I keep seeing mixed reports. It’s really unsettling not to know.

For the argument that there will be peace when the hamas are eracictated i ask you is there peace in west bank ? Hamas have no control there have a look at how many palestinian children have been killed in west bank

No matter what excuse israeli give most uk people will believe it

Boundoverbyacat · 18/10/2023 19:53

so it’s okay for Israel to wipe out everyone living in Gaza?

no. Israel have never stated that as an aim though so that’s ok.

SomeCatFromJapan · 18/10/2023 19:54

@EasterIssland that was a bit of the malfuctioning rocket, not a plane.

In terms of this getting resolved (as unlikely as that currently seems), it won't happen until countries like Iran give their historic beef with Israel a rest and stop funding Hamas. Clearly Israel will remain on a war footing as long as it feels threatened and the blockade and periodic outbreaks of war and death will just keep playing out endlessly.

And no I don't agree with everything Israel does, there are clearly issues that need to be addressed on their side too. Netanyahu is an uber-hawk and not a good partner for peace. And no they definately should not be shrinking the Gaza strip.

It actually feels hopeless at present, everyone is entenched, angry and traumatised and it's at an absolute stalemate.

Struggggggling · 18/10/2023 19:38

So how is Israel wiping out Hamas when the chief operators live in Qatar?

Why isn't Israel asking its allies in the west to apply pressure on the Qatari government to hand them over?

Why is Israel instead conducting this mass genocide and ripping apart whole families?

Surely you must see the goal here isn't Hamas the goal here is to extinguish the Palestinian people?

The goal is absolutely to extinguish Hamas. Unfortunately as Hamas are hiding behind the Palestinians, and there are a lot of Hamas still in Gaza, the Palestinians are caught in the cross fire. Are you not angry at Hamas for putting them in this position?

immigrant002 · 18/10/2023 19:55

And lets say we believe it hamas/or the "other team " missfired a rocket

Why did US vetoed himanatarian pause to allow aid in in gaza ?? Why do they keep denying humanitarian crisis ??

telegraph now reporting the Israeli foreign minister saying the Gaza strip is going to shrink after the war. Blatant land grab.

Israel’s foreign minister said that it will shrink the Gaza Strip, raising fears that parts of the territory will be annexed or reoccupied at the end of the war.
Speaking to Israel’s Army Radio on Wednesday, Eli Cohen vowed to eliminate Hamas from Gaza and then predicted a “decrease” in Gazan territory.
“At the end of this war, not only will Hamas no longer be in Gaza, but the territory of Gaza will also decrease,” he said.

"Security in the area around Rafah is also of concern to Egypt because Sinai has been the site of an Islamist insurgency that flared a decade ago. Hamas, which has run the Gaza Strip since 2007, shares the Islamist ideology of the Muslim Brotherhood, a movement outlawed in Egypt."

And:

"Hamas' deadly attack on southern Israel six days ago - unprecedented for the group in its planning and scale - was a devastating demonstration of the military expertise it has gained since seizing control of Gaza in 2007....

Necessity is the mother of invention," said Ali Baraka, a senior Hamas official, adding that the group had long drawn on money and training from Iran and Iranian regional proxies like Lebanon's Hezbollah, while bolstering its own forces in Gaza.

Difficulties in importing weapons meant that over the past nine years "we developed our capabilities and are able to manufacture locally", said Baraka, who is based in Lebanon....

In the 2008 Gaza war, Hamas rockets had a maximum range of 40 km (25 miles), but that had risen to 230 km by the 2021 conflict, he added.

After the most recent Gaza war in 2021, Hamas and an affiliated group called Palestinian Islamic Jihad managed to retain 40% of their missile inventories, a key target of the Israelis, according to the U.S. based non-profit Jewish Institute for National Security of America, keeping roughly 11,750 missiles compared with 23,000 before the conflict."

www.reuters.com/world/middle-east/bombardments-hit-area-gaza-sinai-border-crossing-gaza-officials-2023-10-10/

So, as a result of Israel Defense Force pulling out of Gaza in 2005, Hamas ended up in power just two years later. And increasingly improved their weapons capabilities whilst increasing their total membership from 10,000 in 1990 to 40,000 in 2023.

It's quite clear that Israeli withdrawal from Gaza made things worse from a National Security perspective.

Not better.

