Ive just had to switch Jimmy Fallon off because she talks like shes from the royal family. Did she talk like that when she was Ginger Spice from Watford? Do any of her mates pull her up on it I wonder?

I think she has always spoken like that.

BarbieKew · 04/10/2023 23:25

She’s definitely elongating her vowels and hamming up the yahs, but the Watford girl is still in there. I’d take the piss a bit.

EachandEveryone · 04/10/2023 23:26

She looks amazing

She reinvented herself to become suitable for her current husband who cheated on his pregnant wife with her

Moveoverdarlin · 04/10/2023 23:29

She’s travelled the world and now mixes in higher echelons of society, her voice is bound to have changed a bit. Posh’s has too and Mel C is nowhere near as scouse as she was in the early days. My accent has become less regional after uni, working in London, marrying someone from a different part of the UK. It’s not plummy, but it’s different to when I was 22.

snickersandmarsandbounty · 04/10/2023 23:30

All in white just like God 😂

Ooh didn't know that

Cryingbutstilltrying · 04/10/2023 23:33

The white outfits lol 🤣🤣🤣
DH cycles past her country pile most days and dreams of splashing her.

You would never guess where DH and I grew up, based on how we talk. Geri mixes with people who talk differently. I don’t judge her for her accent as that’s what she will know now.

Justleaveitblankthen · 04/10/2023 23:43

She's spoken about her mum getting her elocution lessons when she was young.

Living very close to Liverpool, it always amuses me to hear Mel C speak because-to me-it sounds as though she tries hard to suppress any Scouse vowels that may sneak through. It sounds unnatural.

The Beatles all had a naturally 'soft Scouse' accent that they never lost, even though they have lived elsewhere for longer than they ever did in the city.

Lovingitallnow · 04/10/2023 23:45

She is on mumsnet and dropped the h in her haitches.

Same with Gillian Keegan and Esther McVey - they both do that "posh" Scouse accent which sounds so unnatural.

I can't put my finger on it but she sounds very different in this interview.... and I don't know... that accent feels a bit 'put on'?

AlexaCanYouHearMe · 04/10/2023 23:55

It does feel a bit 'put on' and a bit fake posho, but Geri has always sounded a bit like this. But Billie Piper when she was in the Fox family went all plummy in her accent. Way worse than Geri. Sounded ridiculous. 😆

EachandEveryone · 04/10/2023 23:57

I dont know Geri sounded like she was in Notting Hill or any of those films do you think it was exaggerated for the American Audience. I couldn't listen I had to switch off.

Billy Piper was quite plummy in 'I Hate Suzie'

Not in Dr Who though.

RosaKim · 05/10/2023 00:17

I think she still sounds like her but is putting on the posher version of her if that makes sense. I do it sometimes, depends on who I am talking to - usually at work when I want to sound more professional I guess.

Blinky21 · 05/10/2023 00:36

Only since she became a Tory

MariePaperRoses · 05/10/2023 00:46

Her words - 'mixed breed, mongrel dog'!

It sounds fake and put on, which it is. How embarrassing for her with old footage still around.

I think it's a shame people thinking they need to change their accent to fit in.

kittensinthekitchen · 05/10/2023 01:04

Isn't it probably just the equivalent of putting on a 'phone voice' when speaking to someone a little more formally?

It's annoying to Americans too, I notice and can't stand it either!

RosaKim · 05/10/2023 02:40

Just watched it and some older footage and I revise my opinion - she's definitely changed her accent to be plummy.

👏👏👏

I can't remember how she sounded originally but her appearance has definitely changed to become more classic (no more Union Jack dresses). Christian Horner was privately educated and he has a more neutral voice. It might not even be particularly conscious. Lots of people adapt their tone of voice slightly depending on the company.

JeremyIsntAllBadAtAll · 05/10/2023 04:33

Haven’t heard her recently.
The white clothes are desperate though.
Used to be a thing with older actresses too.
It looks like some kind of mental health issue for her, I’ve started to feel a bit sorry for her, when she’s photographed.
