If you have a mini (car)...

What do you think of it!

I currently have an Audi TT which is costing me way too much monthly and isn't suitable any more for what I need.

Considering a mini but I don't know where to start! So, if you have one, what do you think?

Are they fun? Spacious enough? I'd love to know! 😌😌

On my 4 th , best cars ever . Will always have a mini if I can going forward . Current one is 6 years old and I still love the look of him . ( Sven )

Love my Mini Clubman Cooper S. The dealer couldn’t believe I was switching from a Range Rover to a mini. Very happy I did. It’s spacious, loads of gizmos and looks gorgeous. And it goes like the clappers!

Sundaygirl01 · 23/09/2023 14:24

I loved mine when I first had one years ago but it wasn’t practical for my two children when they grew big and tall. I wouldn’t have another one. I imagine they would be difficult to get in and out of as you get older.

My husband wants a yellow one, but the current yellow on offer is too 'limey' for him....
I have a Suzuki Vitara and absolutely love it!

I'm "older", but also a short arse, and I don't have any problems. My husband (slightly older) struggles a bit, but he's not a short arse and he's also a Range Rover driver so used to stepping out of a taller car.

I have a red mini cooper s and I LOVE IT!

HatandCat · 23/09/2023 14:32

I loved my little 3 door mini. It’s surprisingly spacious (esp the boot). I had it until my kids were 1 and nearly 3 and it still worked having two car seats in and a single buggy in the back with all the baby things

HatandCat · 23/09/2023 14:35

Also keeps it’s value fairly well as well

MikeWozniaksMohawk · 23/09/2023 14:37

I have a 5 door hatch. Love it. Nippy and fun to drive. The boot isn’t very big but fine for a small supermarket shop. I wouldn’t have it as our main family car and I am not sure it will continue to accommodate two growing children in the back comfortably as they hurt bigger. 4 and 8 now but I will have to think carefully in 18 months whether to get something bigger when my finance deal is coming to an end.

Nyancat · 23/09/2023 14:37

Automatic countryman hybrid - I adore it. It's so easy to drive, park, good acceleration, more than enough space in the boot for sports kits, shopping, general crap.

They're owned by BMW so the build quality and reliability isn't as high as you might expect. Would you consider buying Japanese or Hyundai/Kia?

Do you actually have one? After several, never had an issue!

itscurtainsnow · 23/09/2023 14:40

I love my mini, you need to go for at least the 1.5l cooper model as it’s fast but very economical, I average 52mpg and can get over 60mpg on a long journey. The drawback is the boot space which is tiny, I’m having to get rid of mine as I’m pregnant and it’s just not big enough.

StarDolphins · 23/09/2023 14:40

I changed from Audi A1 to Mini & I really like the mini but I preferred the Audi.

happis · 23/09/2023 15:09

Thank you all! I'm basically in a position where in stuck between going for an Audi A1 2020 (new shape) or a brand new mini. I don't know what to choose 😅 going from my TT will be difficult speed and performance wise, but need something a little more sensible now I've moved into a more rural area.

My sister has had one and so have a couple of close friends. All have had faults of one kind or another. My sister now has a Toyota, friends now have a Kia and Renault. Another friend had a BMW, it was in the garage more than on her drive.

Delphigirl · 23/09/2023 15:18

we had a mini clubman as a nanny car and it just cost me a lot. Fuel efficiency not good, servicing v expensive - and I’m used to bmw etc. quite skittish - not as much fun to drive as an mx5 which you can really throw about for example. Also smaller inside than was comfortable with rear seat early teens. Was quite glad to say goodbye to it. Love the look though. Have considered an electric mini recently but the range isn’t good.

Delphigirl · 23/09/2023 15:20

Ooh now we do have an A1 and that’s a GREAT car if you get one with a decent engine size. Brilliant to drive, chuck around-able, very fuel efficient, tarsus lije inside and decent boot. They’ve stopped making them so a good buy as I’m sure they will hold their value. I was trying to swap my DS’s 2012 A1 for a 2020 A1 but he won’t let me as he loves it so much.

Definitely a Clubman then.

I was looking at the mini copper sport 🤔

Why not a golf R? Last one though not the current one. All the car you’ll ever need and won’t frighten the locals in the country. DH loves his.

WTH? This is a Mini lovefest, what the hell are doing introducing a Golf into the convo?!!!😉

Delphigirl · 23/09/2023 15:26

Well if OP introduces an A1 a golf isn’t such a leap…

That's my Mini of choice. I suggest you test drive `both.

That’s what I have in mind to upgrade to, when the hatch becomes to small in the back for two kids who are only going to get bigger and bigger.
