Can't find a substitute for my beloved of tips.

Lidl's tea is fine. Have tried Tesco's own brand too and have enjoyed that.

MontezumasPuma · 26/09/2023 22:33

And for occasional cups of caffeine tea, it has to be Morgan’s Brew.

VesperLynne · 26/09/2023 22:33

Twinnings Earl Grey : it was good enough for the Queen.

Maybe Aldi or Lidl could produce a tea that's so similar to PG Tips that only noticeable that it's not PG Tips by virtue of the fact that it's called something completely different and just a fraction of the price. Perhaps they could call it 'Of Tips'! 😜

KickboxingWanker · 26/09/2023 22:36

Lidl’s own in a red box - tbh I can’t tell the difference between that and branded tea - I only have 2 cups a day, maybe my tastebuds are shot!

theduchessofspork · 26/09/2023 22:37

Always Punjana. The ultimate builders

Saying that I think my in laws drink aldi gold and it’s quite good. My sister has Yorkshire and I’m less keen on that.

DragonDoor · 26/09/2023 22:37

Where are you buying your Pukka Tea? It’s £3.99 in Holland and Barrett and on a 3 for 2 offer just now. H and B also have a reward scheme- collect points and then you’ll receive vouchers to get money off purchases.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 26/09/2023 22:39

Why does everyone always spell Twinings as Twinnings? It rhymes with linings, not winnings. I buy their decaf Earl Grey for evenings

heartbroken22 · 26/09/2023 22:40

@Saschka can you try Asda just essential teabags 40 for 40p. People can downgrade.

@RikkiVictorious done it twice now with autocorrect 😂

I'm still buying Richard tea, their Royal teas are delicious and I really don't want to drink anything else. I really love their Lord Grey loose tea.

localnotail · 26/09/2023 22:53

I'm weird as I don't drink tea! But I started drinking cheap Lidl coffee which tastes awful so I drink less of it and mainly drink water now )))

theysaiditgetseasier · 26/09/2023 22:54

PG would be my downgrade from Yorkshire only IF I had to, I'd rather save on something else though

Cowlover89 · 26/09/2023 22:59

Would never ever downgrade my Yorkshire tea for anything.

DiaNaranja · 26/09/2023 23:21

Our favourite is the Tesco red label but haven’t been able to get it with the silver wrap for months, just loose in a cardboard box which tastes dusty and stale (I assume the silver wrap is for freshness). I’ve got a box of Yorkshire to try when it runs out.

I'm pretty sure it comes in the silver packaging still, if you buy the big boxes. The smaller ones they're just loose in there now, but the last time I bought the big box, it came with about 8 individual packets of foil wrapped bags. I agree, it tastes nicer like that!

Ok! Sainsbury’s and Tesco are similar price to PG Tips, assumed other supermarkets would be similar.

heartbroken22 · 27/09/2023 00:01

@Saschka I wish! Sainsburys own brand is like 46p per 100g whereas PG tips are 84p per 100 g. Think Aldi own brand are half the price compared to PG tips too.

Twinings extra strong breakfast tea downgraded to tesco finest English breakfast. I try to limit it at the moment due to breastfeeding but have at least 2 cups each morning.

Have had M&S own brand extra strong in the past and they are good, I just don't have a store locally any more.

TiredCatLady · 27/09/2023 00:15

I’ll cut back on pretty much everything before I give up my Yorkshire Tea. Absolute heresy.

AuntieSoap · 27/09/2023 00:21

I won't downgrade from Twinings Earl Grey. I just don't like cheap tea and I'd rather have a nice cup of tea than a glass of wine any day. I also buy a pack of Darjeeling second flush loose leaf tea which is about £36 but lasts for ages because I re-infuse it about 3 times in a day.

RoseMartha · 27/09/2023 00:24

I wait until it is on offer and then I buy it. Yorkshire tea fan here. Same with the coffee I like, only buy if on offer. I will drink hot water most days as well.

Mossstitch · 27/09/2023 00:32

GerbilMum26 · 26/09/2023 21:54

I’ve gone from pg tips decaf to tescos own. Or waitrose own if I’ve popped in there (only go there for the quail eggs for my spoilt kitten)

😹😹😹 love it, downgrade tea but kitten gets quail eggs from waitrose1😻💘

It's £4.75 a box in Sainsbury's! (Hence, er, not buying it. Was £2.50 a couple of years ago in Tesco) Would never occur to me to try Holland and Barrett for a bargain on anything. However I shall have a look.

FlowerTink · 27/09/2023 04:32

Another one echoing the Aldi Tea, tried it and liked it so much we've stuck with it

Crunchymum · 27/09/2023 06:57

Buy when on offer and drink less. I'm down from 5 cups a day to 3 (more due to teeth staining than finances)
