Anyone else get really excited at this time of year?

Always been the same for me since I was a little kid.

All of the autumn and Halloween stuff in the shops, the lovely knitwear coming out and the big coats. Even the Christmas stuff in the shops, and I know it's way too early but I was looking at the advent calendars today.

The weather isn't too bad yet so perfect for walking. Looking forward to our little traditions, always watch a spooky series around Halloween, the circus, carving pumpkins, then ice skating, Christmas markets. Not to mention going to a display for fireworks.

I'm not a Summer hater at all but this time of year makes me giddy with excitement.

Yes! I'm exactly the same. There's no time of year I love as much as autumn.

VenusClapTrap · 05/10/2023 15:01

No, it makes me feel slightly depressed. Getting colder, darker, flowers tailing off, leaves falling. Winter is on its way and it’s months till spring. I don’t like it at all.

SallyWD · 05/10/2023 15:04

I do get excited but after Christmas the novelty has worn off and I yearn for summer!

Me, Me, Me! Love Summer but big Love for all the fun stuff this time of year!!

Excited101 · 05/10/2023 15:05

I agree, autumn is the best!

VeridicalVagabond · 05/10/2023 15:07

Yes absolutely, I love it so much. We're always a lot busier between October and January, lots of birthdays plus Halloween, bonfire night, Christmas of course.

I love autumn, I love the weather, I love how cosy everything feels. I even love the darker evenings (though perhaps not so much the mornings!), the anticipation of all the fun things we'll be doing over the next few months, getting to pull all my snuggly jumpers out of storage. I just adore it.

LivingForRedWine · 05/10/2023 15:11

I absolutely love this time of year! Autumn has always been my favourite season I love Halloween, bonfire night, Christmas and all things cosy. It just makes me so happy!

TheWhalrus · 05/10/2023 15:27

Can't say i'm especially excited. Early summer is my favourite time of year. I'm not looking forward to several months of short, dark days and colder weather.

Toddlerteaplease · 05/10/2023 15:27

Nope I hate it, as winter is round the corner!

Toddlerteaplease · 05/10/2023 15:28

I much prefer spring. With the nights getting longer and the blossom.

Badbadbunny · 05/10/2023 15:30

No hate it. I get excited in Spring when there are newly born lambs in the fields, plants and flowers are starting to bud, daffodils and tulips are in full bloom, weather is getting better, days are longer and brighter. Autumn and Winter are horrible months. I wish I could hibernate and just wake up in March!

Thecomfortador · 05/10/2023 15:36

Yes, for me it starts with the 'back to school' feeling (I left a quarter of a century ago lol) and the cooler weather, darker evenings, lovely colours on the trees, Strictly on the telly. I'm not bothered about Halloween so much but it's a landmark in the run up to Christmas. The weeks after new year are a bit of a cold, dark drag but I can cope with that.

Vettrianofan · 05/10/2023 15:39

Yes, love getting curtains drawn really early when it gets dark around 6pm. Jammies on around 5pm sometimes. Can't wait!

Charles11 · 05/10/2023 15:46

I don't get especially excited but I love that we live somewhere where seasons change and can embrace them.

So for this season, I start to look at tv we can watch and books to read. Especially spooky stuff because I love it anyway.
I start looking at recipes for soups and puddings.

I'm booking some events for the family and I usually book a spa day (mn cliche, me) in January with some friends. There are loads of offers and it's nice to have a post Xmas catch up.

We go out for walks lots anyway. In the summer, it's often after dinner in the evenings and we might get ice cream or cold drinks. in winter it's on the weekends only and then go for brunch or take hot chocolate and coffee.

I start to give the house a good declutter and clean. If we're staying in more, I'd like the place to be as relaxing and cosy as possible. Get some candles and throws on the sofas and just cosy up the place.

Bluevelvetsofa · 05/10/2023 16:01

Spring and early summer is the best time. The green is fresh and vibrant, the gardens and outdoor spaces are bursting into life and there’s the promise of long days and evenings and warmth.

At this time of year, I just look forward to next spring.

ZeroFucksGivenToday · 05/10/2023 16:06

Yes yes yes. Cosy PJs, log burner on. Halloween to look forward to, plus away at Oct half term with my DD. Then firework night, Christmas stuff at school, and panto, light trails, gorgeous food etc.

weirdly I can feel a bit meh by December though.

Tangled123 · 05/10/2023 16:09

No, October and November are my least favourite months of the year. I hate cold, short, dark, wet, and windy days. December sucks too but at least I get an week off work. I would be happy with May/June weather all year round.

megletthesecond · 05/10/2023 16:11

No. Counting the weeks until March when the brighter days return. The older I get the more I dislike winter, the stress of illness and worry about weather damage to the house.

PinkyDinkyDoodle · 05/10/2023 16:18

I love all the seasons in their infinite variety, but I particularly love Autumn. That sense of the nights drawing in, and the smell of decay.

I have already got the thermals out of storage and checked that the winter clothes fit. And I have enough ginger wine to last me through the long evenings.

Borgoff · 05/10/2023 16:31

I love it.

And I am so disappointed that it is still really warm (at least where I live). Not cold enough for cosy jumpers and boots yet!

FionnulaTheCooler · 05/10/2023 16:36

Yes, I love autumn and the cosy feeling of the nights drawing in. Halloween, fireworks, the run up to Christmas. The only thing I'm dreading is having to de-ice the car again in the mornings.

Squirrelsnut · 05/10/2023 16:41

I love Autumn's beauty but I feel a bit anxious about the dark, dark months ahead. I get up very early anyway and winter can feel like endless gloom. But I would far rather have distinct seasons than not.

mintich · 05/10/2023 16:46

Definitely!! So I'm disappointed that it's not colder by now!

You and me both.

DD is grown up and lives over 100 miles away so we don't "do" Halloween and there is no build up to Christmas for us. I quite like watching fireworks, but am aware that they don't need to be as loud as they are.

I have a very small and very scattered family so Christmas is always very quiet with just the three of us.

I hate the long dark nights and hate the cold, scraping frost off the car and commuting in the dark and driving rain.

I don't get the love for thick woolly jumpers and big coats. I prefer to feel unconstrained in light summer clothes in 24 degree warmth and not have to spend 10 minutes getting kitted up every time I want to leave the house.

AskNotForWhomTheBellCurves · 05/10/2023 17:02

In theory I love the idea of cold, crisp blue sky, crunchy leaves, bonfire smoke and the rest, but the reality often seems to be more like persistent grey rain and underfoot sludge. I always expected I'd miss the seasons if I ever moved abroad, but living in a place where the two seasons are 'hot' and 'slightly less hot', I actually spend October/November/December enjoying the bright days and the ability to sit outside in a dress! I feel lucky to have experienced British autumn growing up, but I'm not in any hurry to go back to it.
