Showering at night vs showering in the morning

Does anyone shower at night rather than when you wake up in the morning and actually feel clean for the whole day?

It would make the mornings a lot quicker for me but there’s no way I would feel clean without showering in the morning. I would just feel sweaty and dirty the whole day - not sure if that’s just a mental thing though!

I have showered at night before but have still had a shower the very next morning.

The only times when I have skipped morning showers are, for example, when getting a very early flight and need to be up at like 3AM.

If anyone does this regularly, how do you ensure you feel clean throughout the day?

Hate showering at night. Makes me more alert, takes ages to dry hair and a morning shower sets me up for the day!

Coronationstation · 19/08/2023 19:32

I often shower at night because I exercise in an evening. If i’m going in the office then i
shower in the morning (don’t wash my hair if i’ve done it the night before) but if i’m WFH
i wouldn’t. And I don’t shower in the morning if i’m doing exercise early in the day.

You are my people morning shower tribe!

I'm a 43 dies hard morning showerer. Cannot leave the house without a shower. If i don't Everyone will know and i will look filthy, sweaty, greasy and dishevelled all day. My fine hair needs a wash after 20 hours so by 4pm is lank and flat. Need a quick shower, hair wash and blow dry (takes 10 mins- its thin).

An exception was holidays where i'd be in the pool. Even for an early morning flight id shower before.

Until... I started lap swimming this year. Three time a week 6-7pm. The pool showers are free and also after a swim i feel super clean its so strange. (I've built up to doing 1k). I've also found some shampoo, conditioner and hair product thar keep my hair looking decent for a whole 24 hours. Also sure maximum protection is a great deodorant in a solid block. This helps to as it works better at night.

Then the next day in just wash and go! Its quite liberating.

I'm sure its partially a mindset and part of a routine which I started in my teens.

Also cannot go longer than 24 hours without a shower. NEVER.

Read this several times and cannot work out whether you're advocating showering morning or evening?!?

ginghamstarfish · 19/08/2023 19:36

We shower after work, early evening. Have never understood the reverse - someone out all day, or busy all day, gets grubby, sweaty, then comes home and goes to bed like that before showering the next morning - yuk ..... and wouldn't you have to change your bedding more frequently too?

Baldieheid · 19/08/2023 19:37

Nighttime showers for me. I despise going to bed dirty, or unshowered. It feels gross to me.

GigiAnnna · 19/08/2023 19:46

I have both, but morning is more important. I'd usually have a bath at night and a shower in the morning. I don't feel right without it, even if it's just a couple of mins in and out. I don't know how anyone can get up and just get dressed without at least washing their face, pits, arse and genitals. If you're taking the time to wash those parts properly then it's quicker and easier to have a shower.

Ponderingwindow · 19/08/2023 19:48

I don’t understand how anyone can get into bed without washing off the dirt and grime of the day. I find it absolutely revolting.

getting up in the morning and just starting your day, you have no reason to be dirty.

bryceQ · 19/08/2023 19:52

Always at night. Couldn't get in my bed not feeling clean. I don't feel dirty when I wake up

WhisperingHi · 19/08/2023 19:54

I shower every other morning usually! I've never had anyone mention body odour to me. So really, I think it makes VERY little difference. It's personal preference.

There is if you tend to sweat at night or have sex.

BlueBlubbaWhale · 19/08/2023 19:56

I rarely shower/bath in the morning. I do a pits and bits freshen and bath in the evening usually.

unicornhair · 19/08/2023 19:59

I’m a die hard evening shower person, I feel disgusting in the evenings.
I find showers relaxing and not energising so they don’t help me in the morning at all.

To me too that’s utterly rank 🤢
I shower/bath in the evening, I only have a morning shower if it’s been really warm during the night, like last summer.
Going to bed unwashed is grim, bedding must stink.

Noicant · 19/08/2023 20:01

Both but I’m trying to shower just in the morning because of dry skin. I sweat at night so I would feel awful without a morning shower.

Lovetotravel123 · 19/08/2023 20:05

I do both but if I had s choice I would choose the evening shower. I can’t sleep if I am not clean and the bed must smell if not showered.

cherrypied · 19/08/2023 20:08

@SaladBarNanny you quite right

Paraphrased from my nonsensical ramblings:

Morning showering is a hard habit to break.

First and foremost I'm a morning shower and do not understand how people function without a morning shower.

It took an new intense hobby marinating in chlorinated water for 5 hours per week (three evenings) to break it. Somehow the swimming makes me super clean. After an evening swim and shower do not need a shower the following morning.

EmpressSoleil · 19/08/2023 20:08

I don't understand why anyone would feel sweaty and dirty in the morning

Peri menopause night sweats. Bladder issues that mean I sometimes leak urine during the night. Heavy periods wearing a pad overnight.

I don't think anyone would thank me if I didn't shower in the morning before mixing with them! Plus I'm single now but when I was with my ex we'd often have sex then go to sleep so add stale semen into the mix and that's pretty gross! Not sure why that's hard to understand.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 19/08/2023 20:14

I shower before bed and in the morning

This.. I'm shocked people would rather shower off after sleeping in clean pajamas, not after a whole day of being out in the world, moving, etc. Not to mention the day is longer than night.

I'd feel disgusting getting into clean pajamas after a whole day without a shower, into clean bedding.

Clean bedding + clean PJ's + I'm clean. Sleep with fan/windows open. No sweating or dirt needed, wake up still clean and ready for the day.

megletthesecond · 19/08/2023 20:22

Always evening shower. I'm active in the day, even if I haven't been to the gym. Shower then clean pyjamas. I'm rarely warm, let alone hot.

Cupcakekiller · 19/08/2023 20:29

I don't think it matters really does it? Either way you're going to be clean enough, unless you exercise a lot or have a really dirty job or something.

Vicliz24 · 19/08/2023 20:29

Evening shower for me . My hair needs the night to calm down . Quick wash round the important bits in the morning.

DownwardCat · 19/08/2023 21:31

I have lived under the rock, never knew that most people shower once a day. We all shower twice a day, wash hair in the morning.

pizzaHeart · 19/08/2023 21:40

I do mornings unless I stay at home all day and usually shower before going out in the evening. I wouldn’t mind evening one as well - I don’t mind to shower 3 times a day.

ThreeRingCircus · 19/08/2023 21:48

Evening shower all the way. I started as a teenager because my hair is so thick it takes ages to dry and I would have to get up even earlier in the morning to do it, so showered at night instead.

Now I cannot imagine getting into bed being sweaty or having the day's grime on me. I shower before bed so I'm clean and my bedding is clean. The thought of being out all day and then getting into PJs and bed without washing feels gross to me.

But I'm not a night-time sweater. If I was waking up very sweaty I'd have a quick shower in the morning too....but would never skip an evening shower.
