I quite like Liz Truss. She's proper nuts, in a 'every time she speaks a tory seat dies' kind of way. Keep speaking Liz, the lettuce ain't all that!

Yes, I think she should be given all the airtime she needs.

Peter Bone MP (CON, Wellingborough) is set to recieve a 6-week suspension from the House of Commons for 'varied acts of bullying and one act of sexual misconduct'.

This will trigger a recall petition within the constituency.

This is after a ruling by Independent Expert Panel

If Standards Committee agrees with findings he could face a recall petition and we’ll be looking at another by-election

From the report.

This is a serious case of misconduct. […] The bullying involved violence, shouting and swearing, mocking, belittling and humiliating behaviour, and ostracism. […]
This wilful pattern of bullying also included an unwanted incident of sexual misconduct, when the complainant was trapped in a room with the respondent in a hotel in Madrid, […]. This was a deliberate and conscious abuse of power using a sexual mechanism: indecent exposure.

Awful.

Piggywaspushed · 16/10/2023 11:28

He's a horrible man.

Notonthestairs · 16/10/2023 11:36

His behaviour was first reported in 2015 but the complaints procedures seems to have left the complainant hanging.
And he was promoted to Deputy Leader of the House by Johnson AFTER the complaint was lodged.

Piggywaspushed · 16/10/2023 11:37

Got confirmation of DS's proxy vote at last.

I wonder how many mid Beds university students have done this.

It's an area with no university students of its own and quite a big 'brain drain' during term time.

A straw poll of my year 13s last week had very few of them old enough to vote yet and those who were were apparently disinclined to vote. They know Festus locally but find him rather fake; those who knew anything else of the candidates know the local councillor and seemed to be most drawn to the Labour candidate in terms of personality and appeal.

DuncinToffee · 16/10/2023 11:39

All very similar to Johnson's handling of Pincher

Well, well, well. Peter Bone was wheeled out on a regular basis to defend Johnson, who had dirt on him. It is all very grubby.

Roussette · 16/10/2023 12:05

I mean.... WTAF Shock

The Conservative MP Peter Bone repeatedly hit and verbally abused a member of his staff, often asked him for massages and on one occasion put his bare genitals in the other man’s face, according to a damning report by a Commons regulator.

IClaudine · 16/10/2023 12:10

Oh, dear god. 🤮

Piggywaspushed · 16/10/2023 12:12

The Peter Bone who has consistently voted against any equality legislation, including gay marriage?

Hypocrite.

MrTiddlesTheCat · 16/10/2023 12:13

Why isn't he going to jail?

jgw1 · 16/10/2023 12:18

Have I understood correctly that Liz Truss is going to announce her own set of budget proposals in opposition to those of the government.

Does Liz Truss know that she is still a member of the governing party? Hasn't it occured to her that she should perhaps resign her membership first?

Is the Prime Minister so weak that he is going to allow an opposition budget from within his own backbenchers?

Efacsen · 16/10/2023 12:18

And tried to sabotage making 'up-skirting' an offence?

LittleBowSheep · 16/10/2023 12:19

I am delighted to read about the downfall of Peter Bone. I'm so happy that I think I will celebrate 🎉

I used to work in his constituency and unfortunately, due to the nature of my job, I used to have to deal with a lot of correspondence from his office. He is most definitely one of the most odious, despicable and nauseating people that I have ever met.

Best news I've heard in a long time.

DuncinToffee · 16/10/2023 13:15

This is quite a damning thread on how the party handled the complaint

https://x.com/Direthoughts/status/1713858923009126577?s=20

There are a lot of shocking details in the report on Bone's conduct. There is also a rather damning section on failure of the Conservatives processes: a complaint about Bone's conduct was first made to Cameron in Dec '15, then again to May in Nov '17.

I feel a letter to my MP coming on. He was mortified that the Commons did not have the same sort of procedure for dealing with these sort of matters as regular workplaces when the Paterson thing occurred. I wonder if he is still of the same opinion, and what he has done during the intervening 18months to change that.

Notonthestairs · 16/10/2023 14:16

Good grief. Bone argued that exposure (of his genitals) didnt necessarily constitute sexual conduct. He booked a room with two beds for a work trip with a junior colleague rather than 2 single rooms.

Should have been dealt with years ago.
Bad enough that Cameron and May turned a blind eye but Johnson and Truss promoted him!

pointythings · 16/10/2023 14:25

I'm old enough to remember the tide of sleaze in the runup to 1997. This lot are an order of magnitude of worse.

countrygirl99 · 16/10/2023 14:27

Was listening to an interview with Norman Fowler on Saturday. It just underlined what a bunch of 2nd raters make up the current government.

newnamethanks · 16/10/2023 14:31

Bone eh? Words aren't sufficient to describe my schadenfreude. Move up, make way for some of these 🍾🍾🍾and one for luck 🍺cheers Keir, be seeing you soon in Number 10.

Christ. What a creep.

TooBigForMyBoots · 16/10/2023 14:48

He had both his wife and mistress on the party payroll at one point. Now this.

What a sleazy fucker!
