How many kids do you have and would you have that number again if you could turn back time?

I’m not asking if you’d have your actual kids with their identities again. But would you have the same number again if you could start your family from scratch?

I have one and love having one. She’s only five though so my views could change

I have a singleton and then twins. It’s hard going and I am worn out. I think sticking with one would’ve been better for us.

Same here! My eldest was 2 when I the twins...10 years later its getting easier, but so much stuff is geared up to families of 4....

Feebleexcuses · 05/09/2023 13:05

I have 4. Happy with 4.

Tessabelle74 · 05/09/2023 13:08

I have 4. The last was a surprise and as there's 5 years between her and number 3, I'd have had another so she had a closer sibling to play with but age was against me so she's the baby. I'd accepted I wouldn't have kids of my own by the time I met my husband so to have 4 is a massive blessing and I wouldn't change it

I would only have one if I could do it again. It makes more sense to set up one child for success with all resources channeled towards them.

EffortlessDesmond · 05/09/2023 13:10

I have one, born just before my 43rd birthday. Would not change a thing.

frozendaisy · 05/09/2023 13:11

2 can only afford 2
But saying that everything else aside would still have 2

hot2trotter · 05/09/2023 13:12

I have 4. I look back to the time of when I just had 2 as being the happiest of my life, so I probably would stick with 2. I obviously don't regret my youngest two though (even though my third gives the devil a run for his money).
I could never have had just the one, so two is the "ideal" to me.

applecharlotte12 · 05/09/2023 13:12

1 and 1 too. Perfect for me!

dontyouworryboutathing · 05/09/2023 13:15

I have three. Happy with three.

Had I realised how much I'd enjoyed motherhood I wish I'd had them sooner.

I had them aged 33, 35 and 38. I think aged 28, 30 and 32 would have been much better. But then our work and housing situation was more precarious at that time.

phewgal · 05/09/2023 13:17

One and done - very happy with this

Fallingthroughclouds · 05/09/2023 13:20

I have 1, we live in a very rural area with a tiny school. She's lonely and would have loved a sibling 😔

LaffTaff · 05/09/2023 13:21

Just the one! A girl (13yo). Never wanted any more than her 😊

LoveRules · 05/09/2023 13:21

I wouldn't have twins as my first at age 31 again but v glad we braved bringing their younger sister into the world 5 years later. They are a lovely tribe.

whatthejuice · 05/09/2023 13:21

I have 2 - and feel very happy and lucky with that. Would've had them a couple of years younger if being picky but that's about all I'd change (conceived at 31 and 34

Fixyourself · 05/09/2023 13:32

3 and would of had 4 easily

Baneofmyexistence · 05/09/2023 13:33

I have 3 but would have had 1 or 2 if I could have chosen (I had twins second pregnancy so not much choice about having 3!)

Bentoforthehorde · 05/09/2023 13:40
  1. Would have 4 again.
If finances/personal circumstances/births were different I would have probably had 6.

Previous question about rooms, ours share.
DC1 and DC2 had their own rooms until DC2 was 6 but they wouldn't stay in their own rooms. They are a bit like a pack, even as teens etc they don't generally seek out their own space. If we had 5 bedrooms I think they would choose shared rooms with communal spaces/games rooms.
We are very lucky. I imagine life would be quite different if they didn't choose to spend time together.

Allwelcone · 05/09/2023 13:46

I have noticed when I say I have 4 in my current frontline role which deals with people on benefits that I get gasps of horror so much so that I try not to say unless asked directly.
Just about to move to a job where I think its more professional and posh, when pushed on my trial day I said I had 4 and no eyebrows raised at all.
So yes I guess money is a big factor. We are now quite broke obviously what either 4. 2 were oops.
I'd not do it again given the state of the world but personally I'd find an abortion an extremely hard option.

NotQuiteUsual · 05/09/2023 13:48

I have 3 I love having 3, but the world is better set up for families with 2 children so I can't deny life is easier with 2. I don't think I could manage with just 2 though. I enjoy 3 too much for the negatives to outweigh the positive.

honeyandfizz · 05/09/2023 13:49

I have two born a year apart one of each and happy with my lot.

Desecratedcoconut · 05/09/2023 13:51

I have three. I'd have had four or five if dh was game.

PerspiringElizabeth · 05/09/2023 13:52

Got 3. Would have 4 if money and house and body and patience allowed. I keep having lovely dreams about having another but my body can’t do it. The kids get on so well - ages span 7 years.

I’m going to be one of those annoying people though and say that any number is good though… had 4.5 years with just 2 kids and that was just getting to be soooo easy and fun and SIMPLE. 3 feels like a lot but number 3 is still very small here.

Also when I just had 1 kid I remember thinking I could have a perfectly fulfilled and happy and satisfied life with just him.

underneaththeash · 05/09/2023 13:52

Wanted 3, had three.

CurlewKate · 05/09/2023 13:53

I think if I'd started younger I might have had more. But I didn't want to start younger!

Piscesmumma1978 · 05/09/2023 13:53
  1. I love having 4.

I wish I'd had my older two with my current partner though. It's hard being essentially a single parent to two and not to the other two.
