Three weeks to go I suppose. Please let us know what it’s like in a couple of weeks @Piggywaspushed.

I am not sure there is any point engaging with those threads, but now and again I can't help it.

Bingo card is a good idea.

I’ve got 2 x 50min bus journeys every day. What else am I going to do?

Sometimes I think of all the books I could read in that time. And then MN happens.

DuncinToffee · 28/09/2023 20:07

Ofcom chief executive just said on C4 news that there are 12 active investigations into gbeebies

She did come across quite dismissive and waffled on about free speech

30p Lee will be interviewing Braverman on show.

I'm having a great email spat with one of our local (not mine) Tory councillors.

It's about the fact they are building a new threatre/conference centre, reducing the parking by 5/6 and all he'll say about disabled spaces is " well provide what we are regulated to". It is more than half less spaces than are currently use at one time.

I also asked about the shop mobility scheme and his snippy reply was "you'd know but you obviously do t use it"

So I happily pointed out that no - I don't! I've been lucky in the lottery of north and life not to be disabled. But the party are deaf to the fact the British people they keep stating they are delivering for want equality and inclusion. Not a race to bottom providing the bare minimum.

The strength of feeling on the FB post is refreshing too. I'm glad to see that "The British people" of my town want provision for those who need it and want delivery for all at the highest level.

He known to be an arrogant whatname but I think he's becoming quite angry as the wheels are falling off and people no longer lobe him or his precious Braverman and what they stand for Grin

Sunak to set out his plan for motorists at conference on Monday. Seemingly restricting power of local councils to prioritise pedestrians/cyclists/bus passengers over motorists. Twat.

My shameful secret is that I find Cummings fascinating.

Not in a hero worshipping way, more a what make Charles Manson tick kind of way.

Ooh same here. Evil genius.

What a shame he couldn't use his brains to the good.

@Piggywaspushed
Re the confusion at anyone who is anyone but Tory- My concerns summed up!
Let them in anyway. In a way ( and sorry for you) but if that happens, then that's a learning curve that I hope will be heeded in the next GE campaigns.

How is she allowed to be our Home Secretary ?
I actually do despair 😩

BIossomtoes · 28/09/2023 22:04

We’re certainly paying a high price for Rishi keeping the ERG on side.

Notonthestairs · 28/09/2023 22:13

"This has led to the highly unusual situation of a newspaper printing a factual correction to a comment article authored by a leading cabinet minister."

I bet the Daily Mail loved that. Slipped it in small font, page 40?

I immediately wondered how much they have to fact check Johnson & Dorries' columns.

Their lawyers must be knackered.

RafaistheKingofClay · 28/09/2023 22:20

I’d imagine they don’t bother. Accuracy of facts has never been high on their agenda.

True. Easier to take the slap on the wrist & print a correction nobody reads.

DuncinToffee · 28/09/2023 22:47

Guess Wootton went just that bit too far even for them as they have fired him

Just looked at the thread about what you’d base your vote on. There’s a whole load of ‘they know what a woman is’ on there.

Blows my mind that after all the policies that have adversely affected women under this government, the opposition party tying themselves in knots over hostile media trying to catch them out on whether women have a penis is an issue you’d risk Tories getting re-elected for.

Piggywaspushed · 29/09/2023 06:50

It's not representative though - it's a MN thing to be quite so laser focused on this single issue. The thread to Phillipson was full of it too. National surveys don't mirror this. If some people feel they can't vote Labour /Green/LD because of this that's up to them but the hyperbole that they have lost 51% of the vote is a bit much ( I don't think women comprise 51% of the vote, but that's another matter!)

itsgettingweird · 29/09/2023 07:29

It's not a vote issue for me.

Like with many issues no party excels themselves on woman's rights. It's along battle we have to fight but I'd rather fight it in a country with economic growth and public services!

jgw1 · 29/09/2023 07:43

The part I don't understand is only a cursory look at the Tories in government would mean that you knew they care not a jot for women (or people in general).

So I have come to the conclusion it is the latest iteration of But Jeremy Corbyn, as the private school fees thing is as well.

Efacsen · 29/09/2023 07:54

Yeah it's a Mumsnet bubble thing

Actual opinion polls in the real world have Labour consistently on 44% and Tories on 24%

IClaudine · 29/09/2023 07:55

The whole "ah, but does he know what a woman is" being used as a "gotcha" is deeply irritating. Those people who say they are basing their vote on that are probably Tories anyway. Or just plain stupid.

IClaudine · 29/09/2023 07:56

Yes, I think you are right. But Corbyn doesn't wash any longer.

AdamRyan · 29/09/2023 08:07

Oh I was in a big fight on the gender board yesterday, getting accused of being a labour politician/CCHQ plant to make labour look bad because i was not enthusiastically agreeing a campaign to ask politicians their views on what a woman is, is a great idea.
I used to love the feminism board too. It was my online home.

Yes, I think you are right. But Corbyn doesn't wash any longer.

But Tony Blair seems to be making a comeback though.

AdamRyan · 29/09/2023 08:16

My current favourites are 1) saying what Labour will do when Labour's policies say the opposite and 2) blaming Labour councillors for everything.
It's so weird. Mind you I'm old enough to remember the demon eyed Blair posters so I guess it's nothing new.

Really does feel like we are in GE campaigning mode which makes me wonder if we are in fact going to have a spring election

IClaudine · 29/09/2023 08:23

I think it might well be Spring too. The Tories will get slaughtered at the local elections and it would hard for them to limp on and grow a convincing GE campaign from that. Best to get it all over with in one go. Then Braverman can take over.😜
