Apparently the biggest news story of the year is going to break over the weekend

It’s all overTwitter, or X as it’s now called. One of the Sunday papers is working on a massive story and all staff weekend leave has been cancelled. Channel 4 is showing an episode of ‘Dispatches’ tomorrow night at 9pm but haven’t said what it’s about and lots of people are putting two and two together and saying it’s in conjunction with the following days papers.

Who really cares about the private life of some comedian?

VegetablesFightingToReclaimTheAubergieneEmoji · 15/09/2023 14:25

apparently It’s the times running it on Sunday. So it’s sounding bigger than a c list celeb

Really? Almost 3000 people have just been killed in Morocco, and 11000 confirmed - but possibly up to 30000 - dead in Libya following catastrophic events; as well as all sorts of other things happening in the world, and a breakfast TV presenter's alleged naughtiness is the news story of the year?

I despair of people's priorities these days.

Agreed, not to mention the government of Niger being overthrown and weakening stability in the whole Sahel. Celebrity shenanigans barely qualifies as news let alone the biggest story of the year.

Hiddendoor · 15/09/2023 14:25

I've read my popbitch mail and had the sudden realisation that I've been subscribed for about 20 years now. Maybe more? Shocking. But funny.

But I still can't figure out any of the mystery hints.

squareyedannie · 15/09/2023 14:26

We finally have evidence that David Icke is right?

MR TUMBLE IN TUMBLE WITH MELANIA TRUMP - SAYS IT WAS SOMETHING SPECIAL

IcedPurple · 15/09/2023 14:28

Is it news news?

Or celebrity scandal news?

Does the times do celeb scandal?

If it's Savile level, then yes. :(

I don't know if it is Savile level, btw.

saraclara · 15/09/2023 14:29

A celebrity scandal is going to be the biggest news story of the year?

If only that was the state of the world. Sadly there are far more important things in the news.

Arabels · 15/09/2023 14:29

HuwEdwardsBottom · 15/09/2023 13:55

Lots of people are speculating. I saw someone suggest it had something to with with a comedian/s. No they didn’t name them though.

Fiver on David Williams if so

If the 'celeb' in question were important enough, maybe?

I always knew Bagpuss was a wrong 'un

Maybe he’s been caught selling weed to the Mice on the Mouse Organ? 🤔

SomeCatFromJapan · 15/09/2023 14:30

If it's celeb scandal I don't think it's that interesting. Something political would be.

Could be a #MeToo type scandal in the political world? I’m always more surprised when MP’s don’t cheat on their partners!

Dispatches is a serious and well respected current affairs programme. I doubt they would devote a 90 minute special to celebrity shagging or rehashing Schofield's questionable but legal goings on with an intern. Or a comedian being a bit of a perv. And even if it was as serious as Savile, if it's somebody still alive they couldn't reveal much as it might prejudice legal proceedings.

fiddlesticksandotherwords · 15/09/2023 14:31

Don't tell me they've given Nadine Dorries a peerage after all...

handslikecowstits · 15/09/2023 14:31

If it's a 90 minute programme on C4 at 9pm on a Saturday night, then I'd say it's pretty big.

yogasaurus · 15/09/2023 14:31

Arabels · 15/09/2023 14:29

This was my first thought too.

Twitter/X seems to think it’s a fairly high profile politician though

ICanBuyMyOwnBooks · 15/09/2023 14:31

Surely it's more likely to be political since The Sunday Times is running it? Unless it's another massive BBC/Saville type scandal, the ST would run that too.
They'd also run anything on Boris. Most of their readership detested him.

Yeah.

IClaudine · 15/09/2023 14:32

If it is a celeb scandal, I bet it is a very well known children's author and comedian.

Jaemoon · 15/09/2023 14:33

I predict it will be that I finally hoovered the house after 5 weeks Blush
