Showering at night vs showering in the morning

Does anyone shower at night rather than when you wake up in the morning and actually feel clean for the whole day?

It would make the mornings a lot quicker for me but there’s no way I would feel clean without showering in the morning. I would just feel sweaty and dirty the whole day - not sure if that’s just a mental thing though!

I have showered at night before but have still had a shower the very next morning.

The only times when I have skipped morning showers are, for example, when getting a very early flight and need to be up at like 3AM.

If anyone does this regularly, how do you ensure you feel clean throughout the day?

Even if you don't sweat at night, I reckon sleep itself has its own particular 'smell'. Hard to describe, but it's sort of musty and a little bit sweaty (even if you think you don't sweat). I can smell it on anyone - I actually think babies and children are worse for the 'sleepy smell'. I'd never not shower in the morning, because I'd hate to smell musty and damp all day! I'm in menopause now, but I had terrible night sweats for years. Not to mention several hot flushes during the day. I showered a lot in those days!

I shower at night just before bed time . If o feel the need will shower in the morning too but in winter specially it’s mostly night

User3735 · 20/08/2023 03:57

I usually only shower in the evenings and morning when I'm in work later, or there is a heatwave. I don't have time otherwise. I use Mitchum roll on deodorant and it lasts more than 48 hours if it needs to. I use femfresh spray deodorant too in summer. I did used to need to shower every morning before I stopped wearing synthetic underwear and pyjamas and while using less effective spray on deodorant. I keep seeing women and teenagers in all in one outfits in cheap ribbed nylon suits and short/cropped top sets that look just like the underwear I used to wear that made me stink and I don't know how they can stand to wear it.

I used to shower soon after getting home from work, because that's when I'd be dirty. Now I don't go out to work I like the idea of showering in the morning, before I have to get my mother up, but that means getting up about 7, and come the morning I just can't be stuffed, so it's afternoon or evening.

floribunda18 · 20/08/2023 05:02

I wouldn't get up feeling grubby if I'd showered the night before. But then I only have a daily (or sometimes more) shower in warmer weather. Usually it's every other day, after I've been to the gym or for a run. I'm not a very sweaty person though, whereas DH can melt pillows with his head sweat 😅Even during exercise, unless it's hot weather I sweat when I've finished, so wait half an hour to have a shower if I can.

HoliHormonalTigerLillyTheSecond · 20/08/2023 07:11

I do both.

User15387500 · 20/08/2023 07:13

I shower in the morning as I get bad bed hair, DH showers at night as he often does dirty jobs in the day and also gets hay fever so has to shower the pollen out

Moredarkchocolateplease · 20/08/2023 09:10

I exercise, either weights, pilates, dog walk or swimming before work each day. So I shower afterwards. Even dog walking makes me smell. Not bad smell, but I wouldn't feel clean going into work without a shower.

Couldnt shower at night, I'm far too exhausted.

You're right, that's mental, in both senses of the word.

Maybe you are sleeping with too many hot blankets / duvets, or wearing overly heavy night clothes if you are sweating during the night

This could be it. On any thread on here about bedding, pyjamas etc, people seem to dress and cover themselves as if they are sleeping on the lawn in winter, not sleeping in a house where the temperature rarely drops much below about 20 C.

Well! i sleep naked, with the wi does open and very little coverage, often just a sheet, and am boiling all night long.

this is what your 50s look like!

Me too, I can't stand to wear anything in bed, plus having the window open all day/night (practically all-year). Since we had our first hot summer period, I went to the spare bedroom as its cooler and using just a sheet to cover myself. Occasionally, I've had to use the summer duvet as sometimes it's been a bit cooler at night. This summer is a godsend compared to last summer! (I used to feel hot and sticky for most of the day, and having cold showers helped me to cool down.

Girasoli · 20/08/2023 17:47

I still feel clean if I shower/have a bath before bed but I don't do it very often because then I have damp hair at bedtime and it's all puffy/frizzy the next day.

magicalkitty · 20/08/2023 18:10

I used to shower both morning and night, but now it's usually only at night.

With the choice of only choosing one, showering at night will always be superior to showering in the morning. I can't imagine going to bed without washing the day off. It's better to shower at night, get into bed clean and then get up and get on with your day.

Yes I know you can swear at night when it's hot, but the sweat and dirt will always be more during the day than night.

This. People are so dramatic.

It comes down to personal preferences and circumstances. As long as people are cleaning themselves daily, it’s all good.

User15387500 · 20/08/2023 18:59

I generally wash the sheets out each morning anyway so they are clean

Shower both morning and evening. Every day.

Personally I don’t need to shower in the evening unless I’m sweaty or otherwise dirty.
