Do we actually know who bombed the hospital in Gaza yet?

I keep seeing mixed reports. It’s really unsettling not to know.

@tigerlily0 There were babies and children killed in substantial numbers on 7 October, verifiably.
Not only is that man's tweet offensively dismissive of that but he's talking rubbish about the hospital bombing.

I'm actually staggered at the amount of useful idiots shilling for a terrorist organisation.

swirlingabyss · 19/10/2023 09:12

I'm staggered at the number of useful idiots like @SomeCatFromJapan shilling for the murderous behaviour of the govt of Israel, who let's face it were the original oppressor in this situation and have killed since 2008 (6407) and taken hostage (2.2m) far greater numbers than Palestine

https://www.ochaopt.org/data/casualties

Numbers above, UN verified.

SomeCatFromJapan · 19/10/2023 09:14

@swirlingabyss I've never shilled for Israel, I criticised them for years for their heavy handedness.
Then I saw the footage of the attacks of 7 October and I realised what Hamas is.

‘Fake Israeli babies’

Think about what you are promoting

SomeCatFromJapan · 19/10/2023 09:16

I saw the hypocrisy too. A country had suffered the worst mass atrocity imaginable and so many people justified it or qualified their "sympathy".

swirlingabyss · 19/10/2023 09:19

@SomeCatFromJapan no person on this thread supports the actions of Hamas.

We are SUPPORTING palestine, whilst deploring the behaviour of Hamas and the Israeli govt.

IOnlycreatedaccountforthispost · 19/10/2023 08:09

So you are the only person qualified to decide if something is genocide or not. You are the only person with the knowledge to have an opinion. Anyone who doesn’t agree with your stance has been radicalised. Come on!

You've twisted my words.

Fact 1 - The Palestinian population has grown massively in the last 30 years.
Fact 2 - So far unfortunately 3300 people have died in Gaza since the conflict.

It's not a genocide.

Anyone can have an opinion, but to not take the facts on board leads me to think they are just shouting out "genocide" for effect.

SomeCatFromJapan · 19/10/2023 09:23

@swirlingabyss so why post tweets minimising the terrorist attack? How does that help support Palestine?

swirlingabyss · 19/10/2023 09:25

UN expert:

https://www.ohchr.org/en/press-releases/2023/10/un-expert-warns-new-instance-mass-ethnic-cleansing-palestinians-calls

GENEVA (14 October 2023) – A UN human rights expert warned today that Palestinians are in grave danger of mass ethnic cleansing and called on the international community to urgently mediate a ceasefire between warring Hamas and Israeli occupation forces.

“There is a grave danger that what we are witnessing may be a repeat of the 1948 Nakba, and the 1967 Naksa, yet on a larger scale. The international community must do everything to stop this from happening again,” the UN expert said. She noted that Israeli public officials have openly advocated for another Nakba, the term for the events of 1947-1949 when over 750,000 Palestinians were expelled from their homes and lands during the hostilities that led to the establishment of the State of Israel. The Naksa, which led to Israel’s occupation of the West Bank and the Gaza Strip in 1967, displaced 350,000 Palestinians.

“Israel has already carried out mass ethnic cleansing of Palestinians under the fog of war,” the expert said. “Again, in the name of self-defence, Israel is seeking to justify what would amount to ethnic cleansing.

RoyalImpatience · 19/10/2023 09:26

Need what sorry?

Their previous government was corrupt and bled the dry, hammas presented themselves as the answer... To theirs previous government. Then they seized power.

@swirlingabyss so why post tweets minimising the terrorist attack? How does that help support Palestine?

I didn't post any tweets minimising the attack, another poster did.

But facts matter when reporting an emotive subject like this.

SomeCatFromJapan · 19/10/2023 09:33

Do you know why it's taking the Israeli authorities so long to conclude the post-attack forensics? Because many of the bodies are burnt or in otherwise very poor condition.

You know as well as I do that many children and babies were massacred. There was obviously huge confusion when the military and reporters first arrived on the scene and yet within that, some disengenious ghouls got hung up on this particular and disgusting snippit and used it to attempt to deny and minimise the atrocities. It's been repeated again and again on these threads and you're carrying on with it now. It's gross, stop it.

But facts matter when reporting an emotive subject like this.

They certainly do, but that didn't stop anyone two nights ago after the confused reporting about the hospital attack and two threads full of vitriol and hysteria had to be deleted.

