Apparently the biggest news story of the year is going to break over the weekend

It’s all overTwitter, or X as it’s now called. One of the Sunday papers is working on a massive story and all staff weekend leave has been cancelled. Channel 4 is showing an episode of ‘Dispatches’ tomorrow night at 9pm but haven’t said what it’s about and lots of people are putting two and two together and saying it’s in conjunction with the following days papers.

Well it's about time that story came out......

There has been a lot going around on instagram and TikTok about the ex-boxer Amir Khan grooming vulnerable women and both he and his wife threatening them. I heard the audio notes on instagram and they were horrific.

Isnt that already in the public eye. Why would there need to be a 90 minute programme on it by a programme who normally discloses political or economic exposes or discussions

slobro · 15/09/2023 20:45

Willmafrockfit · 15/09/2023 20:44

not sure if anyone else has seen but Fern whatshername has tweeted she wont be home to watch

Who?!

illiterato · 15/09/2023 20:42

The hype is too great now. Even if Prince William has been bumming Russell brand in the House of Commons whilst Hugh bonneville watches and posts it on pornhub I’m gonna be disappointed

seriously though, I can’t see a 90 minute dispatches special being about just someone getting caught with their pants down or even allegations of sexual harassment/ grooming by an individual. I mean loads of footballers have been arrested for rape and they didn’t make documentaries about them. Either it’s super bad ( child sex ring featuring celebs) or it’s more of a political thing ( Boris and the Russians/ Chinese/ insert other political baddie here).

This is very true

It would be incredibly 'meta' (real meta not the company) if it was about how rumours spread online and innocent names get exposed - with this thread and tweets on X and all the other online stories used to show how swiftly this can happen.

KGM posting and removing a tweet could easily suggest this. He's too smart to be caught out by posting something he shouldn't especially about Dispatches.

I read something earlier about it being “edited right up to the last minute”, could be a very clever and interesting look at cancel culture, false accusations, etc. I’m not sure that would meet the despatches/Times expose requirements though, unless they were reporting a spate of people taking their lives or something.

Id suggest the 90 min thing could be about quantity rather than how “big” it is - an institutional scandal with half a dozen big celebs would be around 15 mins on each.

smooththecat · 15/09/2023 20:48

My money is on something to do with Russia and the whole Londongrad situation.

Bluewitch · 15/09/2023 20:48

I am poorly at the moment so this is providing me with much-needed distraction....

So Twitter seems to think it involves comedians, including RB and DW.

I assume that a full on special could mean that they have material on several dodgy comedians, rather than just one individual, and maybe some kind of cover up by one or more TV or radio station that employs/employed them or other presenters who knew what was going on and said nothing?

There have been so many rumours about RB and DW that I assume nobody would be surprised that there might be some truth in these rumours...

Guineapig123 · 15/09/2023 20:48

I cba to rtft (sorry) but I do know who at least 2 of the celebs are, both slimy AF….
not sure if we are allowed to name but assume not so will just say one may have been married to Orlando Blooms wife and the other got booted off BGT

I agree - celebrities being sex pests is not shocking or scandalous anymore, and certainly wouldn't warrant a 90 minute programme.
Plus they didn't do this for Huw Edwards or Philip Schofield - looking at the Dispatches website, the topics they focus on are usually serious/ political. They won't waste their time with celebrity fluff unless it's really bad.

Igotjelly · 15/09/2023 20:49

Very curious to know what it is, although frankly I struggle to see how it could be more important than the many other stories already this year (15k+ people dead in Libya and 3000ish in Morocco).

Willmafrockfit · 15/09/2023 20:49

Fern Brady, scottish comedian

Sorry to say I’m in Paris tomorrow night and not watching Dispatches on C4 in the UK at 9pm.

StBrides · 15/09/2023 20:49

UsernameNotAvailableNow · 15/09/2023 20:26

I’m now wondering what the accusations were agains DJ as I’ve not heard them before.

I hope it’s the Royals disbanding personally.

He once rented a property out to people who knew who used to commit in sex crimes, there's no evidence at all he had any knowledge of it but has been tarred by association.
He also did an interview not that long ago where he basically admitted to being something of a sex pest to women he worked with - as per many men of his generation. We wouldn't stand for it now (thankfully).

(well, I hope we wouldn't anyway)

There haven't been accusations of anything.

Bluewitch · 15/09/2023 20:50

Rather than comedians, I wish it could be something enormous about Sunak and that we could see the back of this vile government but that might just be wishful thinking...

diddl · 15/09/2023 20:50

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 15/09/2023 20:39

Hope that's not a hint about David Mitchell (Upstart Crow)

KGM's tweet also said "Something's Up".

Wonder if that meant anything?

The Upstart Crow reminded me

Royalsrumbled · 15/09/2023 20:51

It hasn't been given any real airtime and it runs much deeper than the 'sexting' that was previously put out in the media so I thought it might be a big story given the way other abuse rings are reported. The videos about it are continuously taken down and there was a girl who was suicidal and making a public plea after being targeted by Amir Khan and his wife yet I haven't seen anything about that in the mainstream media. In fact he was on a publicity tour this week and featured on ITV and BBC whilst this was going on.

OnedayIwillfeelfree · 15/09/2023 20:51

In a parallel scenario to the Jimmy Saville debacle, there is a celebrity who is talked about in the entertainment industry like Saville was, in very hushed tones. From being very popular some time back, this person has become too hot to handle, and has not been given any roles/shows for a long long time. Unless a victim comes forward, that’s all that ‘rumours’ can be. No one can point the finger without proof. I hope it is the person I’m referring to. There are just too many ‘stories’ for it all to be gossip.

IClaudine · 15/09/2023 20:51

Maybe the Mirror has been fed false information to stop the real story leaking? It can't just be about a celeb being dodgy. Unless there are links to bigger fish and wider implications?

If it's another institutional cover-up, especially another one at the BBC, then it would be both serious and political.

Angrycat2768 · 15/09/2023 20:52

It's apparently the culmination of a 3 year joint investigation by The Sunday Times and Channel 4. The Sunday Times Insights team are proper old-fashioned investigative journalists. It must be something serious I would have thought.

Canyoudigityesyoucan · 15/09/2023 20:52

Friend of a friend in the media has suggested it’s further and more damning revelations about Schofield

LondonMummer · 15/09/2023 20:52

@Approaching this is what I mean, see my earlier posts. I think this thread and all the others like it IS the story. It's a very Channel 4 stunt to pull (I used to work there)

BBno4 · 15/09/2023 20:52

I heard it was Hugh Jackman

Escapefromhell · 15/09/2023 20:52

I think it will be a revelation that aliens have landed.

May be aliens bumming comedians and posting it on porn hub as they examine and toy with humanity.

Didn't RB become tee-total and celibate? I may have imagined that!
