Does anyone else feel sad when TV series finish?

I love watching really long boxsets but there are the odd few that I can't wait to watch and see what happens but equally I really miss watching them once they are finished.

I felt really sad when How I Met Your Mother finished, i binged that recently, Barney was probably one of my favourite ever tv characters, I have felt the same about quite a few others. I think it's mainly when I binge them though rather than watch them over a long period of time.

Has anyone else watched others they feel like that about?

Top boy. I'm still not over it.

Firefly Lane. I was recommended this for ages by multiple friends but always swerved it as wasn't sure it was my thing. Watched it, LOVED it, sobbed like a baby during it and was lost when it was over!

@BBno4 I just finished this last week, absolutely bloody hilarious! I couldn't find anything online re a season 4?

Pretty much every series we watch, i dread the last couple p of episodes . I was sad about Parks and Rec and US Office but I was bereft after The Big Bang Theory ended.

I will be very sad in 6 weeks time when Ghosts finishes.😞

Blimey I'm going to binge it all today! How can you wait 6 weeks?!

I've never heard of Firefly Lane, but I was certainly annoyed and baffled by there only being one series of Firefly!

Supernatural, I cried when Dean was killed 😢

I’ve recently binged Manifest and felt the same way. I’ve been desperate to find something else but can’t get into anything (tried Lost but couldn’t stick it out).

I felt sad after finishing Sons of Anarchy too, not helped by the fact that the last 2 seasons were just so depressing.

Gothambutnotahamster · 06/10/2023 16:10

Did Manifest finish well? Lost put me off getting into it, but if you recommend its worth watching, then i'll give it a go!

toadasoda · 06/10/2023 16:12

Me too OP! I feel a real sense of loss for a little while and go looking for the next thing.

I loved How I met your mother. Apart from being hilarious, I loved the nostalgia and wisdom in it. Sometimes in life I find myself thinking, Ted did say this would happen as we got older... DH and I loved this series, we have the same circle of friends and got together as Uni - we were the Lily and Marshall of our friends, we even have the same jobs! Every stage they were at seemed to mirror my life, buying the first home, deciding where to live, trying for a baby, being the only ones with a baby etc etc. I am almost afraid to watch it again as I am much older now and it might make me sad.

Didn't like Robin though!!! I always found everyone's obsession with her hard to take.

The show does drag a little bit I really enjoyed the ending, compared to similar shows.

I’ve now read the full plot to Lost (impatient but still curious) and I definitely prefer the Manifest plot/ending.

When watching HIMYM I definitely wished I had friendship groups like that, I have some school friends still but my closest friends are those since having kids, I didn't go to Uni so didn't make friends at that age, it's different with colleagues I think. I wasn't keen on Robin either but did feel really sad about the ending for her and Barney. I just loved Barney, the stuff he said was so funny and outrageous! I actually can't wait for enough time to pass to be able to watch it again haha!

I used to feel the same with book series, I don't read as much now as at a laptop all day so my eyes are so tired at night!

Really miss Doc Martin.

mrmagpie · 06/10/2023 16:38

I was really sad at the end of Dead to me, even though the characters are quite unpleasant!

Also superstore, I felt that could have continued. And Detectorists, I just loved the characters so much.

I've tried Ghosts and just couldn't get into it, I watched the first few episodes and couldn't see how there could be much of a storyline, does it get better?

I got a 'Bro Code' book for DH as a stocking filler one year. So bloody stupid and funny. I wonder if this cancel culture continues Barney could be on the chopping block, he did push the boundaries a lot. Neil Patrick Harris is brilliant though, an absolute comic talent.

Every time I watch the end of Friends I watch the first episode straight away just to have them all back again!

I was disappointed the last series of Last Tango in Halifax was the last, apparently. It felt unfinished and I was waiting for a new series.

Same here. I loved it so much!

Gothambutnotahamster · 06/10/2023 17:19

Thanks @PureBlackVoid - will give it a go now.

Homeland (though the ending was spot on), Detectorists and Shakespeare and Hathaway which got me through a difficult winter and probably won't be coming back.

This was ages ago, but I didn't want Babylon 5 to end.

Or Criminal Minds. That was a great cast even with the changes.
