Apparently the biggest news story of the year is going to break over the weekend

It’s all overTwitter, or X as it’s now called. One of the Sunday papers is working on a massive story and all staff weekend leave has been cancelled. Channel 4 is showing an episode of ‘Dispatches’ tomorrow night at 9pm but haven’t said what it’s about and lots of people are putting two and two together and saying it’s in conjunction with the following days papers.

No, SC as in Linton travel tavern.

Thanks, that’s disappointing if true.

sep135 · 15/09/2023 21:03

SC as in X factor? That wouldn't surprise me at all.

It's been widely speculated that SC has some fairly niche tastes, protected by paying off the other parties handsomely. But I don't get sleazy abusing my position vibes from him.

Oh fuck, please let it not be him!

It's apparently the culmination of a 3 year joint investigation by The Sunday Times and Channel 4. The Sunday Times Insights team are proper old-fashioned investigative journalists. It must be something serious I would have thought.

Sounds about right.

sep135 · 15/09/2023 21:04

Sorry, crossed post. The other SC wouldn't surprise me but as PPs have said, not really newsworthy on this level.

Ozgirl75 · 15/09/2023 21:05

Surely Dispatches wouldn’t lower themselves to celebrity tattle, however salacious.

Spectre8 · 15/09/2023 21:05

Maybe something to do with chinese spies.. article recently about that recently

I'm still laughing jays!! Fucking love a fellow Scotland dweller keeping it fucking real!! No tolerance for bullshit🤣🤣🤣 and all done with humour of course! Best fucking comeback ever.. you should go on dragons den wi that giant eco friendly egg timer..make enough money for a new carrier bag or 2 🤣🤣

Oh that’s so funny! It was heartfelt at the time! 😂 Us Scottish folk have enough to deal with just trying not to die! My old carrier bag, it’ll outlive me!

ChickenShedLife · 15/09/2023 21:06

Hugh Jackman and his wife have just announced they’re splitting up…

TroglodytesTroglodytes · 15/09/2023 21:06

Just speculating, I’m wondering now if RB or other high profile comedians have infected victims with HIV/hepatitis or something? Probably been with 100s of people. It could be quite a traumatic watch.

Isn't he also playing Jimmy Saville in a series scheduled for this Autumn? Life imitating art imitating life!

PeskyRooks · 15/09/2023 21:07

If it is something to do with David Walliams the impact on World Book Day is going to be huge! 🤣

Hmm I think they definitely would.

GoodOldEmmaNess · 15/09/2023 21:07

Not a lawyer, but I'm sure that any hint that is heavy enough to succeed would also be too heavy to protect against a libel acusation?

If it is about the comedy circuit then I imagine it would be about how the industry as a whole has protected predators and enabled cover-ups. That would fit with Popbitch saying it opens up a whole new #metoo front.

I don't count that as celebrity tattle, any more than I count the Harvey Weinstein case as celebrity tattle.

No one would have believed in the early years of the 21st century that our world was being watched by intelligences greater than our own; that as men busied themselves about their various concerns, they observed and studied, the way a man with a microscope might scrutinize the creatures that swarm and ...

I read this with War of the Worlds soundtrack in my head, thank you.

That still makes all the hairs on the back of my neck stand up...

SheSaidHummingbird · 15/09/2023 21:11

@ChickenShedLife Well that's it, then. Case closed.

Sureaseggs44 · 15/09/2023 21:13

Unless it’s a cover up and it’s moonbump ?

Ozgirl75 · 15/09/2023 21:16

Maybe I’m just a cynical bitch but I can’t see the story “slimy, creepy seeming comedians were letching at women and some people covered it up” being that much of a shocker to be honest.

Ozgirl75 · 15/09/2023 21:17

Sorry, maybe it’s more than letching, but nothing public men do comes as a surprise to me.

IClaudine · 15/09/2023 21:17

I am starting to think pp might be right, and this is a set up by C4 to demonstrate how rumours start on SM etc and how the public can be manipulated.

What is Linton travel tavern?

HowDoesThisWorkPlease · 15/09/2023 21:18

Is Dispatches on Sat night or Sun night?

Ozgirl75 · 15/09/2023 21:17

Sorry, maybe it’s more than letching, but nothing public men do comes as a surprise to me.

Me neither. Maybe if the Archbishop of Canterbury was caught in an S&M dungeon snorting coke off a man's arse, but that's about it.
