I love Bali, (apart from Kuta which is like Benidorm for Australians, the temples though are amazing) Rome (for the history, so much to see! pickpockets are also a problem in a lot of big Italian cities, Naples was where we had the most recent attempt at pping), France (was in Menton recently and it was just beautiful), Santorini (absolutely nowhere like it, so incredibly beautiful but go end of May/beginning of June or it's going to be tourist rammed hell), Niagra Falls, Hoover Dam and the US cities mentioned here didn't do it for me , either, Chicago was another I didn't particularly like.

Dublin.

Like Glasgow in the early 1990s, but about a million times more expensive.

Endlesssummerof76 · 04/09/2023 19:18

New Zealand. Even after living there and travelling extensively.

Ohmylovejune · 04/09/2023 19:18

Stone henge? How can it be over rated?

Bound to be a bit of a mess by now but woooooo, the work to create it given the time it was built, surely that blows you away?

Pity Cornwall makes this list too many times. I do think it has some sort of intrigue because we are "down the end" but it's just the UK..Same weather. Just lots of coastline. But, essentially, still the UK. The intrigue should be saved for the Scillies, really. UK but a little bit different.

ActDottie · 04/09/2023 19:19

Brighton! Every said it had a Bristol vibe but to me it was just grotty and dirty

DavinaTheDreadful · 04/09/2023 19:19

I'm Irish and don't like Dublin very much either tbh.

Crikeyalmighty · 04/09/2023 19:19

I confess to enjoying LA a lot, but we go for work stuff-

Mine would be Dubai and vegas

wagnbobble · 04/09/2023 19:20

New England - once you’ve seen one covered bridge you’ve seen them all

frisseaze · 04/09/2023 19:20

Yes, Bali is not good now. I stayed there 30 years ago and it was wonderful. Like everything else, spoiled now. I didn't recognise Ubud, the wonderful sleepy place is now an international food hotspot ( I returned to check).

Niagra falls 100% like Blackpool with a waterfall

Which side were you on, USA or Canada?

Sidge · 04/09/2023 19:21

Venice.
Brighton.
Cornwall.

Likewise.
Been numerous times for business and extended trips for some R&R.
As soon as I'm not obliged to go, I'll never go there again.

ilovebagpuss · 04/09/2023 19:21

Some parts of Cornwall are over rated but there are some lovely gems too. I hate places that are becoming so busy they are like a parody of themselves.
I think Insta has ruined a lot of destinations.
I am going to to say something truly shocking and say Isle of Skye.
Low cloud, way too many campervans and even as remote as it is the few touristy destinations were heaving! Really ruined.

Nannyamc · 04/09/2023 19:21

Dublin has changed so much its just awful. Born and bred there. Give me the open road out of it. Kerry galway donegal cork ..hire a car ..great adventure. Fly into cork or shannon..its magical.

BasiliskStare · 04/09/2023 19:21

I agree with Las Vegas & San Franciso - Also Maui I thought was completely underwhelming But people love those places so each to their own.

Endlesssummerof76 · 04/09/2023 19:22

*To be fair Fiji isn’t the sort of place we’d usually be attracted to (don’t do beaches), but we were going to Australia for a few weeks and then visiting friends in NZ for a couple of days and thought it’d be a good stop off (it’s our equivalent of Spain for New Zealanders) as we knew we’d be unlikely to choose it as a holiday destination. Went somewhere recommended by NZ friends.

The ecological devastation of the island to make it a holiday destination was dreadful (e.g. removal of mangroves), although I understand that that’s now being addressed.*

Far too commercialised. I love some of the other South Pacific islands though.....Samoa, Tonga, just gorgeous.

The multiple comparisons to Blackpool in this thread have made me laugh 😅

This made me laugh too. I’ve honestly only ever been to one place I hated which was Hiaranou in Turkey and I always refer to it as ‘worse than Blackpool’. Blackpool does stink of donkey s*. Benidorm was luxurious compared.

Redlarge · 04/09/2023 19:23

New York

MNetcurtains · 04/09/2023 19:23

Mauritius.

Redlarge · 04/09/2023 19:23

Oh yeah LA too. Pretty much everywhere ive been in America wasnt amazing tbh.

LindorDoubleChoc · 04/09/2023 19:24

Surely everyone hates Dubai? I've never been there but have never read a single good thing about the place - it gets universally slated, that is my over-riding impression.

I would say Bath.

And since this year - Caleta de Fueste in Fuerteventura. I went there for an evening having read several threads on Mumsnet recommending it. It was an absolute SHIT HOLE of a horrible, grotty, tacky, awful, desolate, nasty little seaside town. Gross. So glad I wasn't staying there for the whole week.

BoobyDazzler · 04/09/2023 19:24

koh samui. Loved everywhere else in Thailand but koh samui felt like Blackpool with worse beaches.

BarelyLiterate · 04/09/2023 19:24

Paris, without a doubt. A filthy, unsafe, overpriced overrated dump of a city.

Dubrovnik, sadly. A classic example of a beautiful, historic place which has been ruined and turned into a theme park by mass tourism.

I’m going to defend Cornwall, though. It’s a county I know well and it’s really only an overcrowded nightmare in July & August. The rest of the year, it’s lovely. Even Newquay & St Ives are tolerable.

Redlarge · 04/09/2023 19:24

Ergh yeah hated Egypt

Bonjovispjs · 04/09/2023 19:24

San Francisco and Paris.
