Chocolate brands that taste like they used to.

Not sure if it's the palm oil or what, but most chocolate tastes awful these days. Maybe vomit isn't the right word to describe it, but that's what it reminds me of. Cadburys, Galaxy even Yorkie all have that taste and waxy texture now.

I know Tony Chocoloney and Green and Blacks are still ok but they are so expensive! Are there any cheap choc brands out there that taste nice. Even Milka is horrible now!

Hi op this is a good idea

I think we need a definitive choclate thread.

dullandgrey · 07/09/2023 21:08

Freddos taste like the old dairy milk, weirdly enough.

Daisychainsandglitter · 07/09/2023 21:12

So do the cadburys little bars.

I like the own brand lidl organic chocolate, can't quite remember the name but comes in a big bar, about 100g.

beeny · 07/09/2023 21:15

Yes just recently realised this about Freddos and it made me very happy !

GoogleWhacked · 07/09/2023 21:16

It's called Way To Go, and sorry it's not organic it's Fair Trade.

jusdepamplemousse · 07/09/2023 21:18

Aldi do something called monsieur choc or something like that - I think it’s pretty decent for price. But I’m not a connoisseur- I can still manage to eat cadburys and galaxy pretty fine 😂

PrincessHoneysuckle · 07/09/2023 21:22

Twirls still taste like cadburys

Amethystanddiamonds · 07/09/2023 21:23

Try getting supermarket own. Tastes much better than the likes of cadburys and galaxy. I used to love cadburys whole nut but it's far too sweet for me now, whereas Tesco or Sainsbury's is still nice enough but obviously not as good as Tony's.

WildFlowerBees · 07/09/2023 21:29

Why hasn't a chocolate company started up and resurrected the chocolate of ye olden times? They'd make a fortune.

SoftSheen · 07/09/2023 21:33

Waitrose own brand is actually very good quality for the price (£2 for 180 G).

Daniki · 07/09/2023 23:39

I know this sounds stupid but galaxy wise I find there is a different taste in the massive share size one and the normal size ones 😂 Aldi own brand chocolate is good, dairyfine I think it's called, they do blocks of chocolate similar to the dairy milk range
Twirls are good and also malteasers in the box 🤷‍♀️

SirVixofVixHall · 07/09/2023 23:42

Montezuma is good, the chocolate buttons are great.

Loopytiles · 07/09/2023 23:43

Great thread! Delighted about the Freddos

Crinkle77 · 07/09/2023 23:49

OP even some of the Green and Blacks bars have palm oil in now! I might have to try Tony's. I saw it in the shop but didn't bother buying it as it was expensive but might give it a go after seeing it recommended here.

Halfemptyhalfling · 07/09/2023 23:51

Toblerone still tastes good even though not made in Switzerland

Flakes and twirls taste bitter now

FoghornUnicorn · 07/09/2023 23:54

Nestle Crunch is still good shit.

HRTQueen · 08/09/2023 00:00

FoghornUnicorn · 07/09/2023 23:54

Nestle Crunch is still good shit.

I was thinking the same 😊

I think Milka is still lovely and Lindt bunnies

M&S Swiss chocolate is stlll really nice it’s very creamy

Gowlett · 08/09/2023 00:41

Twirl & Flake are made with chocolate crumb, in order that get the texture. That’s why they taste better.

Had a Mars Bar recently, it was horrible! And a KitKat was crap too, no snap or crunch. Bounty is not bad.

M&S Swiss Mountain Bar is better than Toblerone. Magnums aren’t what they used to be either, and the price!

Cadburysucks · 08/09/2023 00:57

Morrisons own brand milk choc with hazelnut, lovely.

Epicstorm · 08/09/2023 01:09

I’ve just left a packet of Munchies as they taste awful. Over the past few weeks I’ve had Maltesers, a Caramel and a Dairy Milk- all awful.

crispie33 · 08/09/2023 01:45

Lower sugar dairy milk tastes like old dairy milk to me but they barely sell it anywhere. Even my husband said the same before I told him I thought so too

Mystro202 · 08/09/2023 02:34

Aero seems to be the only one that tastes the same to me
The rest is tasteless!! Might help with my diet though lol

FatherJackHackettsUnderpantsHamper · 08/09/2023 03:04

So do the cadburys little bars.

How little are we talking? These were amazing - do they even make them at all anymore?!
