Right so it’s being described as Baroque because whoever is writing it is from the 18th century and can’t figure out how to upload the story

But why would it take 3 years if they were so keen to stop him from speaking out about whatever it is he waffles on about? Surely they have much more effective ways of silencing him quickly?

What other ways?

MrWhippyyy · 16/09/2023 17:34

Serial shagger has been sexual inappropriate with people is hardly news. It is vile what he did, but this has been seriously overhyped

You’re claiming that allegations of rape are ‘seriously overhyped’?

We’re talking about a story that suggests someone is a serial rapist and has gotten away with it so far. Why is that not big enough for some people? What are you after? Accusations of Multiple rapes are a big story. They should be a Big story, and the more people go ‘urgh, is that it?’ The more we continue to suggest in society that rape is an everyday occurrence that is to be accepted. This IS a big story.

So do people think the allegations against Jimmy Savile were trial by media and that as he was never reported, we shouldn't believe his victims?

Technically it was a trial by media; but this happened long after he died, and the evidence against him, from many different sources, victims, medical professionals, charity personnel and BBC staff, was overwhelming.

I find this whole thing so odd.

Dispatches has evidence that RB raped women? Or the word of the women?
The women haven't reported it to the police but have spoken to journalists. (i do believe them by the way).
What is to happen now then?
Is the idea that on the back of the program the allegations are now investigated by the police? Or just that RB is ... chucked off you tube?

If Dispatches made a program about any old Jo Bloggs doing all this what would we expect to happen next?
Would we watch it?
Would we care?

Genuine questions going round my head.

If your average Joe Bloggs had a workplace that enabled his predation and excused it as being just a benefit of working there, yes.

Let's say Joe is a £30k per year council employee and met young women on his job -- if other employees were made to collect the women and girls' contact info for the purpose of arranging sexual liaisons and multiple staff had witnessed and were involved in it, and felt it was not right but were told "Oh that's just what male council employees can expect!" then yes I would expect there to be a reported scandal though not on the same level as a celebrity with however many million followers.

Channel 4 need to address the "entertainment" culture they have been seminal in creating. They were at the forefront of reality TV with Big Brother, where being as over the top, devious, sexually deviant, willing to have on screen sex, willing to talk about and expose one's genitalia, willing to be a blatant on screen bully, willing to break down other's boundaries and push them to despair, etc, etc, is the route to success and C list fame; cheered on by presenters like Brand and the sainted Davina and hyped up audiences wanting a piece of the action. Their programming is 50% repulsive, laced with shows promoting the interests of fetishists and the puerile interest in the mundane lives of the those who don't understand they are being exploited; and 50% sanctimonious and oh so self congratulatory. Why wouldn't a figure like Brand - of modest talent and intelligence, but with a knack for self promotion and being larger than life - thrive in the sort of culture C4 have created? He's the blueprint for all the wannabes on their shows.

Agreed.
The great apatite for watching complete trash gutter TV is always going to lead to trouble.

Look at the JK show. Audiences lap it up and then it's revealed how the show was run and how broken half the guests were, and then it's like ''oh i'm boycotting JK now ...''

Why the fuck was anyone watching this shite in the first place!?

It's just depressing.

mydogisthebest · 16/09/2023 17:35

I also can't understand why it has taken 3 years to make this programme.

If true then raping 4 woman is obviously awful but how would it take so long to interview them? 40 woman I could understand it could take that long.

I, obviously, have no idea whether the story is true or not but it does seem a bit odd

Given the fact he was dead there couldn't be a trial by jury

I imagine it would be pretty easy to kill someone as sexually incontinent as RB. Quick injection from one of his conquests, overdose, in the papers, relapsed addict, job done.

But then I don't believe for a minute 'the powers that be' want him silenced.

I think instead he is a sleazy man who has got away with rape and sexual assault for too long, hiding behind lawyers and now hopefully he is about to get his just desserts.

lemmein · 16/09/2023 17:22

I believe them too. I also believe his daily rantings are problematic to the powers that be and that's why we're suddenly hearing these women's voices now, not because anyone actually gives a shit about victims.

