Can't find a substitute for my beloved of tips.

I just shop around for the price. B&M usually have a big box for £4. From experience I'd rather spend that than buy a bunch of other boxes that I end up not drinking as I don't like them as much. I'd swap to Sainsbury's own as my mum has that but Sainsbury's is much further away than any other shops from me.

longwayoff · 26/09/2023 21:26

Still on the Earl Grey as dont drink loads of it. Coffee now the cheapest own brand I can find.

I can't downgrade my tea, I get pukka licorice and mint. £4.50 for 20 teabags! It's one of my only luxuries.

Okki · 26/09/2023 21:28

I'm just drinking less. And my skin is looking so much better from having more water, so it's a win win.

recklessgran · 26/09/2023 21:33

No way on earth I'd give up my PG tips - loads of other things would go before that! If you really have to OP I've heard M&S teabags are cheaper and just as good although I haven't tried them myself. I can however vouch for M&S baked beans and Ketchup if that helps anyone - FAR cheaper and just as nice as Heinz in both cases.

DiscoBeat · 26/09/2023 21:36

Never liked anything other than Twinings Earl Grey, so never buy anything else. When it's occasionally on offer I buy lots of boxes to keep us going till the next promotion!

Needanewname44 · 26/09/2023 21:43

Downgrade tea? No chance.

TroysMammy · 26/09/2023 21:46

I'd never economise on tea or cheese for that matter. I buy Waitrose extra strong teabag as my day to day and specialist black loose leaf for luxury.

Staggersaurus · 26/09/2023 21:47

Good tea and coffee will be the last thing to get downgraded in my house.

D1nopawus · 26/09/2023 21:51

Aldi gold. It wasn't planned, they'd ran out of Yorkshire so I bought a small box as an emergency alternative.

It's good & we've stuck with it.

GerbilMum26 · 26/09/2023 21:54

I’ve gone from pg tips decaf to tescos own. Or waitrose own if I’ve popped in there (only go there for the quail eggs for my spoilt kitten)

inloveandmarried · 26/09/2023 21:55

Lidl own brand tea and a bottle of food safe bergamot to put onto the dry tea bags.

Ultra cheap way to make earl grey tea.

Downgraded from Twinnings.

TheMousePipes · 26/09/2023 21:55

Tea? Downgrade tea?!?

What is this madness?

Same
Or whatever goes to a decent price on Amazon

ProudThrilledHappy · 26/09/2023 21:56

Echoing Aldi Gold - We’ve always been a yorkshire tea house but I bought aldi gold as a stopgap and it was good enough to keep buying

bemorebernard · 26/09/2023 21:56

It has to be Yorkshire tea. The one thing I won't substitute for an own brand . Aldi do big boxes and they last me ages .

eastiseastwestiswest · 26/09/2023 21:57

I'm Yorkshire tea through and through and would never have anything else

Mummumgem · 26/09/2023 21:57

One thing I will not down grade, I use loose tea not bags, twinings breakfast or yorkshire.

ive cut back on coffee, I find my tummy doesn’t really like it, and good strong coffee is out so I use Tesco decaf which is okish

i do like squash, again Tesco I like their high juice orange best, use to like their pink grapefruit but not seen it for years

allthehops · 26/09/2023 21:58

Downgrade from PG? It's the worst tea in the world (sorry)

LadyGaGasPokerFace · 26/09/2023 21:58

Lidl Knightsbridge gold tea. It’s on par. I can’t complain. My db has started using it and he’s fussy with having PG tips only.

No tetley tea is the worst. Like old dishwater. Also need about 3 to get even close to a decent cuppa. False economy 😂

BarbieKew · 26/09/2023 21:59

Downgrade tea? Never!
It’s Yorkshire Tea or nowt.

I'm not a tea drinker, but I'll cut back on lots of other things before I ask DH to switch from Yorkshire tea to an own brand.
