Lucy Letby - new thread

No idea why the last one was taken down, but for anyone who wants to continue the discussion on Letby, I’m starting a new thread here.

I’m 100% sure she’s guilty, but I’m still massively struggling to comprehend why on earth she did it.

Yes, I am proud of the work I did as a former senior prosecutor (not U.K.) sometimes advising the pol!ce during complex investigations such as this and No race factor was ever involved as that would have made me a fool from the word go, as these managers have made themselves out to be fools to the whole world- imagine! Have ensured all murderers, child rapists, domestic abusers etc received the harshest sentences they could get. It’s hard work but rewarding when your efforts pay off to the last word of the pronouncement by the judge. You could punch the air!

Well done to the pol!ce- yes I can overlook that they are racist to congratulate them on a job well done when they have done well although the pol!ce paid tribute to the consultants who didn’t falter!

MH issues I think

Maybe there is no motive. Maybe it's as coleridge said about Iago: 'a motiveless malignity'. Maybe she just did it because she could.

Similar impulse to anyone who does something, gets away with it, then does it again. Not saying that people who have affairs are killers or psychopaths, but often do we read on here off people who keep on having affairs? They manage to compartmentalise and keep doing it until they get caught

That’s the conclusion I’ve come to. It’s senseless.

Back before the trial started and we didn't have much info to go on and a lot of us were leaning innocent because little evidence had been released there was a list of baby deaths on the unit for the year. I "only" remember there being 7 or 8 a year (up from 2 or 3 average before 2015) those two years in question. I remember because we were saying that yes while there was an increase in deaths it wasn't a huge rise-where has this 13 deaths in a year suddenly coming from?! I believe it-I just don't ever remember there being 13 in one year in the stats we had before, I would've remembered that. Were they keeping the real number of deaths under wraps until the trial ended?

loyalist · 22/08/2023 20:45

It was only after the Consultants, running the neonatal unit, were the subject of a critical report from the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (RCPCH) that the Consultants filed a report with the police alleging the infant deaths were due to the actions of nurse Lucy Letby. In all but one case, the infants received autopsies, and the coroner found that they died of natural causes. 🤔

I don’t know, I’m reserving judgement on the parents.

Lucy thrives on drama and her mother showed a bit of drama when Lucy was arrested, crying ‘I did it, take me instead.’

The parents have seen months of evidence and have responded by mouthing ‘I love you’ at Lucy. They’re possibly in denial but it’s possible they know she did these heinous things.

The mother sounds like a real drama queen and neither of them sounds particularly pleasant. And I know I'll get jumped on for saying that ('you can't possibly know how you'd react in that situation' blah blah blah), but I don't care. A reporter at the trial said the parents chastised journalists for their reporting of the case, and they complained about the trial overrunning which meant they had to extend the contract on their flat in Manchester. 'I did it, take me instead' was a totally ridiculous thing to say. And shouting out 'you can't be serious, this cannot be right' when the verdicts were read out was very disrespectful to the families of the victims. Someone on Tattle who attended the sentencing said the screaming and wailing from LL's mother in court was so unbearable that he had to leave the room.

From Wiki:

Although she only faced seven murder charges at trial, 13 babies died in her final year at the Countess of Chester Hospital and Letby was on duty for every one of these deaths. Since she stopped working at the hospital there has comparatively been only one death in seven years.

They would have still been investigate the murders, we wouldn’t have had the complete picture on number of deaths.

So all the thousands of hours of painstaking work and all the boxes of evidence produced by Operation Hummingbird was made up?

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 21/08/2023 23:48

If the consultants were pretty sure of letby killing babies, why didn't they call the police themselves?
Surely if you really suspected someone was murdering babies and your managers or higher-ups were stuffing their fingers in their ears, then the next thing you'd do is call the police 🤔

Exactly what I’ve been thinking

Theborder · 22/08/2023 21:01

If my daughter had murdered all those babies and I knew for sure (she confessed) then yes, I could disown. I would be heart broken but that is a line I couldn’t cross.

Completely ignoring this person's posts seems to have been working quite well so far... just saying. There's only so much bonkersness one thread can take 😬

Don’t believe all you read online. LL’s parents were not present at the sentencing. Like their daughter, they chose not to attend.

Maybe the poster meant the verdicts? From newspaper reports, both Lucy and her parents attended the first few verdicts but not the final verdicts.

EmpressSisi · 22/08/2023 21:16

The only thing I can think of is if she had a difficult beginning to life (as explained by her friend) maybe she was testing these babies to see if they were strong and deserving enough to live?

I can imagine her mum made a big deal out of her birth story and saying how special she was and how she almost didn’t make it but she was special and her nurse was a hero. Maybe she wanted to play God and do the same thing to other babies and see who lived and who didn’t.

theDudesmummy · 22/08/2023 21:18

I still cannot understand why the mother said "I did it"". It makes no sense.

Yeah that's what I meant, I just mistyped. It was when the first verdicts were read out that LL's mother was making a scene.

I doubt it can be directly linked to any one event of her life to be honest.

My gut feeling is that PP was right when they said a baby probably did sadly die under her care (of natural causes) and this may have given her an appetite for the special attention she got as a result - everyone asking if she was okay, perhaps care and concern from the paediatrician she was ‘friends with’. As well as a morbid fascination with seeing the parents suffer and grieve, a bit like when people slow down to gawp at car crashes.

SequinsandStiIettos · 22/08/2023 21:27

Her mother Susan sobbed and said, "You cannot be serious. This can't be right!" as the first verdicts were announced on August 8th.

As to her reaction in court and her reaction of "Take me. I did it!" at her daughter's arrest, I don't understand why some of you don't understand. She was in shock, hoped she would be found not guilty, loves her unconditionally and would swap places with her in a heartbeat. It's really not hard to get.

Theborder · 22/08/2023 21:32

@LAHallucinations

I agree. They sound unpleasant. LL mother was wailing very loudly when she was found guilty “this can’t be serious”. Oh shut up and have some dignity. Her cries were far louder than the victims parents. All about her….. not to mention her histrionics when LL was arrested.
