What’s the drama in your local FB site?

Anticipation Popcorn GIF

Mine’s is that somebody hung their washing in front of their neighbour’s window (colony flats), neighbour went into the garden and pushed it to the corner of the line and left a (unnecessarily) curt note, and now the whole thing is being played out via our local share site.
I am now over invested in this dispute between two people I will never meet, over a problem of vanishing significance.

"Why is the helicopter out"
🚁

We get that ALL the time.

Usually followed by "which one"

We have coastguard, air ambulance and naval helicopters near us.

Once it's established which one someone always posts the obvious "why would we know" 🤣

YouveGotAFastCar · 01/10/2023 11:52

Swans. Always the swans.

Where they are, how they're doing, if they've still got all their cygnets.

Mum2aTeen · 01/10/2023 11:53

There's not much at the moment it just seems like a snake spotting page now or magpie/plover swooping areas.
And lots of asking for people to mow their lawns look after animals that sort of thing.

YetMoreNewBeginnings · 01/10/2023 11:53

Ours is “can anyone hear that alarm?“ x40

All posted at 3am when a massive alarm was going off. However the admin of the page has it set so that she, and only she (won’t add anyone else) has to approve every single post so they weren’t approved until 9am this morning.

The posts are now discussing the uselessness of the page now and the admin is furiously defending the fact that “she has a life and can’t be expected to provide her FREE service 24/7” whilst steadfastly ignoring every single offer of being an admin to help out from people.

CountessKathleen · 01/10/2023 11:54

I didn’t think anyone much used FB any more. Ours happens on a WhatsApp residents’ group, which is generally perfectly reasonable (lost pets, reminders about water supply disruption, requests for local babysitters), though apparently before we moved here in 2020, there was a breakaway WhatsApp due to the fact that people kept posting their own bad poetry to the main group.

I do know a small island without 20 households but which has two different, separate residents’ WhatsApp groups, which I suppose tells you something about the population 😀…

menopausalmare · 01/10/2023 11:54

The usual. Roadworks and potholes, plus antisocial behaviour.

TastyLikeARaindrop · 01/10/2023 11:55

Usually very boring. Anything remotely exciting gets removed by admin.

Is this your cat?

Can anyone do lashes today?

Do we still need to book a slot for the tip?

Hamsterfluff · 01/10/2023 11:58

I'm on a council estate so mine is very entertaining! Stolen mopeds, vandalism, asbo behaviour, who's cat is this? What are all those police and ambulances for? Don't buy anything off xxxx she's a scammer, hair, nails, lashes, gardening, etc. Then, amidst all the chaos, there is a lady that posts a photo of the sunrise and sunset from her window every single day. No one ever commented on them until she missed a day and everyone suddenly got worried and wanted to know where the sunset lady was and if she was ok! She's back to posting now and all is right in the world.

MyBrainIsPurple · 01/10/2023 11:59

Pretty quiet where I am.
Someone said that it was very warm today and that they had their fan on still.
Sparked a few,
'its too cold I've had my heating on already'
'It's like 21c, that's not cold'
'heating on already? No wonder the planets DYING!'

Etc.

XpelairHamPortal · 01/10/2023 11:59

This from the OP made me smile. I often think that myself in relation to the time I spend on Mumsnet Grin

On our local FB group every other post is "this cat's been in my garden, it's lost" (no, it's just doing what cats do and going for a mooch round the neighbourhood). The cat posts are interspersed with "can someone please do something about the state of the footpath / park / playground" type posts, which might be helpful if they were directed to the council website rather than a bunch of randoms on the internet...

Natsku · 01/10/2023 11:59

None, mine is so pure, its full of posts thanking [random person] for something or praising some local service. For instance today there was a post saying (rough translation) "today I had to take a taxi, a young Syrian man drove the taxi and he was pleasant and proper and the trip went well and smoothly. A grandmother says thank you"

The more localised local one had a bit of drama about a new family moving in but it all got deleted when it turned out the new family were nice. But mostly its dead and just comes to life at Christmas when there's a Christmas photo competition.