"Hamas was probably more successful than it thought it would be, but also more successful than it should have been for its own good.....Hamas aimed to penetrate Israel in a way that would give it centrality and relevance for decades to come, but by killing hundreds of Israelis and taking 150 hostages in the first days, Hamas has put itself in an impossible position. Israel is united in its determination to change the status quo ante and completely push Hamas from power. It is hard to imagine that Hamas will be able to retain power in Gaza when the dust settles. There may be hope for the Palestinian national cause, but there’s very little hope for Hamas."

And:

"Since Hamas took power in 2007, the Israeli military periodically would go into Gaza, fight with Hamas, and destroy some of its infrastructure. Hamas would rebuild for a few years, and then the cycle would repeat itself. Israelis called this “mowing the grass,” an unpleasant but necessary repetitive task. This cycle is no longer going to be acceptable to the Israeli public or political leadership. Now, the question is what kind of government will emerge in Gaza after the war. It might entail greater control for the Palestinian National Authority based in Ramallah, some sort of new local governance, governance under the tutelage of the Israeli military, or perhaps a coalition of Arab states. There are a lot of possibilities, but it is hard to imagine that Hamas can remain in power."

No State would allow a territory as hostile as Gaza to continue on as it has from 2005 to 2023 where a terrorist group grew larger, improved their weapons capabilities and became more capable of very significant attacks.

According to statement from a prominent Israeli figure, they did.
He was quick in deleting the tweet after backlash. But nothing disappears from the internet.

Do we actually know who bombed the hospital in Gaza yet?

SomeCatFromJapan · 18/10/2023 18:36

So Israeli bombs come in just one size?

What, you think they have special little dinky ones that make a crater that could be done with a pickaxe?
Sorry to be facetious but this is such a reach.

🤣🤣

The rockets are not going the same way. Even if it was a rocket gone the other way shouldn’t you see the light of the rocket moving to the left ?

FreeCoathangers · 18/10/2023 19:58

The same Jackson Hinkle who was thrown off Youtube and is now begging people to pay him $3 for his Twitter feed? And yeah, I can't see any Aircraft in that picture? He's a grifter.

FreeCoathangers · 18/10/2023 20:01

I see people are still recycling fake tweets and other nonsense from yesterday, in the complete desperation that people will believe it wasn't Hamas or their allies responsible for the incident.

It's fascinating that people can complete the mental gymnastics to achieve this.

Boundoverbyacat · 18/10/2023 20:01

Jason Hinckle is a nasty conspiracy theorist grifter. Also look at the tweets underneath his post. Is this the kind of people whose ‘side’ you’re aligning with? Full of vile anti semitism

@User8743 do you know who that actually is? An Israeli influencer. He has zero to do with the government of the IDF. Why are you sharing this as ‘proof.’ Did you think he was a politician or something?

The hospital was attacked a few days before in order to get evacuated so could be this as well the reason

Abbas and Fatah are struggling to maintain control over the West Bank because Palestinians there perceive the Palestinian Authority Government as being weak.

West Bank Palestinians opposed Abbas' decision to cancel the 2021 elections which came after polls indicated Fatah would suffer another humiliating defeat by Hamas.

Some reading:

ecfr.eu/article/cancellation-costs-abbas-and-palestinian-democracy?amp=

www.haaretz.com/opinion/2023-04-13/ty-article-opinion/.premium/president-mahmoud-abbas-has-destroyed-the-palestinian-national-movement/00000187-7a26-dc6c-a5ff-7f77277e0000

foreignpolicy.com/2023/02/06/palestinian-authority-israel-west-bank-security-cooperation-suspended-mahmoud-abbas

Hamas have support in West Bank and 72% of Palestinians support forming more terrorist groups in West Bank.

Wherever terrorist groups operate, there will always be civilian deaths. That's why they must be defeated.

Again back to Hamas, without any form or ability to critise Israel.
This won't end till both sides see the harm they have caused.

And yes I am devastated and I wish pressure was being placed on Qatar to hand over the Hamas leaders. Israel has the ability to end this without civilian bloodshed.

Why isn't Israel asking its allies in the west to apply pressure on the Qatari government to hand them over?

Why isn't Israel using its Facial recognition software to hunt down Hamas operatives and leave the civilians?

Quick question, the video shows the whole of Gaza lit up, Gaza didn't have any power at the time of the attack, an old video maybe?

Unsure. However the videos that Israel are using as proof also have some lights in the streets.

@DownNative ok thank you for the links

Whats your thoughts about vetoing humanitarian pause to allow aid ? Do you think this quest to defeat all terrorists justify collective punishment of mainly children?
