Just entered a competition to win a holiday + £15k. I’ve never ever won anything decent in a competition but also rarely enter any!

anyone had any good prizes or lottery wins?

A pair of West End theatre tickets, a huge chocolate hamper, a couple of bottles of sparkling wine, a Google Home thing, a laptop. I should enter more competitions.

A stone birdbath at our village fete. It was darned heavy to lug home!

Dh won a holiday for two to Goa in a charity draw - he immediately offered it up for auction - at the time I was pissed, we hadn’t had a holiday in 5 years! 😞 it made £4000 for the charity.

We've won a wooden spoon four times in a row at our local quiz night - looking at you BiL, you're fired!

The internet/phone-ins/Instagram have pretty much killed off the type of competitions that you could count on having a good chance at winning.
And the prizes today are very meagre compared with all the holidays/cars that were standard in the past. I never won a car - but lots of holidays.

I once won 2 tickets to anywhere in the world, when I was 20 with Cadburys in the '80s You had to send a chocolate bar wrapper in (i realise I am sounding like Charlie Bucket here) and I ate plenty of them, plus picked them up on the street when others had discarded their litter. I probably entered around 30 times, and mine was picked out of 82,000 entrants. I flew to Australia with my 17 year old sister for 7 weeks. We scraped and saved for the spending money, and we were so naïve, and so young, we didn't even realise they were going to serve us with food on the plane. We got robbed once, got ripped off a few times, but it was life changing, and we still talk about it 30+ years on.

Won a new car once in a raffle.

My DH is the lucky one. He won us first class flights to the USA & a voucher for a meal for two at a posh local restaurant we'd never been to. Oh, & a big teddy which he gave to someone in the family.

Me? I seem to specialise in winning grotesque homemade arts & crafts, or less than 30 quid on the Lottery. I've tried getting him to choose numbers for the Euromillions, but he's rubbish at it.

I won a years supply of sun cream about ten years ago on Mumsnet. I live in wales Grin

OnedayIwillfeelfree · 10/10/2023 07:26

I won a years supply of lager. Which was 52 x tray of 24 large cans! Over a thousand cans, they delivered it in 2 lots!

ThreeRingCircus · 10/10/2023 07:45

I've won a Miele vacuum cleaner in a raffle and £500 on premium bonds.

Unfortun8 · 10/10/2023 13:00

A trip to Paris

EscapeTheCastle · 10/10/2023 13:17

I was thrilled to win a Converse t-shirt on opening a packet of wines gums back in the early 90's. It lasted years.

Never won anything big.
Won a case of Just Brazil chocolates.
A case of Dorset Cereal Granola which set me off on a granola obsession.
A couple of kids books that my kid didn't like.
A Steve Erwin pen which I sold on ebay. That must have been some kind of runners up prize to, I'm guessing a trip to Oz.

SinnerBoy · 10/10/2023 13:34

The biggest thing I won was a ghetto blaster, in 1987. Newcastle Brown Ale bottles had a spot the sun competition, on the bottle labels and I sent in about 80 of them. I was 17.

Nokoolaidherethanks · 10/10/2023 13:36

I won Cbeebies live meet and greet tickets on mumsnet when my kids were little. And once won the top prize in the school raffle if £150.

Happilyobtuse · 21/01/2024 21:53

Things I’ve won:
£69 on the national lottery and some smaller amounts.
Ted Baker red dress - By eating Kellogs cereal and entering competition
A blue backpack - By drinking Rubicon juice and entering competition
£200 gift card - Ask Italian restaurant for giving a good review post fabulous service at their restaurant. My name was picked from a lucky dip for all entrants who had given reviews.

I’ve won two holidays. We had a week in Tel Aviv years ago and last year DD and I went on a cruise to Antarctica which I won by simply ticking a box online in a national newspaper. This was my dream holiday and I nearly missed it because I ignored several emails saying ‘you have won’ because I thought they were a scam. It was only the last email which started ‘Are you sure you don’t want this’ that got my attention. I would love to go back but will have to win another competition to do so.

That’s not a competition, it’s a prize draw you pay to enter…..