Devpatelslaughingeyes · 01/10/2023 12:00

Nothing much on mine, quite boring really, just people asking for recommendations or advertising services but I did see someone I used to know looking for a cleaner for 2 hours a fortnight. She was a dirty minger when I knew her, the house smelt and was absolutely filthy. So tempted to liven the page up a bit and post a warning. I wont, but it is tempting 😂

Needmorelego · 01/10/2023 12:01

@itsgettingweird it's always "The" helicopter - with a capital T.
Like there's only one in existence 😂

gotomomo · 01/10/2023 12:02

Ours is generally a mixture of heads up about nearby motorway being closed/snarled up, complaints about the pharmacies and drs, lost cats, tourist's parking in reserved residential car parks (seasonal) and lists of bands playing/quiz nights - only controversial posts are whinging about the new low income housing residents, in particular parking work/camper vans on street (covenants prevent them here) and bully type dogs (no proof that the bully dogs belong to them because as I said we get tourists!)

PinkFootstool · 01/10/2023 12:04

A million adverts for absolutely appalling "beauty" by people who should be struck off from clinical roles for the state of the lips they create, never mind the new fashion for these people to learn tattooing in 5mins, resulting in seriously ropey work on enormous pieces which any tattoo apprentice would be ashamed of.

Whose dog is this, found it in X St.

A huge ongoing saga with a local couple who are our for every penny they can get who have now pissed off the entire town by declaring the staff at the Foodbank incompetent because who can make a meal from a tin of beef stew, tins of veg and potatoes, and tins of rice pudding.... They scammed cash from a couple of people last week (same type as on here who would rathe give money just in case they really have hungry kids... ), and have now been harassing them all for more food and cash because the £60 shop someone did for them only lasted 2 days.

Absolutely 🤣🤣🤣

BriceNobeslovesMurielHeslop · 01/10/2023 12:04

Ours is a share site so we get a lot of drama around sharing.
One poor lady tried to share a surfeit of food, including some curry she had made that evening. Cue an increasingly unhinged poster taking the piss by posting pictures of almost empty tubs of ice cream and bottles of ketchup with comments like “oooh, does any body want this? BB 2007 but should be alright”. It went on for ages and was bonkers.

Also a genuine exchange -
“Wanted - couch for free. Must deliver as we don’t have transport”
”Ooh I have one that I’m looking to get rid of, I’ll bring it round for you 😊”
”Nah mate, wrong colour”
🤯

Someone spilt their spaghetti dinner on the pavement and the poster trod it through their carpets.

Tarkan · 01/10/2023 12:07

Apparently there was a seal pup on the beach this morning so dog walkers have been asked to keep them on a lead. No drama over it though.

Another post with a cat that seems lost but apparently has an owner. Someone left food and water out for it.

We haven't had a "foreigners in a van are going to steal your child/dog/belongings" post for a while. It's normally full of that, lost keys/phones and dog poo comments.

omnisnail · 01/10/2023 12:07

From a horrible FB group, useful for local news but filled with not very bright, xenophobic, etc etc etc, locals. The appearance of travellers (not the name they tend to use for them) and their caravans usually has them frothing enjoyably.

Cat frequenting local shopping centre is the latest. It has a good home, but likes to visit the shopping centre. Cue arguments about hygiene and allergies etc. Someone has even composed a piece of poetry, dedicated to the cat, that you'd be forgiven for thinking was a joke. Dreadful.

LakeTiticaca · 01/10/2023 12:09

A delivery driver taking a shit in someone's garden. The responses were hilarious 😂

Is that the week old one?

If so I live 100's of miles away but it made a whats app group I'm on. (Family not local!)

I live in a trial LTN. It is very very heated and like most things no one seems to see a middle ground and see the arguments of the the other side.

I lean one way ( which way is unimportant) but can understand the arguments for and against but some are just so polarised ( and think whoever shouts the loudest is right) that I'm completely avoiding any of the meetings surrounding it.

Me too! I wonder if it's the same one?

NigelHarmansNewWife · 01/10/2023 12:13

Ours was all about the free cash machine being out of order on a Saturday night.

Usually it's missing cats, someone's dog being out again and thieves on motorbikes scoping out vans and sheds, often with accompanying useless CCTV or doorbell footage.
