Showering at night vs showering in the morning

Does anyone shower at night rather than when you wake up in the morning and actually feel clean for the whole day?

It would make the mornings a lot quicker for me but there’s no way I would feel clean without showering in the morning. I would just feel sweaty and dirty the whole day - not sure if that’s just a mental thing though!

I have showered at night before but have still had a shower the very next morning.

The only times when I have skipped morning showers are, for example, when getting a very early flight and need to be up at like 3AM.

If anyone does this regularly, how do you ensure you feel clean throughout the day?

Dangerous asking this. Don’t you know that many MNs are appalled at the filthy people who don’t shower at least twice a day? Don’t even get them started on sheets, those people often change them daily 😳

BarbaraofSeville · 19/08/2023 21:55

Any advance on 3 showers a day?

RichardMarxisinnocent · 19/08/2023 21:55

I'm very envious of all these people who rarely sweat at night and thus don't have to shower in the morning. I woke briefly early this morning and early yesterday morning feeling very hot and with my chest covered in sweat. The window was open and I was under only a sheet but thanks to menopause I was still sweaty.

AnnieSnap · 19/08/2023 21:55

@BarbaraofSeville 😂🤣😂

LaurelGrove · 19/08/2023 21:59

I cannot fathom getting into bed dirty, so will always shower at night. I will sometimes shower in the morning (or rather, hop in when DP has finished for a minute or two) but only to keep him company.

ManchesterLu · 19/08/2023 22:06

I shower at night. Wouldn't want to be bothered with drying my hair in the morning on the days I wash it, and may as well stick to the nighttime routine rather than just at night when I wash my hair.

RosesAndHellebores · 19/08/2023 22:06

One of the joys about being post menopausal is that I hardly sweat any more. Unless it's a heatwave, I shower in the evenings now.

ChippyRach · 19/08/2023 22:13

If I'm exercising I have a quick rinse in the morning, then a proper shower afterwards then another freshen up before bed. I like a cold shower first thing to wake me up, however I prefer to have my 'big' shower when I use body scrub, shave etc in the evening.

Belladonna56 · 19/08/2023 22:17

Showering in the morning helps me wake up properly. I wouldn't have a shower at night as I want to feel sleepy.

BarelyLiterate · 19/08/2023 22:26

I’m a morning shower person. Mainly because I’m not a morning person, so I need my shower to wake me up & get me going, as well as giving me some alone time when I’m at my grumpiest.

rhino12345 · 19/08/2023 22:34

I love an evening shower (or bath if I'm feeling luxurious!)
I can't get into bed without a shower, even if I'm totally exhausted or have been out. Makes me feel icky. 😂

Mindovermatter247 · 19/08/2023 22:49

I’m the same, especially as I sweat a lot at night. I prefer to shower in the morning… nothing worse than being sticky and going to work. sometimes in really hot weather I’ll have one in evening too…

You're right, that's mental, in both senses of the word.

Maybe you are sleeping with too many hot blankets / duvets, or wearing overly heavy night clothes if you are sweating during the night

This could be it. On any thread on here about bedding, pyjamas etc, people seem to dress and cover themselves as if they are sleeping on the lawn in winter, not sleeping in a house where the temperature rarely drops much below about 20 C.

Lots of people get hot with PMT and it’s worse with peri. It’s also summer and hot where I am. Suggesting the only reason people get hot at night is because they’re wearing PJs is ‘mental’.

Tanfastic · 19/08/2023 22:56

I used to shower in the morning but since I've started leaving my hair to dry naturally rather than with the hairdryer I now shower at night.

Much prefer getting into bed all clean. In the morning I wash my bits and pits and clean my teeth. All good 👍🏻

fitofthegiggles · 19/08/2023 23:15

I'm definitely a morning showerer. It's a crucial part of my wake-up routine and helps me feel fresh and ready for the day.

I can't remember the last time I had a bedtime shower. I just don't feel it's necessary. I don't go to bed dirty as I wash hands, face and often my bits before I hit the sack. Every other part of my body has been covered with clothes during the day so can't possibly have picked up dirt etc. I don't work in a hard manual labouring job in a mucky environment and I don't really sweat much unless I've taken taken exercise at the gym etc (with shower immediately after).

Also I think a night time shower would wake me up and make it harder to go to sleep. DP is the same so we're happy.

HateTheView · 19/08/2023 23:39

I like to shower before bed as I don't like the idea of being grubby or sweaty before getting into bed.
I rarely feel the need to shower in the morning as we have an a/c unit so I don't sweat overnight. Though if I did I would just jump in the shower for a quick wash. If I was in a hurry I could shower in 2 minutes and dry myself in 2 minutes as long as my hair didn't need washing. I only wash my hair twice a week so just do it before bed or leave extra time in the morning.

darkestnights · 19/08/2023 23:44

Dh literally can't function without a shower in the morning which sometimes gets me in the mindset of the same. But I prefer an evening shower... unless I have weird sweaty hormonal dreams

jammydodgers0 · 19/08/2023 23:50

I shower at night just before bed and feel fine for the next day however if I'm on my period or it's been really hot I'll get in the shower in the morning and literally wash pits and bits. 2 minute job rather than the 10 minute shower or 30 minute bath I'll have in the evening.

Nachtvlinder · 20/08/2023 00:00

I do both morning and night - I don't like the feeling my body's been active for at least 15 hours and not get clean at night, especially having gone to the toilet at least 4 times in the day (I wish I have a bidet, but always wash myself with damp tissue a few times before finishing).

In the morning, I like to clean off the sweat from the night before, not that I sweat much in the night - they say we lose about a litre (is that right?) of water a night and all the shedding of dead skin cells too!

sopeas · 20/08/2023 00:02

Lilithlogic · 19/08/2023 19:21

I do both. Morning to wake me up and evening to get rid of the day.

Me too!

Lifecanbebeautiful12 · 20/08/2023 00:04

I always shower in the morning and before bed, is that not normal?! I generally don’t sweat very much but just feel a bit gross to not shower. But if I had to choose either, it would be the morning. Definitely wouldn’t be able to go out without a shower!

RitzyMcFitzy · 20/08/2023 00:08

Tiddlywinks63 · 19/08/2023 20:00

To me too that’s utterly rank 🤢
I shower/bath in the evening, I only have a morning shower if it’s been really warm during the night, like last summer.
Going to bed unwashed is grim, bedding must stink.

threads like this always evoke such hyperbole.

calm down, love.

Nachtvlinder · 20/08/2023 00:14

In really hot weather (heatwave), I can shower up to 5 times a day with cold water. As I hate the heat, I can't stand feeling hot and bothered (Also, post-menopausal). Thankfully, I only shower for a few minutes at a time. Last year for about 6 months' I was showering only in cold water in the hopes of feeling energised from the so-called cold water therapy - did it work? Heck, it didn't!

jellybe · 20/08/2023 01:25

I normally shower in the evening as after a 12.5hr shift I feel gross. Then depending on the weather or the time of the month I will sometimes then shower again in the morning. But normally I don't feel dirty again in the morning so don't bother.

Groutyonehereagain · 20/08/2023 01:28

I shower at night. I love getting into bed feeling clean.
