Has this dog breed been raised at prime ministers QT? Why the fuck does nothing seem to be getting done about it?

I refer the honourable poster to the answer I gave a few minutes ago.

Suella Braverman (sorry if I spelled that wrong) just tweeted that she’s commissioned an urgent report into banning them.

ProudThrilledHappy · 10/09/2023 19:35

“The owner of the dog has been spoken to by officers”

Why hasn’t the owner been arrested? If the twats that owned these dogs were actually held accountable this would be less likely to happen. The owner of the dog that attacked the police horse in London wasn’t arrested either. It’s a joke, there needs to be severe punishments for irresponsible dog owners

FoodFann · 10/09/2023 19:39

Maybe we should all write to our MPs?
Other than that, all we can do is keep a lookout and stay well away from anything resembling a pit bull/ pitbull cross.

The police are not doing enough, these dogs should be seized immediately and owners fined for ownership.

Our Police are too soft and too scared.

megletthesecond · 10/09/2023 19:39

I mistakenly assumed something would happen pretty quickly after that police horse was attacked.

That doesn't really fill me with confidence funnily enough.

itsgettingweird · 10/09/2023 19:57

These dogs make me feel on edge whenever they are near.

I'm one for thinking it's fine dogs are allowed in shops etc but actually I left a shop last week as just couldn't relax with a bully so in the aisle with me.

Then at CP there was one sat with an owner and as people walked past it would stand and the owner would pull it back down. Again - I felt on edge.

It just seems they are always liable to attack and they don't give up once they get going.

Hope everyone involved is ok. Sad

There is no reason to own a dog like this, other than as a weapon.

Ban them IMO.

RogersOrganismicProcess · 10/09/2023 20:03

If they did actually ban them, what happens to all of the dogs already in existence?

Seychal · 10/09/2023 20:03

Humanely destroyed.

Wrapunzel · 10/09/2023 20:06

My friend was hospitalised this summer after an XL bully chased her horse and threw her Sad I use the same bridlepath to take my kids out on their ponies and between dogs and dirt bikes terrifying them I'm on edge most of the time. There's nowhere else to ride in winter, we don't have a sand school.

Iheartpizza · 10/09/2023 20:15

There's another thread going on this but I'm going to say it again.

It IS the breed. In fact the vast majority of bull breeds have no place in society imo.

This country is fucked. The government might ban them but it won't be enforced.

The owner needs a long jail sentence and that dog needs to be put down asap. They all do.

One of the articles I read said the police 'had a word' with the owner' - it's a fucking joke!!

MrsGalloway · 10/09/2023 20:25

I agree to an extent that it’s the breed but I’m not sure how effective banning is. Also agree that local government and public sector cuts in general mean there is currently no hope in hell of any effective enforcement.

I think, and I say this as a dog owner, that we need a rethink on how we deal with dogs in this country. Bluntly there are too many, there are zero controls and no enforcement. We’ve got killing machines living in houses with children and out of control on our streets.

Yep, the horse has bolted. There's no stopping it now.

I despair, I really do. I'm just thankful I have my own land so I don't have to walk my dogs in public spaces because I couldn't deal with being on edge constantly and god forbid, encountering one of these vile creatures.

itsmyp4rty · 10/09/2023 21:49

I feel bad for that dog, it looks like it thinks it's playing a game. Who knows what it's been taught by the owner.

As a breed though they should have been banned long ago.

CBAanymoreTBH · 10/09/2023 21:50

Someone must have triggered the dog/it was just looking for a child to nanny

CBAanymoreTBH · 10/09/2023 22:02

Are people also aware of these all in the past few days;

September 2nd 22 Sheep killed and farmer attacked by 2 XL bullies Yorkshire

September 4th year old mauled by bully breed in Merseyside

September 5th 10 year old mailed by XL bully Huddersfield

September 7th Man mauled by XL bully Huddersfield

CBAanymoreTBH · 10/09/2023 22:03

These dogs look like they are enjoying it because they are. It's in their genetics just as hearding is for a sheepdog. Take a moment & look on pre loved for XL bullies. This problem is only just beginning.

It's just doing what comes naturally...

BitOutOfPractice · 10/09/2023 22:59

Christ! That video is chilling.

I got laughed at by two people with a bully this week because I gave them a conspicuously wide berth. I’m glad I did now.

MintsPi · 10/09/2023 23:17

This is going to sound very harsh but if I had the money I'd buy every single one of these dogs up for sale and then euthanise each one.

I keep my wits about me and if I see one of these dogs in the distance (even on leads) I go as far away as possible even if I have to walk in completely the wrong direction. I also
refuse to be a sop anymore when it comes to the 'he's just being friendly' mob. I'm sick of putting on a smile when a dog approaches me that I don't want to interact with.

Only today there was a group of people at a children's play park with a dog off lead. They didn't notice the dogs repeated attempts to open the gate to the specific 'no dogs allowed' area until the dog managed to open the gate and I shouted to put the dog on a lead. Although this is of course a different scenario to one in the video it shows the lack of attention many dog owners have in regards to other members of the public. We need proper societal change in how dogs are expected to behave in public.

wavws · 10/09/2023 23:24

I don’t understand what the appeal is of these dogs at all. I feel like they’ve all of a sudden become really popular over the last few years? What am I missing?

FrenchieF · 10/09/2023 23:50

That dog has been taught to behave like that 😔
