Chocolate brands that taste like they used to.

Not sure if it's the palm oil or what, but most chocolate tastes awful these days. Maybe vomit isn't the right word to describe it, but that's what it reminds me of. Cadburys, Galaxy even Yorkie all have that taste and waxy texture now.

I know Tony Chocoloney and Green and Blacks are still ok but they are so expensive! Are there any cheap choc brands out there that taste nice. Even Milka is horrible now!

I was told that the regular, eight-square bars are still made in Coolock, but the larger bars and boxes are made elsewhere. My extensive taste testing suggests this is probably true. I only buy the eight-square bars now; they still taste lovely and creamy, whereas the larger bars seem tasteless and waxy to me.

That's interesting @SoftDay.
I might have to do a taste test! I never buy the 8 square bar because of the price; €1.40 or more for a single bar when you can buy the multipack for €1.50 or €2. Although those multipack bars are getting smaller and smaller!!

If a Cadbury bar has the code OCO on it, the bar has been made in Coolock.

Ritter Sport is delicious, especially the Alpine milk one.
Lidl Fin Carré, about 60p/100g, is good too. And their big bite fruit and nut. Just discovered the joys of the Lidl Neo cookies and cream...

IHeartGeneHunt · 05/10/2023 20:04

Lidl Fin Carre with the caramelised almonds is honestly beautiful!

2nd agree on the Cadbury Little Bars, something about them, they are much nicer than a normal bar..

Isnt Cadbury made in Kerry too in Rathmore? Possibly gone.
All Irish chocolate, like the bars with the straight edge corners, like Golden Crisp, Fruit and Nut, Tiffin, is good. I think these are all Irish made. Anything with a round corner, like Caramel, some Dairy Milks (the longs bars), appear to be bad and oily.
That's my expert opinion!

Where is all this chocolate that tastes like shit?!?

Any chocolate i get my hands on tastes bloody lovely and my hips will testify to that

Irish Cadburys Turkish Delight is amazing 😍

I still love Milka too. My Aunt who brought me up has dementia and is in a nursing home, she doesn't have a clue who I am, her wee face lights up when I produce the Milka bar from my handbag in our weekly visit though 😂

Thank You everyone for this info...I was in Germany very recently and I'm kicking myself for not trying more chocolates! I DID however try Lintd's while there, and they are closest to the "old" Cadbury. It's a darn shame that Cadbury Sold Out. I bought some upon my return back to The States and I was SO disappointed that I wanted to cry. Tastes like Hershey's now! 😡 Cadbury Milk was always my "Go To"...and it was so easy to get...just walk on over to Walgreens or hit the candy aisle in ShopRite, and Voila!!! 😔

Cadburys Freddos, Little One, Wispa and Twirl all taste almost like the old Dairy Milk.

Marabou milk chocolate is the best. Swedish brand but available from Amazon/Ocado/Swedish Kitchen. Used to be stocked by IKEA, but they e replaced it with their own awful chocolate now Sad
