I absolutely detest my new job.

Properly hate it.

I’m not a crier, but have cried every day for about four days.

There’s too many cooks. One manager wants something done a certain way, another manger says no, they want it done a different way.

And there’s several examples of this. I really can’t please everyone.

I have one person working under me who only wants to smoke. All they want to do is go out for cigarettes. Their record is about 5 hours out of the 8 hour shift. And management are fine with it. But if something they were supposed to do isn’t done I get the blame.

I’m supposed to be doing paperwork, but I only have access to a shared PC which is in use during my quiet periods.

I stay behind most days to do stuff. I get messages on my days off about work stuff.

I’m waiting for the manager of another job to get back to me but she’s on leave for another week so I have to wait.

I have to leave in 45 minutes and go there.

There’s also very little natural light in the building which I think is making my depression worse.

My heart is full of dread. I just can’t stand it.

@Bringbackthetoddlers I did think of that but the problems at work would still be there when I got back. I'm only a couple years off from retiring so after we talked my husband said to leave.

Some things you could try:

Email both managers jointly with an outline of how you personally would like to tackle a community project you are responsible for. Say you are aware there are diverging opinions on this at management level and it would be really productive to have some formalised guidelines so you don;t end up delaying due to lack of clarity on key areas.

As for the smoker, if you have authority over them, just be honest and say - you are smoking for 3 out of the 8 working hours. I get into trouble when your workload isn't complete. Can you please cut back to one break in the morning and one in the afternoon, and use patches or gum in between?

If you don't have authority, just let it go unless you are picked up for their slackness. Then say, 3 hours a day are wasted on fag breaks. Over a week, that adds up to 15 hours - almost two days. That's why we are running behind.

They sound like good suggestions.
