Pretty sure the Evri courier has stolen money from me…

I made an agreement with the dustbin cleaner that I would leave his money on top of the gas box because I’m usually out when he comes. For whatever reason he just hasn’t been taking the money lately, almost as though he’s altruistically cleaning my dustbin! I felt very guilty about it so today I made sure to stick a note on the side door letting him know the money was there. It was £12.50, a £10 note and £2.50 in coins which I placed on top of the note to weight it down and I also placed two small pebbles either side of the note for further weight. It isn’t windy here today anyway fwiw, checked my weather app and it’s 6mph so barely anything.

The note hasn’t blown away basically and the coins are still in situ, as are the pebbles but the note has gone. I have a ring doorbell so can see exactly who enters my driveway and the only person who has today so far since I placed the money there is the Evri delivery driver. He went around the back of the house to deliver the parcel to my shed so will have seen both the note on the side door as well as the money on the gas box as he walked past. It can’t be anyone else at all, no one else has access to this area without passing my doorbell and as I say, he’s the only person who has.

I’m really angry about it. I contacted Evri but it’s just a robot who promised someone will get back to me about it, not hopeful about that! Is there anything else I can realistically do? I know I can’t get the money back and I’ll have to find somewhere else to bloody leave it in future. I live in a trustworthy area so honestly had no qualms about leaving the money there. We had the same Evri courier for years who was great but he recently moved areas and the new guy just hasn’t been very good for a few reasons. Didn’t expect he’d steal from me though!

Without CCTV evidence you can't prove it was the delivery driver. Can your bin cleaner come and collect the money during the evening, this is what our window cleaner does if we're not in.

Blossomandbee · 14/09/2023 13:29

Any neighbours with a ring doorbell or similar that might have filmed from a different angle? No chance the bin guy took the note but left the coins?
Without proof there's nothing really you or Evri can do unfortunately.

rwalker · 14/09/2023 13:34

That’s a big accusation without proof

2PintsOfCidernaBagofCrisps · 14/09/2023 13:36

My only thought here is: what a silly thing to do.

peachgreen · 14/09/2023 13:36

You have no proof and I’m afraid the response of Evri – and most people, tbh – will be that it’s a bit of a daft way to pay someone!

Dutchesss · 14/09/2023 13:39

You can't be 100% sure though; a crow could have taken it if it was shining or a squirrel for bedding material. Do a bank transfer in future.

the80sweregreat · 14/09/2023 13:46

I pay my bin cleaner man by bank transfer
Could this work for you ? Or is he strictly cash only ?
I'm sure Evri won't be interested tbh ( I know it's annoying ) but good luck trying to get through to them.

Does an envelope with notes in appear shiny to a crow? Grin

MrsSamR · 14/09/2023 13:57

I'm so confused...what is a bin cleaner? I mean, it's self explanatory, but is that really a thing?! misses point of thread

Dutchesss · 14/09/2023 14:01

I don't think the note was in an envelope. I guess it's unlikely but crows have stolen things before. 😁

the80sweregreat · 14/09/2023 14:05

My bin cleaner man is lovely. He has it set up in the back of a van with water / cleaner etc. takes about ten minutes or so.
It's only the green bin , but he cleans it once a month , he does a great job and it sparkles.

Evrilittlehelps · 14/09/2023 14:06

You can’t access the gas box without passing my ring doorbell. I put the money out at 8.30am, returned briefly at 9 am after dropping DC at school to collect something and I moved the recycling bin at the same time so the bin cleaner would have an easy time putting the bin back. The money was still there at 9am. Evri driver came at 11am, nobody else had entered my driveway in this time at all. I got home at lunchtime and the note was gone. There’s just no access to the gas box without passing my doorbell and between me leaving at 9am and returning at midday, the Evri driver is the only one who passed it.

A crow seems highly, highly unlikely… No CCTV so no hard evidence, just the fact it’s obviously him.

How often do you get your bins cleaned? [also missing point of thread].

Evrilittlehelps · 14/09/2023 14:07

Also the bin cleaner came about 30 mins ago and I handed him the fresh tenner I had to withdraw so it wasn’t him. I’d have seen him on the doorbell anyway…

Can your bin cleaner not take bank transfer?

Evrilittlehelps · 14/09/2023 14:08

Once a month. Leaves it smelling fresh which is great during the summer in particular.

Someone who washes your wheelie bin inside and out

Evrilittlehelps · 14/09/2023 14:08

No, it’s a cash only type thing as many things like this are.

Well and truly agreed.

the80sweregreat · 14/09/2023 14:11

I suggest people on here puzzled by our bin cleaners have a look online to see if you have such a person locally to give you a quote !
Can recommend, but then my one is great and only four pounds a bin.
There are about three companies locally to me that have rounds and they come out the same day you have the bins emptied ( usually )

Stealing the tenner or me leaving the money in my back garden?

It wasn’t out in the open for anyone to just take, it was in my back garden which is enclosed so not just anyone has access to it. I live in a small village where basically nothing exciting ever happens, ever. I’m obviously also incredibly naive and just wouldn’t expect a delivery driver to enter my back garden and steal something from me but there you go…

Leaving the money in the garden. No matter how secure you think it is, it’s just not safe. As you’ve now seen.

Oliotya · 14/09/2023 14:22

It's just as likely to have blown away
