GYM leggings - pants or no pants?

SpideyWoman1 · 21/09/2023 11:21

So a quick question for ladies who wear gym leggings.

I usually run outside so don’t give too much thought to a VPL except when I’m racing.

But I’ve been going to the gym more and conscious of my VPL - which I’ve noticed nobody else has? I’m not sure how you can escape a VPL in tight gym leggings. I have some seamless pants which are as close as you can get to not having a VPL but it’s still visible at times.

Are others not wearing any pants?

I appreciate this is a slightly personal question so thanks in advance if you feel comfortable to respond!

Anybody who judges another woman for visible underwear is a massive wanker and should be ignored!

Kat19899 · 21/09/2023 12:47

I wear underwear because I get worried about camel toe and I think it’s a bit more hygienic so I can wear leggings or shorts a couple of times. I recently bought these and they’re perfect even though I’m not usually a thong fan. They’re very stretchy so you can pull the waist band up really high

Definitely pants, my 1st time on Leggings got a 4 inch split in the crotch last week. We were going Pelvic Raises. Thank God I had underwear on.

For a second I thought you meant you split your actual crotch 😵😵. Think I need to go to back to bed 🙈

I hate a VPL at the gym. It's not the visibility that bothers me, it that it cuts into my arse cheeks!

I couldn't wear a thong or go without knickers. Jeez, no way. I'd be yeasty enough to bake a full loaf after half hour.

I wear boxers. I started off wearing women's boxers - Oddballs ones. But I find them really uncomfortable so now I wear my DP's old ones that he's gotten too fat for.

They work really well - no VPL and I feel like my ample arse is well-supported.

I've seen leggings split so pants here

Gnomegnomegnome · 21/09/2023 12:52

No pants unless I’m on my period. Not for any reason other than comfort although @user1471517095 has scared me slightly.

I do wear quite thick leggings/shorts.

bopbey · 21/09/2023 12:53

Also seen wet patches around the crotch area, could be sweat but who knows

VeridicalVagabond · 21/09/2023 13:02

People are assuming you're a man OP because a lot of the time men post things like this to get women to talk about their knickers so they can use it as wank fodder. It's sad but not uncommon.

As for your pants conundrum, I can't say I've ever looked hard enough at another woman's bum to notice her VPL, but even if I did spot one I wouldn't care. I'm there to suffer and get fit, not fret about any bum but my own. Wear whatever is comfiest!

If you can wear them a couple of times, you're also definitely not gymming properly!

comedownwithme · 21/09/2023 13:31

I have never really got the concept of a VPL being a problem

Underwear is normal, why are we trying to hide it?

That depends on what you’re using the gym for surely?

I go 4-5x a week but atleast one session is something like yoga or Pilates to just stretch and feel good/relax.

It’s not all about sweating your tits off. Some sessions will be slow, moving your body to improve your mental health or recover from injury. There’s no rules.

You’re absolutely right, of course. But I suppose like many things there’s a line and where we draw it is up to us.

In understand that just not sure how the comments really aid them in their suspicions.

Omg! I do have some pairs that are getting a bit thin and realise they must be 10+ years old. This is my sign to throw them out. Probably also contributes to a VPL as they’re deffo thinner (not least because my arse us gotten bigger).

What you really want to avoid is not VPL but the four bum effect caused by pants being too tight. Other than that VPL is indeed just wearing underwear.

floofbag · 21/09/2023 13:39

I always wear a thong otherwise you get 4 bums .. unless your bum is a nice shape they aren't the most flattering things are they. !

swimminglessonadvice · 21/09/2023 13:40

Bloody hell I wear my big cotton pants and a panty liner so I don’t sweat all over the equipment!

gymbunny04 · 09/11/2023 13:26

Surely its down to personal preference and what you find works best for you?

aswarmofmidges · 09/11/2023 13:29

I wear loose shorts or leggings rather than tight stuff

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 09/11/2023 13:30

Sweaty Betty do or used to do a seamless yoga pant (knickers) which I’ve worn before.

Can confirm my line is just under my arse cheeks, where my massive Sloggi pants sit.

I can't imagine not wearing knickers and letting it all hang out!

It wouldn't hang out with tight leggings or shorts on though.
