Right so it’s being described as Baroque because whoever is writing it is from the 18th century and can’t figure out how to upload the story

Well given that no-one has actually seen this documentary a lot of opinions are being assumed about it & what it proves & doesn't.

hihelenhi · 16/09/2023 20:57

Well, one thing we can probably agree on is that a 90 minute runtime suggests there's gonna be quite a bit of evidence...

A lot of posters seem to be hard done by that this story isn't big enough, but let me tell you, rape is a very big deal.

If this were true then we'd have a news-breaking Dispatches every night of the week about rape.

JFC.

Again, and I will keep going with this, an influential man who has a large following is being accused of being a serial rapist. It’s a pretty big story. But nonetheless, every single rape should be treated thus. If every time we hear about rapes we shrug our shoulders and say it isn’t a big deal, the rapists are better positioned to continue getting away with it.

if we make a big deal out of rapes, give them the attention they deserve, more victims will come forward, more convictions may be possible, more women may be believed, more men may not continue to get away with it.

Glinner is a class A dick. He should shut up his views on gender are massively lacking in imagination & knowledge

His 'views' are the same as most people's - and were universally accepted as facts until the last decade or so.

It's very sad that people (usually with an agenda) choose to twist his tireless campaigning against very prevalent gynophobia into some kind of imaginary 'anti-trans' obsession.

Absolutely

It’s possible the women didn’t feel able to go to the police. Or they did and weren’t believed or there wasn’t enough evidence, or they were scared of the brutality of the justice system or they were scared of him. It’s beyond naive to think that ‘going to the police’ often ends well for rape victims. The Times article said that the women don’t know each other. Some were scared of losing their jobs.

Honestly, it’s not rocket science to think this through.

I'm saying that if there was evidence they would have arrested. At least one went to the police & I think there just wasn't the evidence (personal opinion only) which is why they're doing this program.
RB states that this is to shut him up, the higher ups are threatened by him in some way & want to shut his channels down.

OneFrenchEgg · 16/09/2023 21:01

Who is watching? I've just turned over.

Furryrug · 16/09/2023 21:02

I'm watching

madameMscastle · 16/09/2023 21:02

my sky has changed the program name from dispatches to Russell Brand in plain sight. when did that happen.

I completely understand why these women did not go to the police at the time or afterwards, for all the reasons mentioned.

However, for the media to break this story so sensationally without any of the alleged victims going to the police at this point seems unjust and unwise.

It also makes the possibility of securing convictions for any alleged crimes less likely because of reporting that is potentially in contempt of court. This sort of investigative journalism succeeds in ruining careers but does not help to secure convictions. If the victims don’t go to the police at this point then nothing can be done except a swift ‘cancelling’.

Whether RB is guilty or not, the way our media is increasingly doing this to high profile celebrities is worrying. And I don’t think it does the victims of sexual crimes any favours at all.

It's not supporting women he's trying to platform himself, he's doing it because he hates transgender people. It's about personal prejudice.
But I guess we don't all have the same opinion which is fine

How many fucking times do we have to hear this sad bullshit? No-one "hates transgender people", but transwomen cannot expect to be welcomed into hard fought for safe spaces for women and girls. It is a safeguarding issue, and speaking as someone who spends a lot of time in a men's prison, there is no way on Earth I would accept a transman in one. They wouldn't last five minutes because guess what? Some men use their dicks as weapons

Furryrug · 16/09/2023 21:03

thatsnotmywean · 16/09/2023 15:57

The OP should change the thread title, cause what's a bigger news story this year than the Coronation?

Fucking Russell Brand? Yeah right.

Some of us gave absolutely no fucks about the coronation.

PamelaAndreaGryglaszewska · 16/09/2023 21:03

I'm watching for the Channel 4 cognitive dissonance in how they played an integral part of making RB a global star.

Journalists have spent three years investigating him in order to ‘shut him up’ now? I doubt anyone is worried about what Russell Brand pontificates on? It’s almost mainstream conspiracy theory drivel now right?

OvaHere · 16/09/2023 21:08

I think we might see a lot more women come forward on the back of this investigation and program.

EsmaCannonball · 16/09/2023 21:09

The question shouldn't be 'Why didn't these women report him before?' It should be 'Why didn't Channel 4 and other media organisations do something about this when he was one of their darlings?' It makes me wonder who is being employed by media and arts organisations now and is being enabled in this behaviour.

Well, quite. I think this should be the story. Why were they going round saying 'Dont go near Russell'. They clearly knew what was going on but decided not to give him a bollocking or sack him for workplace harrassment. Maybe if they had not indulged him in the first place his career would not have taken off.

OneFrenchEgg · 16/09/2023 21:16

I'd forgotten how weird his hair and look was. It became less so as he got more well known.
Mad how much like Saville his humour is.

pickyourown · 16/09/2023 21:18

This is depressing. Is there anywhere where this shit isn’t happening???
What a vile human being. Feel sorry for his kids.

I8toys · 16/09/2023 21:21

Does anyone think its a bit weird that its announced there's a programme on Channel 4 that's been in the making for a few years. Very strange.

Schoojumperx · 16/09/2023 21:21

I believe them. I've known people like him. Fucking bastard.

NoNotHimTheOtherOne · 16/09/2023 21:22

From first thread...

FatOaf as you don't watch TV you won't understand that Despatches doesn't generally deal in tawdry celeb stories. This might be something with a political slant, I reckon. Maybe involving Johnson.

@iclaudine - Well, no. It isn't. It's a story about a showbiz nonentity (aka "celebrity"), as predicted.

Itsrainingshessnoring · 16/09/2023 21:23

What was the Bob Geldof thing all about??

dottyshihtzu · 16/09/2023 21:23

RB states that this is to shut him up, the higher ups are threatened by him in some way & want to shut his channels down.

So in 2012, a woman sends a 'no means no' text to him and gets a 'sorry' from him in response, she goes and has an intimate medical examination, has her underwear and other samples frozen as evidence, spends 5 months in therapy...and she does all of that as part of a cunning plan to team up with the Times and Channel 4 in 2023 to bring him down because they feel threatened by him making YouTube videos in what looks like his garden shed?

Come on.