It has been investigated FOR 3 YEARS.

Russel Brand went from leftie to raging right wing conspiracy theorist. Why do you think? He fucking knew it was coming and he needed people like you saying exactly what you are saying.

He was just fishing for useful idiots to buy his "I am being taken down because I speak the truth" blindly.

The power that be don't really care about a Z lister has been ranting daily...

HaddawayAndShite · 16/09/2023 17:38

BloodyHellKen · 16/09/2023 17:28

I would also rather it went through the courts and in an ideal world it would BUT we don't live in an ideal world and people can get away with a lot of criminal activity if they have the money/contacts.

Sometimes a press expose is the only way to bring someone to justice because a) then the police are forced to get their finger out and investigate
b) expensive lawyers aren't in a position to shut up witnesses once it's in the public arena.

I agree, perhaps my post was not the best written.

Laiste · 16/09/2023 17:38

@persimmonicelolly oh i agree.

I just have this sneaking suspicion that channel 4 wouldn't bother with it, because i don't think as many people would watch it if it was JB at the council rather than RB.

Maybe the rumours of injunction are right? Seemed unlikely to me - if it's even about Brand - but amazing how many big names have already come out to defend him.

Well given that one of the people who seem to have come out to defend him is Elon Musk, I suppose that it's not that surprising it's not trending on Twitter

PamelaAndreaGryglaszewska · 16/09/2023 17:42

His victims did report it and he was protected.

Quite. He had West Yorkshire police in his pocket, seemingly. Hospital heads wanted the charity funds he generated, so didn't want staff and patients interrupting the gravy train. The BBC protected their talent. Girls in reform schools and groupies apparently got what was coming to them. And frankly, fuck all has changed, wrt vulnerable young women in particular.

Rainbowsandbutterflies1990 · 16/09/2023 17:43

What I've found fascinating about him in particular is his cult like following on YouTube, all blindly declaring Loyalty and beliving anyone saying anything about him couldn't be true and it's just 'they' out to get him and try and silence him! I mean any Predator needs to just start a YouTube channel and be very right wing and say anything negative is deep state out to get them or silence them! It's so culty and just really awful to see.

Maybe the YouTube channel has been a long term plan for when this day comes?

LaaDeeDa321 · 16/09/2023 17:47

Russell Brand and his co-host used to strip down to their underwear while hosting their BBC 6Music show. The co-host has apologised for making anyone feel uncomfortable.

Exactly or even just planting a huge quantity of drugs on him to get him locked up for a long time. Loads of other ways that don't include such a lengthy process and the collaboration of so many individuals.

I’m assuming Walliams et al are off the hook then seeing as Russell Brand appears to be the title of tonight’s program?

Avocadocherry · 16/09/2023 17:50

@Intriguedbythis i read that too and found it equally shocking !

EsmaCannonball · 16/09/2023 17:50

I grew up in the eighties and nineties when alternative comedy was taking over from the old-style club and variety acts. You were definitely encouraged to believe that because the new comedians had progressive opinions then they must be better people than those who got by on joking about their mothers-in-law and the Germans. How naive that seems now.

I do think that this investigation should have happened, I do think the story should be published and the documentary should be aired, I do think the police should investigate and prosecute if appropriate. However, I do wonder if the media organisations who protected and enabled Brand despite his predatory behaviour would still be doing so if he still had what they regard as the right opinions. I don't mean that this is all a conspiracy to bring him down but rather that they would still be indulging him if he hadn't gone a bit alt-right. They wouldn't have investigated him if he'd stayed one of their own. The big story here isn't Russell Brand but how the arts and media world still enables these men, especially if the men are in the right tribe.

I honestly think it was. I mean it's ideal isn't it! He's got blind following thinking he's some guru/cult leader. U can tell when u actually engage with the comments on the YouTube video.
