What food can you not stand, that ruins the whole dish?

My worst thing is tarragon. It ruins everything on the plate for me.

Raw onions
Raw tomatoes
Bell peppers of any colour (raw is the worst)
Coriander
Mayonnaise
Mustard

As a PP said, the above pretty much make it impossible for me to pick up any store bought sandwich or salad from a restaurant.

Things I like that others seem not to are

Mushrooms
Celery
Truffle
Cinnamon (the fact people don't like it really surprised me!)
Olives
Capers

banana
lemongrass
chorizo

loveclipbook · 08/09/2023 12:17

also dill

AffIt · 08/09/2023 12:20

Runny egg yolk.

It's a shame - I think the likes of Eggs Hollandaise look lovely, but the thought of cutting into a soft poached egg and yolk contaminating everything makes me shudder.

Oh gods yes, sweet in savoury dishes is the pits. Way to ruin both flavours.

I'm in this club!

Jaxhog · 08/09/2023 13:04

Celery, kiwi, and coriander. Celery makes me very sick, even just the hint of a taste. I can stand a little coriander or kiwi but will pick it out.

Aubergine. No physical reaction , but it just looks so revolting.

Caswallonthefox · 08/09/2023 13:18

Celery and cauliflower

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 08/09/2023 14:25

Ketchup

If that counts as a food

BearSoFair · 08/09/2023 15:02

Peas. If they're unavoidable in a dish I still find myself wanting to pick them all out like I did as a child!

SperaT · 08/09/2023 15:19

@Siwggy I'm also surprised that so many people don't like cinnamon. I never realised that was a thing!

Celery

Anyfeckinusername · 08/09/2023 15:19

Fucking pesto!

MaddieElla · 08/09/2023 15:34

Peas in a paella. Looks good but just stop it.

ClaraBourne · 08/09/2023 15:39

@QuestionableMouse @Judgedbycats Hating corinader is a genetic thing, your genes actually make it taste like soap.

@Tarkan Agreed, why ruin lamb with mint, totally overpowers it.

Tell restaurants you are allergic.

TheWayofBeing · 08/09/2023 15:40

Truffle. Even a smidge makes everything taste of dirt.

TheWayofBeing · 08/09/2023 15:43

LordSalem · 08/09/2023 00:56

@sezzer87 Nope. Not at all. I've been like this for 19 years. I’m just fine and functional day to day. I only need one small meal a day.
I have no health problems. I’m just very short and naturally skinny. Healthy long hair, good skin and teeth. Baby face to boot. I think I’m just a lucky bugger.

I don't think you're naturally skinny if you only eat one small meal a day... that's not enough food.

Ihateboris · 08/09/2023 15:45

Sun-dried tomatoes 🍅

limitedperiodonly · 08/09/2023 15:47

beetroot
oysters
avocado
rosemary
halva
tripe

UnaOfStormhold · 08/09/2023 15:58

Raw onion
Blue cheese
Desecrated coconut (my personal name for it)
Dill

I love sweet and savoury combinations, as well as coriander, mushroom, banana, garlic and most other things on here.

BasiliskStare · 08/09/2023 16:10

Liver or Kidneys - Jut no. Yet my friend loves them.

I will pretty much eat everything else & I love sun dried tomatoes and basil. also a bit of raw celery dipped in salt and a bit of mayonnaise Is quite nice. Each to their own 😁

101jobs · 08/09/2023 16:17

Passion Fruit 🤮
Clove 🤮
Cardamom 🤮

bringonyourwreckingball · 08/09/2023 16:30

Coconut but then I used to be allergic - still makes me gag

NumberFortyNorhamGardens · 08/09/2023 21:26

Pearl barley. It’s the gristly texture. Speaking of which, if the meat isn’t properly trimmed in a stew and you get a lump of gristle or slimy fat, that’s gag-inducing.

And chilli; my spice tolerance is decent but my DH is a complete chilli fiend (will happily crunch bird eye chillies raw) and God help me if I get some of his curry by mistake.

KMA2023 · 09/09/2023 00:02

Love coriander, capers and chillies

Hate celery, what an awful flavour.
Also courgettes and anything scooped from a shell.
Only good use for an olive is in a martini.

Elly46 · 09/09/2023 07:35

Cinnamon. It spoils good pastry and everything it touches. Yuck
