Showering at night vs showering in the morning

Does anyone shower at night rather than when you wake up in the morning and actually feel clean for the whole day?

It would make the mornings a lot quicker for me but there’s no way I would feel clean without showering in the morning. I would just feel sweaty and dirty the whole day - not sure if that’s just a mental thing though!

I have showered at night before but have still had a shower the very next morning.

The only times when I have skipped morning showers are, for example, when getting a very early flight and need to be up at like 3AM.

If anyone does this regularly, how do you ensure you feel clean throughout the day?

I always shower at night before going to bed. I like going to bed feeling clean. Never had an issue with not feeling clean in the day though 🤷‍♀️

Cricketbelle · 19/08/2023 01:41

I’m like you, would hate to go to work having not had a shower.

I’m off work this week and I’ve not had a shower today at all but that’s unusual.

DramaAlpaca · 19/08/2023 01:42

I have to shower in the morning, I feel sweaty and grubby otherwise.

I shower in the evenings as well if I've been exercising or the weather is really hot, but I never miss my morning shower.

DiscoBeat · 19/08/2023 01:53

I sometimes shower at night but I would still shower in the morning as I feel fresher after being in bed all night. I have started a really time saving regime with my hair though so can be in and out of the shower in 5 minutes on non hair wash days.

HappiDaze · 19/08/2023 02:05

I used to shower in the morning only but since having DC and being knackered in the morning before work I shower in the evening where I also cleanse my face etc of the days make up

VashtaNerada · 19/08/2023 03:16

I swapped from evening to morning when DC was born because there was literally no time in the evenings that the baby didn’t cry Sad I was always militant about morning showers but it’s amazing what you get used to! I have a wipe all over with a baby wipe when I get up but that’s it. I don’t feel grubby or anything and I’m just used to it now.

I've always showered at night. I don't understand why anyone would feel sweaty and dirty in the morning, having done nothing but sleep in the meantime. Maybe you are sleeping with too many hot blankets / duvets, or wearing overly heavy night clothes if you are sweating during the night.

BarbaraofSeville · 19/08/2023 06:23

You're right, that's mental, in both senses of the word.

Maybe you are sleeping with too many hot blankets / duvets, or wearing overly heavy night clothes if you are sweating during the night

This could be it. On any thread on here about bedding, pyjamas etc, people seem to dress and cover themselves as if they are sleeping on the lawn in winter, not sleeping in a house where the temperature rarely drops much below about 20 C.

Since having DC 5 years ago, I've got into the habit of showering in the evening. Rarely have a morning shower. I always feel clean during the day, I don't sweat at night unless it's a heatwave!

LateSummerLobelia · 19/08/2023 06:45

I used to shower in the morning while DH showered at night.

I now have a proper shower at night. I like to go to bed feeling really clean. In the morning though I have a very quick shower (but don't wash my hair a second time). I have hair that needs to be washed daily but I carry a small travel size can of dry shampoo with me if I feel my hair needs a freshen up during the day.

That system now really works for me.

runningonberocca · 19/08/2023 07:20

I need to shower in the morning to wake me up! On the occasions that I skip it ( if I have showered the night before for example) I feel like I’m in a kind of brain fog all day. Love my morning shower with some kind of wake me up shower gel - the ginger one from Waitrose is gorgeous

Peony654 · 19/08/2023 07:22

I pretty much always shower in the morning, I hate the feeling otherwise! Would shower at night too if it had been a hot day or I’d been gardening

Frenchfancy · 19/08/2023 07:25

I used to shower at night and be fine the next day. In fact I used to be able to skip a day.

Then peri-menopause hit. Now I have to shower in the morning and often have another shower in the evening as well.

purplesparklydinosaur · 19/08/2023 07:28

I shower at random (NHS shift worker) times, depending on the day/tiredness/what I’ve been doing and feel fine as long as I have showered once in each 24hrs!

Ollybob · 19/08/2023 07:37

Always in the morning, minimum a quick flannel wash.
When you are in a busy job and with the weather being humid ATM that's at least another 10 hours unwashed, I'd stink!
Also shower when I get home if it's been a busy one, it's not always thankfully.

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 19/08/2023 07:42

I prefer morning. Firstly it wakes me up, and secondly my greasy hair can only handle one sleep before needing a wash. If I shower at night I have to wash my hair each time, whereas I can get away with every second morning.

beeonmybonnett · 19/08/2023 18:45

Yeah I couldn’t not shower in the morning. I just wouldn’t feel right.

stayathomer · 19/08/2023 18:48

I could see it working in the winter but in the summer I sweat insanely and wake up with everywhere smelling. I showered before bed recently and still stank in the morning

Bromptotoo · 19/08/2023 19:03

Difficult to see shower am or pm as a simple binary question.

As a kid we didn't have a shower in the house, just a bath. Same in first few houses I lived in as an adult.

Bath a couple of nights a week otherwise a stand up wash with a basin of water in the morning.

Tried showering every morning once we were in adult house #3 and had an electric shower but it played eight bells with my skin - itchy as hell all day. Every other day in morning. 06:30 train on shower days 06:00 otherwise...

Apart from hair I really cannot see difference between a shower and wash basin>hot water/soap>flannel.

Post pandemic hair has been kept trimmed with a #4 clipper and doesn't get lank as it did when longer. Back to twice a week full wash (shower); am or pm as convenient. Otherwise quick wash at the basin in the en suite.

C1N1C · 19/08/2023 19:10

I guess two different rationales here...

Showering at night washes off the dirt from the day so your bed is clean...

Showering in the morning washes off all the sweat from the night so you smell nice and nice for the day.

I personally shower in the morning... it wakes me up and I like wet hair as it's easier to style.

Boxofsockss · 19/08/2023 19:19

Oh I always shower at night. No way do I want to get in my clean bed sheets after being at work all day and around people who do not care about hygiene etc. ew. In fact I shower as soon as I get home when I can.

cherrypied · 19/08/2023 19:19

You are my people morning shower tribe!

I'm a 43 dies hard morning showerer. Cannot leave the house without a shower. If i don't Everyone will know and i will look filthy, sweaty, greasy and dishevelled all day. My fine hair needs a wash after 20 hours so by 4pm is lank and flat. Need a quick shower, hair wash and blow dry (takes 10 mins- its thin).

An exception was holidays where i'd be in the pool. Even for an early morning flight id shower before.

Until... I started lap swimming this year. Three time a week 6-7pm. The pool showers are free and also after a swim i feel super clean its so strange. (I've built up to doing 1k). I've also found some shampoo, conditioner and hair product thar keep my hair looking decent for a whole 24 hours. Also sure maximum protection is a great deodorant in a solid block. This helps to as it works better at night.

Then the next day in just wash and go! Its quite liberating.

I'm sure its partially a mindset and part of a routine which I started in my teens.

Also cannot go longer than 24 hours without a shower. NEVER.

Lilithlogic · 19/08/2023 19:21

I do both. Morning to wake me up and evening to get rid of the day.

LunaLoveFood · 19/08/2023 19:21

I get sweaty at night, even with air con sonalways shower in the morning or I don't feel clean.

UndercoverCop · 19/08/2023 19:24

I'm about to have my second shower of the day! Had one this morning but I've done a lot in the garden today and it's been hot, I'm grimy and sweaty
I do sometimes have an evening shower but as an addition not instead of.
I have a 4 tog duvet that often gets kicked off and either sleep in cotton boyshort type knickers and a vest, a short sleeveless cotton nightdress or naked. I don't wake up feeling or smelling fresh, I wouldn't be happy to go straight to work like that.
