As suggested by the lovely Pointythings and her feisty cat army

There's a thread on the Kaba case where OP basically calls for police officers on duty to have immunity from prosecution. Complete madness.

itsgettingweird · 24/09/2023 17:44

Braverman tweeted about Cummings too at the time before any investigation had even happened declaring his innocence.

She's too stupid for her own good. She doesn't actually give a shiny shite about the law which is why I can't work out why she's a lawyer and Home Secretary!

Jason118 · 24/09/2023 18:11

If Braverman's a lawyer, then I'm Hans Van Jason!

They don’t think the Met has enough issues without essentially giving their officers a free pass to commit crime while on duty?

newnamethanks · 24/09/2023 20:33

@Jason118, a lawyer and a Buddhist too. I do wonder how she lives with herself.

DuncinToffee · 25/09/2023 08:45

There is a lot of backtracking on HS2 and IHT going on this morning, almost as if they have shown to be unpopular decisions Hmm

Rishi Sunak is an unpopular decision, can that be back tracked on as well please?

Notonthestairs · 25/09/2023 09:26

Well I'm not surprised about the backtracking on HS2. Not even they could have the brass neck to tip up to conference in Manchester and announce that HS2 won't run that far.

Sam Coates tweeted HS2 announcement has been put back to November/budget statement.

I think they've been scrabbling around for policies to announce and have been testing the waters.

DuncinToffee · 25/09/2023 09:32

I hadn't clocked that their conference is in Manchester, oh dear Grin

Difficult to imagine that we ever ruled half the world when we can’t manage to build a single railway line between our 3 biggest cities given the size of the country.

mibbelucieachwell · 25/09/2023 12:58

Indeed.

Point of order - Glasgow is slightly bigger than Manchester.

Gordon Brown calling for OPEC to pay a windfall tax after profits of two and a half thousand billion pounds. Or was it dollars? Pesky middle-aged memory. Tbf there isn't much difference since LT put the tin lid on the British economy.

How unstatesmanlike the current government leaders seem in comparison.

That might explain some of the recent threads on MN!

Notonthestairs · 25/09/2023 18:26

Did you know you can suggest policy ideas for the Autumn Statement?

Head to our representation portal by 5pm on Friday 13 October 2023 to submit your idea.

What was I saying about scrabbling for ideas 😁

IClaudine · 25/09/2023 18:33

Ooh. I might suggest something for a laugh.

RafaistheKingofClay · 25/09/2023 18:34

That is tempting. What’s the most batshit suggestion that might actually make it through.

The meat and two veg tax, and 7 bins to hide in have been scrapped.

How about a walking tax, because it is better for GDP for everyone to sit in cars queueing?

RafaistheKingofClay · 25/09/2023 18:50

Brilliant. A tax on using public transport will help that too.

Seriously though, how did this even get through a brainstorming session without somebody pointing out that the obvious end point is going to be approximately 99% of people answering taking the piss. They’ve all forgotten Boaty McBoatface haven’t they?

RafaistheKingofClay · 25/09/2023 18:52

I’d suggest something along the lines of a workhouse, but I’m a bit worried they’d take that seriously.

Jason118 · 25/09/2023 18:52

I'm going to suggest hiring out the king to countries that don't have a monarch. A nice little earner surely?

I thought once we should have a tax on vegetables.

You could propose that for them to scrap "the policy" as part LFT be anti obesity and save the nhs drive?

Jason118 · 25/09/2023 18:55

Done Smile

newnamethanks · 25/09/2023 18:59

In Manchester?🤣🤣🤣 well, that's cheered me up.

What's public transport?

jgw1 · 25/09/2023 19:04

I am minded to suggest a functioning rail system between Hull and Liverpool?