Firstly, the UN expert there doesn't say a word about genocide.

Secondly, ethnic cleansing is not defined or a crime in international law, according the United Nations.

Thirdly, they say "MAY" and don't suggest definitely happening.

Given their track record over the course of the latter part of the last century and the start of this century. I hold the UN in contempt and they are a compromised organisation they do not have the support of the Global population.

IOnlycreatedaccountforthispost · 19/10/2023 09:36

@RoyalImpatience I am interested to know if you think that there is nothing wrong with the way Palestinians are kept in Gaza or if you believe it is their own fault? I’m not going to jump on you for whatever answer you give, I’m just curious. I’d also like to ask what you believe the long term solution there is for the Palestinians apart from to leave the country. How will denouncing Hamas remove them for their current state of being?

Gruntsandgroans · 19/10/2023 09:36

RoyalImpatience · 19/10/2023 09:26

Need what sorry?

Their previous government was corrupt and bled the dry, hammas presented themselves as the answer... To theirs previous government. Then they seized power.

You see the thing is though you are acting like if Hamas disappeared tomorrow everything would be fine. So long as Israel controls Gaza everything will not be fine for Palestinians.

Did you know that the Irish Tánaiste, our minister for defence visited Israel earlier this year. He was concerned about the increased violence amongst settlers in the OPT. He wanted to visit Gaza while he was there. First off he had to ask Israels permission to visit Gaza. Can you imagine having to ask Irelands permission before visiting Northern Ireland? Then he was refused. Blocked from visiting by Gaza by the Israeli government. Are these the actions of a country that want Gaza to thrive? If they do this with a visiting minister imagine what they refuse to let enter Gaza on a daily basis? It's all kinds of fucked up. I don't see how anyone can deny that?

crumblingschools · 19/10/2023 09:38

@DownNative so is Ethnic cleansing fine? If Palestinians were claiming they were Ethnic Cleansing Israel that would be fine too?

How many Palestinians have died in conflict compared to Israelis over the years? Who has more freedom?

RoyalImpatience · 19/10/2023 09:38

Things would be immeasurably better yes. Of course it would. A huge reason Israel controls gaza is because of hammas

FreeCoathangers · 19/10/2023 09:38

tigerlily0 · 19/10/2023 09:08

I also don't get what ppl don't understand. Israel was only formed by America on stolen land. They then made A LITERAL OPEN AIR PRISON. For Palestinians of Gaza. It's a literally prison with netting above and military checkpoints. They have food water aid and everything restricted on a daily, they had education restricted, they have their homes stolen from under their feet by israeli Jews who believe they are entitled to it. Israel is backed by America, paid for by America. Palestinians have literally nothing so when they fight for freedom why is that a problem, would you not do the same if you were being oppressed? I have seen children with stones trying to fight big Israeli fighter tanks. I wish ppl would research the history and the lives of the Palestinians.

You're aware that Israel totally withdrew from Gaza in order to promote peace and cooporation in the area. That turned out well for them, didn't it?

Palestine gets BILLIONS of aid every year, they money isn't spent on the people of Palestine, it's spent on hate.

Totalblindnessofthesoul · 19/10/2023 09:39

I guess that humanitarian aid will have to wait a little longer. Israel has bombed the road leading to the crossing again...

SomeCatFromJapan · 19/10/2023 09:39

@RoyalImpatience this is the point people seem to be missing. There's a blockade because Gaza is run by Hamas. Surely 7 October would have illustrated that clearly enough?
If Gaza was run by a politicial party that accepted Israel's right to exist the picture would be very different.

swirlingabyss · 19/10/2023 09:41

"Firstly, the UN expert there doesn't say a word about genocide."

No, but the 800 signatories, mostly professors of Genocide Studies, History etc of distinguished universities across the world (including, for example, Stamford) did in the linked letter posted above in the thread did.

"Thirdly, they say "MAY" and don't suggest definitely happening."

Israel has already carried out mass ethnic cleansing of Palestinians under the fog of war,” the expert said. “Again, in the name of self-defence, Israel is seeking to justify what would amount to ethnic cleansing.

And regardless of if you think ethnic cleansing is illegal, promoting the idea it's somehow ok is very morally dubious.

You're Irish?

Why does Ireland hate Israel? - opinion

Underlying antisemitism is only one part of an explanation of Irish hostility. Viewing the Arab-Israel conflict solely through a distorted lens is another.
