Thread 10 - TalkLair: “The candle flame gutters. Its little pool of light trembles.”

Kucinghitam · 19/09/2023 21:00

Continuation of previous threads (thread 9).

Although the nights are gradually drawing in, the new lair of JTT escapees is all cosy and homey inside. The hearth is glowing, the walls covered in dubious artwork, books by non-approved authors line the shelves, rugs are down on the floors (and assorted pets curled up on them).

We just won’t mention the gnawed bones of our prey over there in the corner of the cave…

Sounds like excellent progress, and hurrah for a quiet ward!

MavisMcMinty · 09/11/2023 09:57

Now you can be properly nourished, Mouse, to best recover from your upcoming surgery. Hope you’re on your way home now, xxxx

As soon as I saw this thread pop up in Trending, I had an instinct that it would be a classic MN-bingo bunfight. But even better, the ill-fated OP mentioned cutlery in the "wrong hands" and I knew, I knew, that 95% of the responses would be RAGE at this specific thing, to the exclusion of the rest of the post Grin

I'll only say on that topic that I'm left-handed; it does not require me to use different hands for knives and forks, neither does it require me to hold a pen in some ridiculous crab-like pose to write either. But I would always give threads like that a wide berth!

MouseMinge · 09/11/2023 11:22

She got told off for explaining that she meant different right left/left right for left handed people. Anyway, today I learned that I'm a Victorian bigot and, yes, YES, Americans do it WRONG although my Rachel RIP had impeccable eating habits. But, yes, let's not deal with the real issue, a 12 year old who eats like a toddler, let's rage about wrong hands!

MouseMinge · 09/11/2023 11:27

I'm outside getting some fresh air. I have food going through the tube now, set up by nurses and waiting for the nutritionist who'll hopefully be bringing me a more portable device. I saw my consultant this morning and the big operation will be early December unless of course they find actual cancer in my stomach. If that happens it's chemo/radiotherapy. I'm very sore but raring to go. 😓

MouseMinge · 09/11/2023 11:29

Wrong emoji! It should be a smile.

Britinme · 09/11/2023 11:55

Good luck with all of that, Mouse.

MouseMinge · 09/11/2023 13:34

Thanks, @Britinme . I'm incredibly cheerful today considering the state of my poor tender stomach. I think standing outside in the fresh air has really helped. And apple juice. Not one cup but two! My friend H is now coming to pick me up later. My friend B was stressing about driving in the dark and her stress was stressing me so I asked H who loves driving and all is well.

I hope everyone else is having a good day too!

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 09/11/2023 13:39

Are you back home and resting your feet now, Brit?

Tricyrtis2022 · 09/11/2023 13:42

@Kucinghitam I was somewhat guilty of derailing the thread with the 'wrong hands' stuff, but she was being a bit of a snoot at that point and it annoyed me. Like duc, I don't need to hold a pen in a weird crabbed way either, nor does Mr Tric.

Good to hear you're up about, Mouse!

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 09/11/2023 17:22

But still no photo of the label to keep us occupied until tonight's reveal.

Tricyrtis2022 · 09/11/2023 17:25

Yeah, that's just cruel.

Britinme · 09/11/2023 22:35

@BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn - my feet are mightily relieved not to be walking for a couple of days! It was a great trip - I enjoyed my granddaughter’s company a lot, and I hope she enjoyed mine. I’m still in NJ but home to Maine tomorrow and looking forward to seeing DH again.

MouseMinge · 09/11/2023 23:03

After hanging around for a very long time for the food that goes down the feeding tube, I finally got home at 20:30. So far I've had to keep both cats away from my stomach, it's as though they know it's a forbidden area. It doesn't help that it's the size of a very large football because it's all full of gas, so it looks like a very comfortable cushion to them. I've been sent home with morphine which came as a surprise, clearly my pain threshold is higher than I thought. At least I should get a good night's sleep tonight! It is so good to be home!

I, too, discovered I am a Victorian bigot Grin in fact, I feel a namechange coming on.

@MouseMinge glad you’re home! I hope the cats are taking extra special care of you and you enjoy the morphine. Kasper has woken me up in the night many times jumping on my bladder and I lived in fear when I was recovering from my laparoscopy. As it turned out he wouldn’t come anywhere near me because of )))hospital smells(((.

VictorianBigot · 10/11/2023 00:36

🍽🍴

Emojis are bigoted too

VictorianBigot · 10/11/2023 00:42

Speaking of bigotry, I got the rage last night when I went to use the loo in a bar, the sort of bar where the clientele is 90% women, and I had to choose between the Men’s or the Men and Women’s.

MouseMinge · 10/11/2023 00:44

I think I have too many layers of clothes on to keep me warm right now and they're hiding the hospital smells. At least I hope so. I need them to stay away from my big fat wind-filled gut.

VictorianBigot is the best username in the history of usernames.

I didn’t. I live in a very Woke area and wasn’t in the mood for confrontation.

MavisMcMinty · 10/11/2023 11:33

Had to explain to macman the other day that if ever he thinks there’s shit on my towel (the only rail is next to the toilet), it isn’t shit, it’s just where Badger rests his left foot when drinking from the toilet bowl, and sometimes his foot is muddy.

(To explain: I have just read a thread where a husband apparently - on a previous thread by the same OP - had smeared his shit on his wife’s new towel.)

I have a cold and have lost all sense of taste and smell, first time I can remember this happening in my life, so wondering if it’s Covid? I was up in The Big City (Hertfordshire commuter belt) last weekend so must have caught it there, whatever it is. Had Covid early 2022 but didn’t lose my smell/taste that time.
