Watching on Netflix, no spoilers, apart from what a woman she is and what a family they are.

Do they have millions?

Is the area and house worth a lot?

Do the children attend any classes outside the home that require a lot of money?

Bizarre comment.

Yea I'm not sure if it's their fake Irish accents..... they don't live in Ireland

There mum is Irish and I don't think they go to school so not mixing with English kids so yes they have an Irish accent.

.... yes their fake Irish accents. They don't live in Ireland - Tyson grew up in Manchester. There is an Irish twang that sometimes comes out. He still went to school until he was 11.

My parents are from overseas and I have an English accent.

No.

It's drugs and choosing to be a dickhead.

Ok I don't know if he is on drugs.

I doubt he's on drugs. The combination of ADHA and Bipolar is pretty savage. Doesn't mean his behaviour is excusable, just that it will be a huge factor.

I have met this man many times, he is lovely and has time for everyone. If 20 children want a selfie he will stand there chatting until every photo is taken. I was in the co-op when he gave up his place in the queue to carry an old blokes shopping to the car for him.

Yeah he said he would hang his sister for being promiscuous, that homosexuality being legal will cause the end of the world, Jewish people are brainwashing people through the banks and media and a woman's place is on her back. But he took a selfie with some kids so he's lovely.

WallaceinAnderland · 21/08/2023 14:30

Someone I know was married to man like TF. He was outwardly lovely to strangers or friends but a bloody nightmare for her.

All the same traits, just got up and left when he'd had enough, leaving her with four small children to manage no matter where they were or what they were doing. It's incredibly selfish and no excuse really.

Yeah, that isn’t ok.

Exactly!

I don't believe in excusing unacceptable world views because he is a traveller, saying it's part of his "culture" and we don't understand his "culture". Where do you draw the line, some religious people (note I said only some!) are against, homosexuality, is that ok because it's part of their culture? Some people are racist, is that ok because of their upbringing and "culture"?

I can't work out why Tyson Fury hasn't been cancelled and is actually being celebrated to the extent of a documentary on Netflix appearing about him. Yet other people are cancelled over a relatively minor single comment made years ago!

To be honest I find it extremely depressing and it makes me feel like a lot of people only pay lip service to feminism while not truly caring about equality.

Aria2015 · 21/08/2023 10:19

I struggle with how he treats Paris. I know some people have commended him for being open about his mental health struggles, but I find his 'I treat her like shit and it's awful, but i can't help it' attitude problematic. His bipolar is used as an excuse for being emotionally abusive. She's treading on eggshells all the time and bending over backwards to accommodate his mood swings and impulsivity. I can imagine that, despite having 6 kids, her life is much easier and smoother when he's spending time away from them all training and boxing and she's in charge of running the family.

Having a mental illness is not a blanket excuse to treat people like shit.

Summed up absolutely perfect.

I feel sorry for her.

charliechaplins · 21/08/2023 14:40

@Lilyoverthevalley I don't know the love of boxing.... it's people hurting each other for money. It's fighting. We don't tolerate it on the street....

And when there is a major boxing match everyone watches it, I don't get to.

wisherwasher · 21/08/2023 14:56

I believe he speaks a lot for the sake of it, a blabber mouth with not much between his ears.

Newyearnewus · 21/08/2023 15:02

I love the show! I think he’s clearly got his mental health issues which he talks openly about and I don’t agree with his shouty shouty attitude but what I will say is despite their wealth they haven’t lost touch with their roots. Him driving an old Passatt and her wrapping up Next boxers for his birthday does how down to earth they are.

She puts up with so much from him and seems to handle it with class. I must admit before I thought she’d be really rough but she’s not at all. Her clothes aren’t to my taste but she’s immaculately turned out and is natural, she doesn’t look like she’s had anything done. And to top it all off she’s hands on with her kids. Not a nanny in sight!

I really like her too.

ErmWhatever · 21/08/2023 15:09

@MollyRover Ahh, I see where you're coming from now. Nearly choked on my tea when I read your first post 😅

Physicstruck · 21/08/2023 15:10

I really like her but I’d bet my arse that if she came on here discussing that she knew no details of their finances, or that he boasted he’d slept with 500 women, or gave any details of how abusive he is, everyone would say ‘leave!’ ‘How dare you stay in a relationship with an abusive man!’ Etc etc. And probably rightly so.
She’s learnt to walk on eggshells very well indeed, and I’m not sure that’s something to be applauded.
Aside from this, Paris has really changed the way she speaks in this series? I wonder if she’s having elocution lessons or some sort of coaching ? In the other documentary she had much more of the gypsy twang.

Haretest · 21/08/2023 15:15

I don't see how she deserves a medal, supporting a awful life, bad for their children, modelling sexism and low self respect. She's not much better than him.

She's got low self respect how?

Tortiemiaw · 21/08/2023 15:19

Imagine aspiring to a life like this! I'd rather be skint than live like that. Seriously, as someone else said upthread, we genuinely do only pretend to give a shit about feminism in this country

Proudgypsy · 21/08/2023 15:43

Some of you are so desperate to try and to project your own beliefs and values on to other cultures that you can't even be bothered to try and understand how people have different beliefs all over the world that are different to yours.

Enfys1982 · 21/08/2023 16:03

They’re travellers. It’s a still a very misogynistic community. Most of the kids go to school but leave altogether at the end of primary, this is a big step forwards because I can remember when they didn’t attend school at all and were mostly illiterate.

hoophoophooray · 21/08/2023 16:11

There is an Irish traveller community near where I live, we sometimes see the teenage girls in the co-op, and they all have strong Irish accents. We are nowhere near Ireland. I guess being brought up in a very close community, they have their parents accents

Nobody said everyone had to like or but that's no excuse for ignorance. We get enough abuse as it is.

Yes they don't go to school and just integrate in their community.

MummyJ12 · 21/08/2023 16:38

I’ve only watched a couple of episodes.
Paris has a lot to deal with, and my heart went out to her a couple of times. Especially at the Christening (although Tyson had made it pretty clear that he would have preferred a much more low key day and it was obviously too much for him).
He becomes overwhelmed easily and it seems that he literally runs away from the chaos at home sometimes, usually with the dog in tow! But then talks about wanting to extend the family and have more children…..
Tyson and Paris love each other very much though, that is pretty obvious. The kids seem happy and secure.
I don’t know enough about the culture to comment on how they live (homeschooling etc) but I wasn’t sure about the swearing or the Dr. Pepper in the baby bottle!
Hilarious that Tyson’s brother was talking about having 10 kids when Molly was pregnant with their first….! Zero clue there!!
