Lol. This is Mumsnet not teenagernet

If I am that stupid to believe in any #influencers then something has gone wrong in my life

JamSandle · 25/09/2023 18:18

I dont follow any.

Kpo58 · 25/09/2023 18:20

Olga of Kiev took no shit. She was a very independent woman who got things done.

This is the funniest thread I have read on here in ages, can't quite believe this is from MNHQ! 😂😂

GodDammitCecil · 25/09/2023 18:21

The only ‘influencers’ (if you can call them that) I follow are (good, i.e. funny) comedians.

I don’t follow any parenting influencers because a). I don’t need any help in that department, and b). how dull.

Meeting · 25/09/2023 18:21

I would actively avoid anyone who thinks it's a good idea to plaster their 'parenting' all over social media. It's disturbing, neglectful and exploitative.

I've seen them in public. Couldn't care less about the child as long as it looks good for social media.

Bet she had a nanny doing all the childcare.

megletthesecond · 25/09/2023 18:23

None. They're all grifters and I am not stupid.

MMAMPWGHAP · 25/09/2023 18:24

Does Charlie Diyte on YouTube count? He’s helped massively with my DIY.
Or am I missing the point?

ThornInMySide84 · 25/09/2023 17:38

None, because I’m not 12.

This!

I thought I was being a misery thinking this - then I realised I wasn't alone!

izzy2076 · 25/09/2023 18:25

Father of Daughters. He makes me feel less inadequate, more funny and less invasive as a parent.

Etam · 25/09/2023 18:27

I feel like influencers are a bit irrelevant now. I've felt like there's been a lot of backlash against them lately. I feel people in general are looking for more "real" people.

Personally I've been put off by so called influencers over the past few years. It's like they've got too big for themselves and I find them disingenuous. Unlike most 'real people' influencers are essentially living in a dream world. Pushing products they've been paid to promote. Wearing things they previously would never be able to afford. It's fake. They've got 'too big' and are full of themselves. I feel like they purposely create moments to share, rather than capture genuine moments that people would be interested in.

If I see a product or service shared by an influencer now, I'm usually quite put off by it because I assume they've been paid to say positive things about it.

TheShellBeach · 25/09/2023 18:28

Queen Victoria had a very useful blog, back in the day, but I believe she's dead now.

MrsApplepants · 25/09/2023 18:28

None. I don’t need ‘influencers’ and the piles of nonsense they spout thank you.

Amblesidebadger · 25/09/2023 18:29

I'm not sure you've got the right demographic here... echoing the above comments.

Sloth66 · 25/09/2023 18:31

None. I loathe the whole shallow Influencer nonsense.

Mmhmmn · 25/09/2023 18:32

The whole concept of “influencers” is moronic. Being influenced by some vacuous idiot with a YouTube account and one brain cell, a big gob that never shuts, and no scruples about the source of their income? Nah, no thanks.

Womencanlift · 25/09/2023 18:33

Looking forward to reading the comments about this thread on that other site. Got a feeling it will be ripped to shreds

But if this is serious, the sooner the influencer phenomenon is over the better

VisionsOfSplendour · 25/09/2023 18:34

Why woutd anyone go to a random social media person when they could use reputable sources of information from the internet in general or crowd source from a wide range of posters on here?

Do we have a generation of parents unable to think for themselves?

Your comment pretty well nails it.

Toottooot · 25/09/2023 18:36

The only thing they do is influence me not to buy from whatever company is dishing out freebies these idiots do not need or use.

Googlelina · 25/09/2023 18:44

So in summary Mumsnet there are no influencers who “Vibe” with your target demographics on here. There is no “synergy” to be created with an influencer for a #paidpartnership #ad.
We see through influencers and unfortunately they don’t influence us!

GalileoHumpkins · 25/09/2023 18:45

Bit late for April Fools MN!

ReeseWitherfork · 25/09/2023 18:46

Officially, I agree with everything everyone has said on this thread.

In reality, the only person that I follow that might be considered an “influencer” is Lindsey Gurk because she’s got a very warm, chaotic energy that I rather enjoy. She’s recently set up a business making sweatshirts with a slogan (“Get Your Pink Back”, because she resonated with mother flamingos temporarily losing their pink hue when they have babies) so I suppose she is technically trying to sell me something. But only recently.

Here’s a recent video of her chopping onions with a pan lid as a face mask. It’s the kind of influencing I want tbh.

I wouldn't trust anyone who sets themselves up as an influencer.

I am long past "active parenting" in that my kids are grown adults with children of their own. But I agree with this... there are too many sheep looking for a flock leader to tell them what to think and do, on any subject under the sun. Unless MN can professionally validate the experience, qualifications and abilities of individuals, this kind of endorsement is unwise and potentially dangerous. Can I remind you that Andrew Tate is an influencer?
