly naive and have really swallowed a lot of propaganda. I find it interesting that the phrasing is always the same- genocide, occupiers, colonialism.

And yet none of them every know how the Jews were cleansed from every major city in the Arab world as part of the huge pogroms at the start of the 20th century. Why are there so many Jews in Israel? Because the Egyptians and the Saudi’s burned them out of their homes.

This must be the most far fetched thing i have read ! Jihadis go to live in gaza Confused

Noicant · 19/10/2023 17:55

Quite a few analysts have said most likely a bomb from Gaza that fell on that carpark. It’s utterly irresponsible of people to be making shit up.

Everyone in the middle east seems to think the IDF blew up a hospital full of people but it seems most likely that someones rocket from Gaza accidentally hit a carpark. Within 2 hours of the bomb falling Hamas had declared 500 people dead. I mean clearly it’s nonsense.

I don’t think people understand how destabilising bad reporting has been here. People are going BATSHIT in the middle east, talks have been cancelled (you know those ones trying to stop escalation, allowing aid, saving lives, stuff that people in Gaza really really need right now). The morons defending this or blaming the IDF because they want their side to win rather than look at the evidence are making it worse not better for Gazans. All these delays to getting around a table costs lives.

Yeah it sounds a bit mad but people do all sorts, like pack their family up and move to Raqqah. I would believe that individual Hezbollah memebers go and set up shop for training etc. I’m not sure many would want their families there though.

I very much agree. It's all very well getting more and more heated and posting about it but it is having real-world consequences that are likely to prolong the conflict and result in more deaths.

DivingForLove · 19/10/2023 18:04

@Noicant totally agree. It does absolutely look like it was a Hamas rocket - so tragic but they are using it for political gain and it’s working 😢.

MiniTheMinx · 19/10/2023 18:06

FreeCoathangers · 19/10/2023 16:27

So, you agree the Hamas attack last week was a genocide then? Great, I'll start using it in normal conversation when mentioning Hamas.

No I do not agree Coathanger.
What part of this do you not understand: So, according to you there is no genocide because 1) you do not accept the legal definition, 2) you fail to understand that intent can be read retrospectively from outcome 3) there is no genocide because they are breeding faster than they can be killed

I will suggest to you that you do not understand 2) you fail to understand that intent can be read retrospectively from outcome

Human rights law does not exist in a vacuum separate to all other law. So whilst Hamas has stated it "strives to raise the banner of Allah over every inch of Palestine" it also states, "for under the wing of Islam followers of all religions can coexist in security and safety where their lives, possessions......." they intend to "expand their control from the Nile to the Euphrates" and some absolute fruitcake stuff besides about killing Jews have been said alongside rallying people to jihad. I see no proof that either any intent or actions thus far constitute proof of genocide since there is no evidence that any crime fitting the definition of genocide has been yet committed. To the contrary their efforts are futile and having quite the opposite outcome. It doesn't meet the test of there being both intent and outcome. Terrorism isn't genocide simply because it is terrorism.

Where have you been then? The Islamist Palestinian cause has mostly been run by Arabs from other countries since 1948. Yes Jihad fighters do go to live in Gaza. They often take their wives too. Hence children are born so the whole immediate family are there. If they can get missiles, weapons and explosives from places like Syria and North Korea into the country, Jihad fighters getting into or leaving Gaza isn't to much of an issue. Most the leaders have a massive property portfolio aboard too. Basically if you are part of Hamas there there are ways to get past boarder restrictions etc.

There are obviously families in Gaza that desend from the original indigenous Arab population. However in the 30 years before 1948 500k Arabs arrived in the Mandate for economic reasons. Then since 1948 it has attracted Muslim extremists and there families who want to further the cause.

"Population of pre-Mandate Palestine was 800k about 80k of whom were Jewish, the rest a mix of Turks, Bedouins, Muslim & Christian Arabs, & European ex-pats.

Over 500k of that initial 800k were Arabs who arrived between 1932 & 1944 attracted by the Yishuv's burgeoning finances."

@immigrant002

Let’s remind ourselves why Shamima Begum travelled to join Islamic State. That’s right. She was so indoctrinated that she thought it was her holy purpose to travel to a war zone and marry a jihadi fighter.

Some communities teach that this is the highest form of service to God. So yes, they arrive and marry and have kids. Why do you think that such a high proportion of the Palestinian population are children?

Do you know that just because one happens the other one can also happen? And it’s good to give visibility to them ? We all agree that Hamas are evil. Some of us are also reporting what the IDF is doing and why we are where we are

also there is something different here. She’s a Jew journalist reporting the threats she’s receiving for doing her work. Should journalist receive threats for doing their work ?

27Mankinis · 19/10/2023 18:37

You know the phrase 'Jew journalist' is quite anti semitic in itself I assume.
