In fairness I think those sorts of threads invite a one liner response rather than a detailed outline of the various choices & weighing up of issues many people make when casting a vote.

I also don't think financially comfortable people always recognise how good public services directly benefit the economy and provide necessary support to long term prosperity.

Off topic I've been sent a clip of Cates talking about reform of tax system where she links high levels of divorce to the need for tax reforms to promote traditional families staying together. I'm deeply uncomfortable with this method of encouraging parents to remain in otherwise unhappy unions. I'm not going to discuss details but parents locked together for financial reasons rather than emotional ones does not make a good platform for family life.

AdamRyan · 29/09/2023 08:35

In its defence, the Mail on Sunday argued that prior to publication it had double-checked Braverman’s decision to single out British-Pakistanis with advisers to the home secretary and the prime minister, Rishi Sunak. Both teams at the top level of government confirmed they had “no concern over this particular line” and were happy for it to be published.

Disgraceful.

DuncinToffee · 29/09/2023 08:38

The private school threads make me laugh, especially when they say Labour lost their vote and to expect a state school invasion.

Braverman's SpAD was previously Home Affairs correspondent for the Daily Mail. I suspect he had quite alot of influence ghost writing it for Braverman.
It's all very cosy.

Oh that's another one. Miriam Cates is a darling of the current FWR posters. When to me everything she says is regressive and harms women/humans/the planet.
"Women have vaginas, and they should use those vaginas to push out babies in their country of origin".

It makes my head spin.

RafaistheKingofClay · 29/09/2023 08:51

Oh I know it’s a MN bubble issue and isn’t a voting issue for most outside MN. Just baffled that so many people on here are prepared to throw women and children under the bus on this specific issue.

DuncinToffee · 29/09/2023 08:53

It will be Labour's fault

https://news.sky.com/story/rishi-sunak-and-boris-johnson-have-overseen-largest-tax-rises-since-second-world-war-think-tank-12972001

Record tax rises since 2019 will cost equivalent of £3.5k per hh. Tories overseen largest increase in taxes (£100bn this parl) since 2WW. By time of next GE tax burden expto rise from 33% to 37% of nat income & higher taxes ‘may never be reversed’

@ifs

Rishi Sunak and Boris Johnson have overseen largest tax rises since Second World War - thinktank

The lack of tax cuts from the Conservative government has left swathes of the party angry, as they believe reducing tariffs is a key part of the party's philosophy.

It's not a vote issue for me.

Like with many issues no party excels themselves on woman's rights. It's along battle we have to fight but I'd rather fight it in a country with economic growth and public services!

Exactly, if it's a choice between 'knowing what a woman' and having an ambulance turn up if I have a heart attack, I'm choosing the ambulance.

RafaistheKingofClay · 29/09/2023 09:00

I have to admit I didn’t have ‘labour haven’t had experience in government and will have to learn everything from scratch’ on my bingo card. That’s a new one.

Sunak doesn't appear to have experience of perfectly normal things like using a petrol station...

Oh I was in a big fight on the gender board yesterday, getting accused of being a labour politician/CCHQ plant to make labour look bad because i was not enthusiastically agreeing a campaign to ask politicians their views on what a woman is, is a great idea.
I used to love the feminism board too. It was my online home.

I think you’re very courageous and have a strong stomach to go there at all. They’d hate me over there. Second wave feminists are the devil incarnate.

AdamRyan · 29/09/2023 10:47

Thing is blossom I am an old school feminist (don't hate me!!). That board has now morphed into something different, and doesn't really bear much resemblance to any feminism I know. Its very odd.

Why would I hate you for being an old school feminist? I am too. And I’ve been told on here that I’m either the wrong kind of feminist or not one at all. Total disregard for the fact that without feminists like you and me they wouldn’t have equal pay, maternity rights or autonomy over their own money. The Pankhursts must be turning in their graves.

pointythings · 29/09/2023 11:17

I'm another old school feminist. The current lot are so laser focused on everything trans that they've lost sight of being a feminist.

It’s being hammered again on a thread about why the Tories will win the next election. The frequency of those threads and the reek of desperation make me think we’re very probably looking at May. CCHQ seems to be really ramping up now.

DuncinToffee · 29/09/2023 12:21

They must be desperate seeing they are sending out that chica one again Wink

GE can't come soon enough for me. Chica had a nice line in wishful thinking on the KS thread, but I get the Electoral Calculus updates in my inbox and I am happy to say there was nothing in there to support her contention that 'something major had shifted'.

See , now,my version of feminism also feels rage at the underdiagnoses of heart attacks in women when they do phone for ambulances or present at A and E.

DuncinToffee · 29/09/2023 14:04

Hmm, I think I have just encountered clav in disguise.

Anyway, I founds this interesting from Adam Bienkov

If you're wondering why there has been quite so much coverage of Labour's plans to tax private schools, it may have just a little something to do with this.

Gosh who knew those Socialist Senior Judges were largely privately educated. Grin

Yep. Newspapers are obsessed with private schooling.
Never mind that 93% of the public are state educated!

DuncinToffee · 29/09/2023 14:15

Don't worry those woke judges will be moving countries soon to avoid the hike in fees Wink

If only they cancelled their Sky subscription......

Yes, exactly
I get very angry that some feminists appear to be prioritising "knows what a woman is" over "has a policy to reduce violence against women". Seems weird.

Same here.

No shame in being a feminist - and certainly no shame in being the original type!
