Watching on Netflix, no spoilers, apart from what a woman she is and what a family they are.

Yea I'm not sure if it's their fake Irish accents..... they don't live in Ireland

There mum is Irish and I don't think they go to school so not mixing with English kids so yes they have an Irish accent.

.... yes their fake Irish accents. They don't live in Ireland - Tyson grew up in Manchester. There is an Irish twang that sometimes comes out. He still went to school until he was 11.

My parents are from overseas and I have an English accent.

As other people have pointed out they rarely mix outside of their Irish accented community so kids will have that accent.

charliechaplins · 21/08/2023 17:08

@Mrsjayy Tyson grew up in Manchester in a really nice area, in a house and went to school.

Some of you are so desperate to try and to project your own beliefs and values on to other cultures that you can't even be bothered to try and understand how people have different beliefs all over the world that are different to yours.

Just because you have a particular culture or belief does not make you immune to criticism. People are not being abusive when they are merely pointing out that the show is problematic because, amongst other things: TF is emotionally abusive to his wife, his daughter doesn’t attend school and is inadequately home schooled and he holds views that are misogynistic and homophobic. it’s not abusive to point out these difficulties. These issues should not be whitewashed into a “feel good” Netflix show and explained away as acceptable because they are part of a “culture” or “a way of life”.

How would you feel if a Netflix documentary was made about the Taliban in the same vein as this TF show? Despite the homophobia, misogynistic views and lack of value on women having any place beyond the home and certainly not in education in Afghanistan, I bet you wouldn’t be saying it’s fine because it’s a part of their “culture”.

theworldsgonefeckingmad · 21/08/2023 22:40

@Googlelina how can you compare the taliban who are terrorists and do live executions of people on YouTube to taking children out of school after primary 🤦‍♀️

Of course people understand that other people have different values, but why do we have to be okay with misogyny or homophobia or racism just because it might be part of a culture?

I don't get how Kanye was cancelled for making anti-Semetic comments and was cancelled but Tyson Fury made similar comments and gets a Netflix program.

Neither are fans of secondary education for girls.

Athena definitely got a better name than her sisters Valencia and Venezuela (!).

Did you not hear his speech about dog poo when he was in the car? 😁

Whowhatwherewhenwhy1 · 22/08/2023 00:08

May have to reinstate our Netflix subscription!!!

taxguru · 22/08/2023 10:59

@Lilyoverthevalley

I can't work out why Tyson Fury hasn't been cancelled and is actually being celebrated to the extent of a documentary on Netflix appearing about him. Yet other people are cancelled over a relatively minor single comment made years ago!

My thoughts exactly. Just can't see why he can get away with the things he's said when others who've said far "tamer" things have been "cancelled", lost their jobs, lost their TV work, etc.

taxguru · 22/08/2023 11:04

@Newyearnewus

Him driving an old Passatt

Just because he drives that occasionally (usually for the TV cameras), doesn't mean it's his only car! It's his "novelty" car.

I used to drive past his previous house and there was usually a Bentley, Range Rover, some kind of people carrier, and some kind of sports car (maybe a Porsche) in the drive.

Newyearnewus · 22/08/2023 11:19

@taxguru no I agree he’s got lots of super cars too, you see him driving them too in the show.

But the fact he still has his Passat plus his vans is pretty grounded in my opinion.

Can’t imagine David Beckham or many other high end sportspeople or celebs driving things like that

I don't know how you can describe anyone with a private jet as grounded.

Newyearnewus · 22/08/2023 11:40

@taxguru he’s got a lot of money. Should he just keep it in his savings and not spend it? 🤣

So yes he’s got a private jet, super cars and a big house. But he his family haven’t forgotten who they are as he still has his old car and wears £5 T-shirts from Primark.

The point I’m getting at is despite his wealth he is still fairly grounded

He's only "grounded" when it suits him. He doesn't mind splashing the cash when he wants. The sight of both his homes in Morecambe doesn't look "grounded" at all - his newest one is particularly brash and gaudy. Only last week he flew in to his gym by helicopter! Not many "grounded" people fly by helicopters!

Newyearnewus · 22/08/2023 11:52

@taxguru don't get me wrong going to the gym by helicopter is just plain ridiculous. I agree that’s just stupid.

However at the same time he doesn’t always behave like that. Have you seen the show? In it there’s scenes (whether it’s staged or not I’m sure) where they talk about instilling a strong work ethic in their children. Paris in particular talks to their eldest about either getting a job or following traveller tradition and getting married but makes it clear the 3rd option of living off her dad is not going to happen.

Another scene has him making his kids sweep the driveway and empty bins. Again this could be staged but I genuinely doubt it. I can’t think of many celeb kids who would be forced to do things like that nor get on with it without moaning.

She doesn’t have a nanny and has her mum help with childcare.

You honestly don’t think some of this shows they aren’t always about the flashy things?

IfICantHaveYou · 22/08/2023 12:02

I've seen the entire show and it looks staged in parts

He's vile to his wife. Nothing to look up to at all

MaydinEssex · 22/08/2023 13:21

mumof1or2 · 21/08/2023 01:33

It isn't a repeat. Was filmed in the second half of 2022. The fight with Derek was in November last year.

Sorry, I was thinking of the Gypsy King one he did in 2020, it only had 3 episodes.

LostThestral · 22/08/2023 14:14

I'm definitely going to give this a watch

🤣just parts?

Googlelina · 22/08/2023 17:30

I wasn’t making a comparison.

I was making the point that this show presents objectionable beliefs and practices as acceptable despite the fact they are highly damaging. Somehow because it is dressed up as “way of life/culture/beliefs” they cannot be questioned or challenged. My reference to the taliban was to point out that if a similar show was made with their “way of life” there would be outrage. Yet there seems to be a massive blind spot when it comes to TF and things he says and does.

Fundamentally I am concerned that the emotionally abusive way he treats his wife is portrayed in a dangerous way, without challenge. I would hate for a young person to watch the show and believe that if someone is abusive to you that’s fine and you have to put up with it because they have a mental health problem. Or that some of the behaviour towards Paris (ignoring her, insulting her, treating her like dirt) is acceptable behaviour in a relationship.

IfICantHaveYou · 22/08/2023 18:40

@Honeychickpea yes.... as I said, 'in parts'

The way he behaved was the real deal.... he's no actor!

coxesorangepippin · 22/08/2023 18:51

Watched this last night.

It must have taken years to film because every day is sunny!!
