If you have a mini (car)...

What do you think of it!

I currently have an Audi TT which is costing me way too much monthly and isn't suitable any more for what I need.

Considering a mini but I don't know where to start! So, if you have one, what do you think?

Are they fun? Spacious enough? I'd love to know! 😌😌

Well if OP introduces an A1 a golf isn’t such a leap…

I'm just joshing. 😉

Delphigirl · 23/09/2023 15:27

But the countryman looks idiotic

wagnbobble · 23/09/2023 15:28

Love my mini countryman , nippy and nice high driving position. It’s a manual and found the clutch very high compared to my old A class Mercedes so leg gets tired on long journeys . Will replace with mini automatic

I know @MNetcurtains . I get your point. Someone will come on and recommend a Skoda Octavia estate in a second. Someone always does! 🤣🤣

I only suggested it because OP is "rural" and Clubman is 4WD.

Hey! Don't diss Skodas!! j/k diss away.😂

MariePaperRoses · 23/09/2023 15:46

I wouldn't have a mini after a colleague, a young woman not long after getting married was killed in a car crash and the engine was pushed into her lap.

Crushed to death.

Talltall · 23/09/2023 15:48

@happis

got à Cooper S
its three door and amazing

will get the new electric one new March

BarbaraofSeville · 23/09/2023 16:00

I loved mine even though the fuel economy wasn't great, although that could have been due to how I drove it Grin. It was also too low off the ground to get out of it with my middle aged knees and almost impossible to get in and out of the back if you have any mobility problems (neither DM or DSis could manage it without great difficulty).

So I now have a sensible 4 door Citigo but my current fantasy car for when I get my pension lump sum in a few years time is an electric Countryman. However, I've just seen some prototype footage and they've utterly ruined it, such that it doesn't look like a Mini at all, which has completely rained on that fantasy parade.

Skodas are great cars and don't have a cock badge! 😁

I always had minis for years & years, 8 in total. Never wanted any other. But the original classic minis.
Can’t seem to take to the BMW ones. Have driven one or two, test drives & friend’s but not for me. Currently have a battered old Series 2 Landrover & a Fiat 500 I’ve had from new.

LolaSparkle · 23/09/2023 16:44

I have a 22 plate mini covertible in red and I absolutely LOVE it!
I'm a bugger for changing cars as I get bored easily but this is by far my most favourite care I've ever had!

otherwayup · 23/09/2023 16:50

Mine is 22 years old and still going strong!
I love it, super reliable, fun to drive and very cheap to run.

I drove a bigger, flashier hire car on holiday and couldn't wait to get back to my mini!

FormerlySpeckledyHen · 23/09/2023 16:55

I love my beautiful black JCW auto 3 door hatch. Goes like a rocket. This is my third consecutive mini and have owned a Cooper S and Cooper previously and 3 more back in the olden days.

When they improve the range I will get an electric one. I’ve had one on test for 24 hours and was very impressed with it.

happis · 23/09/2023 17:20

Very interesting! Thanks everyone for your help and opinions! I was also considering the convertibles. They look so much fun! Xx

My teenager (older obviously) has one. Stating the obvious they're too small, with shoebox size boot space. Cheap to buy and run though

SENDhelp2023 · 23/09/2023 17:27

Love mine, best car ever!

viques · 23/09/2023 17:28

My dd has a mini. She loves it, the thing she really loves most is when she opens the drivers door a mini logo light shines down on the pavement! Something else to go wrong imo, but it pleases her. 🙂

Crushed to death.

That sort of thing worries me about these tiny cars.

MardyMcBlowdry · 23/09/2023 17:33

I have the most basic Mini you can get, and I love it! It's got no bells & whistles to speak of, but the only thing I'd add is a heated seat for winter. I recently drove from SE England to NE Scotland and only used 3/4 tank of fuel, so it's fuel economy is great. It's got a 1.5l engine, so is really nippy too.

BarbaraofSeville · 23/09/2023 17:33

What do people mean by them being cheap to run?

Mine used 30-50% more fuel than my Citigo does, and the tax was more.

Repairs, servicing and insurance was about the same and it wasn't particularly cheap to buy compared with other small cars, so on balance was quite expensive for a very small car.

BreadInCaptivity · 23/09/2023 19:09

We had a 3 dr cooper S a few years ago as a second car and loved it. Totally reliable and felt really solid/quality.

Sadly sold it as DS needed a larger car for work purposes.

He still thinks it's the best car we ever owned - and that's competing against much more expensive cars BMW's/Audi's/Merc's and Porche's.

We found it really fun to drive and frankly despite being the smaller car it was the one we used the most often (teens fit in it fine in the back) because it was so good to drive.

Seats down in the back and it was really practical for runs to the tip and you could get loads in it.

When it's time to trade his current car (Merc E class coupe) next year he will be buying another Mini - maybe another 3dr Cooper S (or a 5 door) but potentially a Cooper Works I think this will be where DH will end up.

It will be our biggest car (in comparison to my 2 seater Cayman S) but we have no worries about it being big enough especially as both the children will have fled the nest post uni by then.

Shade17 · 23/09/2023 19:22

going from my TT will be difficult speed and performance wise

That very much depends on the TT you’re going from and the MINI you’re going to.

Saxendi · 23/09/2023 19:37

Cooper S here, great car, really rate it, very nippy!

OK, now I need to know what a cock badge is!
