What’s the drama in your local FB site?

Anticipation Popcorn GIF

Mine’s is that somebody hung their washing in front of their neighbour’s window (colony flats), neighbour went into the garden and pushed it to the corner of the line and left a (unnecessarily) curt note, and now the whole thing is being played out via our local share site.
I am now over invested in this dispute between two people I will never meet, over a problem of vanishing significance.

We also have loads of rages against house builders they are building on our field that grows fucking food that we buy (literally sold in the co-op down the road) but apparently we NEED houses except we really don't we have oversubscribed schools dangerous roads full to the brim doctors no hospital they claim we have homeless people here who need housing these are not social houses they are expensive boxes no-one local will be able to afford and we have three homeless people here regularly the rest drop in once or twice a month for a holiday and none of them want a home here anyway they have been OFFERED a home and refused so why are we building houses? No-one wants to LIVE HERE 😂

N27 · 01/10/2023 12:55

Ours is all about “outsiders” to the village.

unknown male walked a dog down x street earlier…keep an eye out. Obviously just can’t be an innocent guy walking a dog.

God forbid any black cars appear being driven by males under 20, the page goes nuts!!

Rosiem2808 · 01/10/2023 12:56

On this site at the moment are adverts for the great ASDA giveaway which is apparently £100. It is a scam. Why is it still allowed to run on and on despite people complaining about it?

Also we are treated to clips of animals being treated badly. When I complain they tell me it is all within guidelines and tell me to block the person doing it.

What is going on I do not know, but what I do know is it boils my piss and I hated writing that

WhileMyDishwasherGentlyWeeps · 01/10/2023 12:58

Lost cats. Always lost cats.

With those and the endless stream of ‘can anyone recommend a plumber/builder/garage?’, and the helicopter queries, it’s very dreary. We also have an ambitious local councillor who bogs up the pages with his constant ‘update’ posts, which are thinly veiled boasts about what a great and effective friend he is to the locality.

I don’t bother with the local FB group much anymore.

Theimpossiblegirl · 01/10/2023 12:58

Someone had fireworks.
Everyone is fuming!!!

I actually do agree that they should be for organised displays only but I'm not getting involved, it was a memorial and they only lasted a few minutes.

Minglemangle007 · 01/10/2023 12:58

Shoplifters
Parcels getting nicked off doorsteps
Whats that ambulance/fire engine/helicopter doing
And possibly my favourite of all time....the usual of a "poor starving cat" in my garden complete with picture of fat, smug cat with not only a collar but a flipping air tag! It has been pointed out that not only is this a well loved pet, but obviously likes to wander off, hence the air tag!

Eddyraisins · 01/10/2023 12:59

Youths egging a couple of houses.

Beargrumps22 · 01/10/2023 12:59

moaning about the latest road closure for resurfacing/repairs
lost cats/dogs/ferrets
odd folk wandering round or driving round in vans beware of them apparently!
dog poo
the latest scam which seems to be someone advertising an online craft fayre you paid money to advertise on but it turns out no such thing and one very rich person who did the scam

AccidentallyFabulous · 01/10/2023 13:00

Ours is that the events from 'welcome week' at the university are clearly audible until they finish at one in the morning varying from:

  • my floor is shaking (over the road)
  • I can hear it with all my windows and doors shut but my massive TV drowns it out (about 1/4 of a mile away)
  • we can hear it from inside the house (one mile away)
  • we can hear it from the garden but not inside (SEVEN MILES AWAY!!!)

These interspersed with people who live nearer but can't hear it because topography/wind direction.

Florabundance · 01/10/2023 13:02

I live in a small village in Surrey where little of any note ever happen so what others would regard as trivia constitutes drama here, typical, (and regular) examples being:

Various missing cats (usually the same culprits).

Blurry picture of an unknown individual with a warning to "watch out for" (any strangers observed round here cause concern, if they're wearing a hoody then Surrey Police are 'tagged' and there are numerous comments about people not feeling safe in their own homes

Complaints about people parking outside other peoples houses in a particular road here (it's a public road so it's perfectly legal).

Deliveries that continually end up at the wrong address for no apparent reason (mainly Evri) maybe because they assume in a small village we all know each other anyway.

Potholes - understandably... they're everywhere and because they're only ever 'bodged up' they're constantly reappearing.

HoHoHoliday · 01/10/2023 13:03

@BriceNobeslovesMurielHeslop "One poor lady tried to share a surfeit of food, including some curry she had made that evening. Cue an increasingly unhinged poster taking the piss"

That makes me sad! The poor lady trying to be community spirited and sharing her surplus food. I'd have been over there in a flash for some freshly made curry!

