It's worried about the rise of anti-semitism. Do you think the same thing will happen here?

The answer to this question is easy.

Do you consider Israel a civilised state? Do you want to add to the siege to the list of war crimes that the International Court in Hague had already been asked to consider. Do you want it to go down in history that Israel was it self responsible for genocide?

The accepted definition of genocide includes:

(b) Causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group;
(c) Deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part

The funding for the weapons will not have come from ordinary citizens- the average salary is about $7,000- that doesn’t buy many weapons, and half the population is made up of kids. The funding will come from others in the Middle East and further afield - who are likely to respond to recent events by further opening up their coffers.

The lack of effective leadership in Israel have undoubtedly affected the ability to move forward to a 2 state solution- but Israel has firstly not showed good faith in the expansion of settlements (60 % of the West Bank is under Israeli control) but also has not been willing to compromise and meet Palestinian demands - eg right of return of Palestinian refugees stuck in refugee camps.

As for the poster who said there was no apartheid @Towerofsong - please read the following

I notice in that word salad of a post that you completely omitted to acknowledge Hamas have never ever entered peace talks.
Their only agenda is to kill every Jew. It’s in their charter.

Israel was in peace talks at the time of the atrocity. They have shown willing to compromise. Hamas and by extension Gaza never have.

Oh give over.
You must know how Israel have targeted Palestinian civilians for decades including school children. I'm so sick of the ignorance on here.

No they haven't routinely targetted citizens - & when did they raid gaza & rape & torture women in their homes & at a festival & kidnap babies to use as human shields? Both sides are guilty of atrocities in conflict situations. The difference is it is Hamas's modus operandi to embed themselves in hospitals & civilian areas to act as human sheilds. Israel also gives warnings. Hamas does not. Hamas's stated aim is to destroy israel & kill Jews, backed by Iran whose stated aim is the same.

gerispringer · 15/10/2023 07:23

No to supporting terrorism on either side. Hamas wants to deny Israel the right to exist . After centuries of pogroms the Jewish people have a right to a homeland. The British have played a part in this don’t forget. And how does attacking Jewish homes and businesses in London or Paris help the people of Gaza?

Please read my thread more carefully - just because you don’t like it’s contents doesn’t make it word salad. Makes for uncomfortable reading?

You will see that I have said that Palestinians have been failed by lack of effective leaders.

As for the peace talks with US and Saudi Arabia - from what I read the discussions were primarily about normalisation of the relationship with Saudi Arabia and Israel. Israel’s actions have led to a pause in these talks.

They could start by having a proper government representing them? Not a terrorist organisation operating out of Iran maybe?

If you are genuinely looking for ways to improve the lives of the people of Gaza then start there, because for the last 17 years they have had to fend for themselves as Hamas choose to spend aid on rocket launchers instead of medicine and vital infrastructure.

I can't even begin to argue with your ignorance. It's exhausting.

And your lies are just crazy. And repetitive.

Israel needs to stop committing war crimes, stop bombing civilian populations, stop starving people and cutting off the water supplies that they control in their entirety while bleating about Hamas.

When the monster that is the Israeli regime becomes civilized maybe there can be peace.

Here is a Palestinian Jew talking about what needs to happen. Maybe you will listen to him.

Edited

So you acknowledge one of the main reasons why there has been no peace agreement to date is because Hamas and by extension Gaza refuse to engage?

FairylightsandHygge · 15/10/2023 07:37

Both the United Nations, Amnesty International and other organisations have categorically said that Israel is an Apartheid state.

You can’t begin to argue because it is true. The people of Gaza are being failed in every single way by Hamas.

Bullshit

Lastchancechica · 15/10/2023 07:39

It was a UN resolution that founded new Israel in 1948. You are really posting massive inaccuracies. Much of Israel and Palestine are refugees.

FairylightsandHygge · 15/10/2023 07:44

As are your numerous posts. Asking stupid questions. Go and do some reading and find out how Gaza has been occupied.

And the people of Gaza are being massacred by Israel, and not for the first time.

But I am sure you will find a way to blame the Palestinians for being bombed to destruction. Your previous posts smack of total ignorance.

Ratsoffasinkingsauage · 15/10/2023 07:50

I used to believe that you could be pro-Palestine and not anti-Semetic but the last few days have persuaded me otherwise.

As soon as those attacks happened there were people flooding on to Mumsnet to say if hadn’t happened. And if it did happened then the footage we were seeing was fake. Or actually this is Israel’s fault and they should just accept it and not retaliate. Actually wait, they did this to themselves and they are the worst evil and Hamas did the right thing.

It is still going on- all over Mumsnet. The horrific DARVO because people are so desperate to not examine what they believe or question what they’ve read.

I don’t think Gaza should be destroyed because of what Hamas did. But I do think that this incident has lifted the veil on the intense anti-semetism that exists in our society. If it was any other group of people being spat on in the streets or having posters ripped down or being taunted by activists about dead relatives then we’d all be up in arms.

It isn’t nice to feel like a bigot. But that is exactly what many people are showing themselves to be. And it is actually hugely damaging to the Palestinian cause and the entire situation.

Happyvalleyfan · 15/10/2023 07:50

I hope the Israeli hostages are returned safely.
The attack by Hamas was horrific and has caused Israelis a lot of pain.
I’m going to leave this thread now.

EasterIssland · 15/10/2023 07:58

Are you surprised that a former leader of hamas supports what hamas did last week? Who would have thought that 🤦🏻‍♀️

I hope too that the lives of those in Gaza are cared for and preserved.
I hope they have a government that actually represents and cares for them.

I pray that their much of the disputed land is returned and peace will return to both countries. That is my hope too.

silvercurtainpoles · 15/10/2023 08:02

On dear, another thread where people who sadly know absolutely nothing about the history of this conflict throw about sound bites and ill-informed armchair opinions.
Bonus points for the next person who says 'Genocide, open-air prison or apartheid state'. Confused

For the record, no, I don't wish to see protests banned but I do wish to see protests like the one in London yesterday banned. People were shouting 'back to 1940' and making references to the Holocaust and other anti-Semitic slurs. There should be no place in a civil society for that, ever.

This would be true if it was white supremacists or any other racist organisation making revolting remarks about another ethnicity.

And please don't say, 'well Israel did X, Y or Z' when you don't hold other countries to the same standard. Racism is vile and we should have zero tolerance for it, wherever it presents itself. If you think otherwise or secretly believe the Israelis deserve it, then you sadly are part of the problem.
