Can't find a substitute for my beloved of tips.

Tea and coffee are two things I'll never downgrade. Yorkshire Tea and Douwe Egberts. Everything else is negotiable.

JofraArchersFastestBall · 27/09/2023 07:06

I have upgraded my tea to a range of fancy (delicious!) loose leaf blends.... but given up alcohol. It's cheaper overall and I feel much better.

MrsDeaconClaybourne · 27/09/2023 07:07

Tea is my red line! It's the one thing I won't try an alternative for. Only ever Yorkshire or Twinings for decaf if I can't get Yorkshire decaf!

I've even downgraded to lidl weetabix which is passable but tea is a no.

I’ve just given up buying some things as it’s easier and you save more. Squash and fabric conditioner have bitten the dust in our house.

Tea? Downgrade tea?!?

What is this madness?

Exactly.

M&S Empress
M&S Decaf Earl
Whittards Darling
On rotation

Anything else is sink water to me.

gogomoto · 27/09/2023 07:12

I've bought lidl tea for years, my mum thinks it's Tetley and was surprised when she saw the packaging. Honestly the difference is marginal, brands are in the head

GoodlifeGlow · 27/09/2023 07:14

I used to buy M&S bog standard tea which was fine, then I read an article about the volume of herbicides they spray on tea plants in developing countries and it put me right off so I upgraded to Clipper organic tea and buy it in bulk when it’s on offer on Ocado.

gogomoto · 27/09/2023 07:14

I do buy pukka when on special but I'll drink them instead of wine often!

DinosApple · 27/09/2023 07:14

I've recently swapped Decaf Yorkshire Tea to Aldi own decaf and there's very little difference. And it's only £1.50 a pack.

Blondeshavemorefun · 27/09/2023 07:26

Tea is tea

Honestly don't mind what tea bags

R.E.M. an episode of eat well for less

She knew her teabags. Said had to be branded and costly

Then didn't know and was drinking the cheap own brand and said nice 😂😂😂

TheNoodlesIncident · 27/09/2023 07:37

We will pay the ransom rather than downgrade our tea, and yes we can tell the difference between brands! We used to go to our local Sainsbury's cafe which used their own brand teabags, our DS wouldn't drink the tea there as it wasn't nice and noticeably different. (The Yorkshire Decaf isn't nice to us either, there's a definite taste to it that's not the same as the regular.)

Each to their own but we won't be moved from Yorkshire Tea...

I once had a Yorkshire Tea at a train station in desperation.

Poured it away after two sips. Worst £2.75 I’ve spent in my life.

DustyLee123 · 27/09/2023 08:09

I’ll never downgrade from Yorkshire tea. I’d get rid of one of the kids first 🤣

Blondeshavemorefun · 27/09/2023 08:22

I think if you like strong tea the. Maybe yes bags matter

I dunk in and out

Like weak black tea

dothehokeycokey · 27/09/2023 08:25

Yorkshire tea and twinnings every day breakfast for tea bags in my house

Tassimo pods machine for coffee or hot chocolate and sachets when on offer for instant.

I upgraded to tassimo as we've stopped buying coffees out now at over £3.20 each.

I get a box of 16 americano pods for £5 and use a milk frother so a massive saving for us

PinkRoses1245 · 27/09/2023 08:26

When you consider the price of each tea bag out of your day of eating and drinking honestly I’d cut back elsewhere.

WildFlowerBees · 27/09/2023 08:31

I buy the big bags of Yorkshire Tea from B&M 480 bags for £10.99 you take everything but my tea.

Northbright · 27/09/2023 08:36

Twinings English Breakfast in the morning. Otherwise the day just starts off wrong and I feel all out of sorts. No point scrimping on your mental wellbeing.

Sturmundcalm · 27/09/2023 08:36

Waitrose essentials. I mainly drink decaf now but both versions are good.

I used to have PG tips and like twinings. Hate Yorkshire and Tetleys if that helps with the assessment of taste!

paisley256 · 27/09/2023 08:40

I don't see the point in having tea unless it's Yorkshire tea.

YouAndMeAndThem · 27/09/2023 08:44

PG tips cost like 3p per tea bag, they are one of the cheapest brands of tea. Is it worth saving pennies on tea? I'd just buy fewer biscuits!

LubaLuca · 27/09/2023 08:46

I won't cut back on my favourite tea. M&S Gold. It's more expensive than it was, but I enjoy it so much and it's not that big an expense in the grand scheme of things that I won't try anything else.

LadyBird1973 · 27/09/2023 09:29

I used to buy the pukka 3 mint but at £4.50 they can bugger right off. Tetley do a fab mint which is very similar for £1.95