I live on a street with multiple blocks of flats so our group is always full of:
Which flat is playing that loud music?
Has anyone else got no water/power?
Can whoever made a mess in the lift please clear it up.
And a seasonal bonus - in the days after Christmas there will be loads of photos of communal hallways full of pine needles "when you take your Christmas tree out please sweep up the needles".

whatwasIgoingtosay · 01/10/2023 13:08

First post when I checked: I'm very sad to report that if your 'Tiddles' has gone missing overnight he or she may well have given up all 9 lives to the A6 this morning. The cat in question was black and white and was in the centre of the west bound carriageway between the two junctions. On my return leg there wasn't a whole lot left that was recognisable due to being run over multiple times.
Next post: Hello can anyone help please, I have a small upright fridge and sadly it will not fit in my car hence does snyone know how I can get rid of it please?
Reply: If you run over it at 60mph it'll fit in your car

FrostieBoabby · 01/10/2023 13:09

I currently live in a village where most people are 10th generation and everyone is related to each other. I'll never fit in or be accepted, maybe in 1000 years we won't be incomers....The locals have nothing proper to complain about but that doesn't stop them......

"Does anyone recognise this cat?" which looks well fed and is just wandering in it's own neighbourhood. Our locals love nothing better than 'rescuing' kidnapping all the cats and taking them to the rescue centre 20 miles away and making sure they post the good deed all over SM.

Every farmers market day - "Who owns this car, if it's not moved by 10am it's getting towed". Unless you are a local you won't know about not parking in the car park on market day.....I fear tourists may not get out alive.

The do-gooder Community types and their litter picking achievements with their full bin bags and piles of dog shit bags.

Oh, and of course the "dodgy" looking people that caused a huge amount of suspicion on doorbell cameras, especially the recent couple who were not only American "bible bashers" but shock, they weren't white.....many pearls were clutched.

I can't wait to move away!

Needmorelego · 01/10/2023 12:47

@FacebookGroupDrama hey you know you are getting an extra day for the fair this year?
#controversial

Yes! Though never quite the same as 'back in the day' when we used to neck Diamond White at the Mill and then go on the sticky fly near NatwWest

Goodwitch9 · 01/10/2023 13:10

We currently have posts about:
nitrous oxide canisters
money laundering coffee shops
foul smelling butchers
local restaurant shutting down
travellers in Asda car park
shoplifters
cats lost/found
stolen cars
LTNs
burglar alarm going off
All very depressing!

FrostieBoabby · 01/10/2023 13:13

Oh and my favourite. Same people:-

Complaining about potholes then complaining about a road closure to repair the potholes.....

Florabundance · 01/10/2023 13:18

@Metatarse....

hi, just moved in. Anyone got a sofa, shelves and bedside cabinet they could give me? Must deliver, I don't drive.

There's a 'local community' FB page for the small town down the road from where I live, posts like this appear from one particular individual who seems intent of furnishing her entire house for free, even appealing for a 'free kitten' for her niece's birthday.

Blanketpolicy · 01/10/2023 13:30

Factors - Comparing each development within the estate and how much their factors cost and anger at the council not adopting the estate 25 years after it was built. Some amateur digging into clauses in factor contracts and service they provide and attempting to start a revolt.

Planning Permission - Complaints about planning permission being granted in the green area around the estate and the next meeting about the consultation. A good mix of angry people whose views will be ruined and the more pragmatic that say well our houses are on a bit that used to be green and ruined our neighbouring estates views!

Complaints about the FB page dictator moderator who only allows certain posts onto the pages and there can be a several hours delay before they are approved, or turns off commenting or deletes posts and how another uncensored site should just be created for the estate (and no one ever does).

SomethingBlues · 01/10/2023 13:33

Most recent drama was someone getting a BJ while driving through the village… IN THEIR TRACTOR 😂😂

We get regular posts with people saying they have had a clear out does anyone want these items for free before they dispose of - can be anything from kids today, unwanted household items, books etc some nice stuff sometimes.

There has been complaints recently that there are lots of members on "our" FB page who live in a neighbouring deprived area don't live in the estate and "steal" these items before "our" residents get a chance to decide if they want them or not 🤦‍♀️

Rewindthefilm · 01/10/2023 13:43

Today it’s how the new self-checkouts tills in Aldi are stealing people’s jobs, even though a couple of employees in the group are saying that actually it gives them more time to restock and no-one is losing their jobs.

Spacie · 01/10/2023 13:44

Badgers, blocked footpaths and people complaining that the particular route their child has decided to use to walk to school isn't safe when the council has spent thousands on new pavements and lighting on other (no longer) routes.

cliffdiver · 01/10/2023 13:54

Pretty much every resident in a road near one of the local schools now park their cars off driveways to take up all the spaces. Meaning there are no spaces left for school drop off parking.

ShagratandGorbag4ever · 01/10/2023 13:54

Complaints from people who think roads exist for their children to play in rather than as a means of getting from A to B.

Esgaroth · 01/10/2023 14:01

We have scandalous cat and bird drama every summer.

There is a woman who believes that cats in her garden make the birds tweet louder in the mornings which wakes her up and for this reason apparently she hates cats.

She goes round demanding her neighbours keep their cats indoors and if she sees cats she will lure them into her garage and shut them in for days to punish them / their owners. Once she took a cat into her car and drove it out of town and dumped it (miraculously it was found).

She's been reported to the police multiple times but she fully believes her cruel actions are justified because she told everyone their cats weren't allowed out. A surprising number of people defend her, despite the fact that she's actually torturing animals.
