Lucy Letby guilty

BarelyLiterate · 18/08/2023 13:12

Lucy Letby has been convicted of the murder of seven babies and the attempted murder of six more.

My thoughts are with the families of the victims.

It is unbelievable and seems the management are also to blame as well :(
Those families were so badly let down all round

agree, how were the consultant’s warnings ignored. she is described as the most prolific, yet this happened at a time where there are multiple options for electronic ad well as other record keeping.

beconase · 18/08/2023 13:56

Beverly allot came across as weird and had previous form for being weird.. letby seemed so so normal.

Waterweir · 18/08/2023 13:56

She was a young white female. I think psychologists would tell you that people who fit her 'type' are less likely to be found guilty by a jury. There is a lot of research showing that juries have a tendency to be racist and sexist.

mateysmum · 18/08/2023 13:57

It fucking did it again!
*arse covering

problembottom · 18/08/2023 13:57

Pure evil. It sounds all about this married doctor, thought it worth killing the babies to keep his attention? Not sure why he should get to keep his anonymity to be honest.

I also think the hospital executives who kept her at work despite the protestations of several consultants should be prosecuted. More babies were harmed because of them.

Laiste · 18/08/2023 13:57

Paul2023 · 18/08/2023 13:52

Her parents went to court aswell. I’m not sure why though

God, could you imagine your daughter or son being accused of this - and then found guilty.

I have first hand experience of watching how a parent can find excuses for their adult child's repellent criminal actions, mainly, i think, to give their own brain some way to cope. But something like this? How do they live with it?

GiddyUpH · 18/08/2023 13:58

SuperBurgers · 18/08/2023 13:19

The scary part is she looks so bloody normal, just a couple of years younger than me, someone I could go out for drinks with. She looks happy in her photos... just how does this happen? How can people be this twisted? What was she getting out of it?

I think this is the scary thing. I don't think anyone's come out and said 'she did xyz' as a child, have they? How truly effed up must she be, what happened to her to make her such a monster.

PrincessScarlett · 18/08/2023 13:58

Agree that it's bloody scary that she comes across as so normal looking. Even in the trial I though she gave a very convincing defence of other hospital workers bring to blame and she was being scapegoated.

What I will say though is that all those in management who covered this up even though they knew something wasn't right should hang their heads in shame and face consequences themselves. If they had acted sooner on their concern them maybe some of those poor babies murders could have been prevented. If I was one of those parents I would certainly be pursuing this.

I honestly can’t get my head around how you’d cope if your child was found guilty of such sickening crimes.

CurryandSnuggle · 18/08/2023 13:59

Awful. I hated to believe it but I thought she was guilty for the majority as well after listening to all of the evidence on every podcast on “The trial of Lucy Letby” (on spotify). The evidence against her was compelling.

jenbj · 18/08/2023 14:00

It's hard to believe such evil exists. A woman killing innocent babies - why? It's incomprehensible. My thoughts are with the families. And I do feel for the jurors who spent so much time on such a shocking and harrowing case. It's just awful.

MansfieldLark · 18/08/2023 14:00

Surely a whole life sentence. No chance of ever being released

GigiAnnna · 18/08/2023 14:00

Thank god. I was worried she'd walk free with a lot of things I'd read about it all being " circumstantial". My thoughts are with the families of all babies involved who had the misfortune of coming into contact with that horrible twat.

aperolspritzbasicbitch · 18/08/2023 14:00

Do the jury for a case like this get counselling after?

It must be horrific - to know that your opinion is the difference between someone guilty getting away with murder/someone innocent spending their life in prison.

BarqsHasBite · 18/08/2023 14:00

poorbutgood · 18/08/2023 13:54

Think we need to spare a thought for the jury.. deliberated for 22 days. Must have been soul destroying

Honestly, a standing ovation for the jury, they have spent months of their lives on this and I’m sure will be mentally scarred by it. A massive public service by them.

CurryandSnuggle · 18/08/2023 14:00

I also agree she looks so normal… nice, even.

My heart goes out to the families, and also to her parents who would never want to believe their own daughter could commit such awful crimes.

Notbeinfunnehbut · 18/08/2023 14:01

This case feels very weird to me

I’ve not really seen any complelling evidence

really hope the court had some

tragic all round

TenPenceMix · 18/08/2023 14:01

@CurryandSnuggle that podcast is excellent isn't it. Very thorough.

Lenald2512 · 18/08/2023 14:01

bizarrely no motive has been established - mind boggling.

BlowDryRat · 18/08/2023 14:02

She's a truly horrendous person. To be so calculating in how best to make the murder of tiny babies appear natural takes a level of evil I can't comprehend.

I feel so sorry for the parents she killed and injured. The BBC have done an interview of Baby E and Baby F, who had twin sons after several rounds of failed IVF. One was murdered and the other has severe learning difficulties and will need care for the rest of his life. How can there be closure for that family, living every day with the consequences of one person's evil and the hospital's attempted cover-up of a murderer?

ISpyNoPlumPie · 18/08/2023 14:02

HaveYouHeardOfARoadAtlas · 18/08/2023 13:49

I’ve followed the case, listened to the podcast. I’m a midwife so understand a lot of the medical side of stuff plus ward set up. I do think she’s guilty but I did think she might be found not guilty due to lack of concrete evidence against her specifically.

yes the insulin shows an insulin overdose, likely to be murder rather than an error as they weren’t prescribed insulin so not a drug miscalculation.

yes, from what I’ve read she was the only nurse present at all of the cases in the trial (remember she hasn’t been found guilty for all the attempted murders). But I did read there were other babies who died who haven’t been included in the case. Some of which she may not have been present at. Yes, I get some of those were not thought to be murder……but it does raise the possible question of did they select cases to suit the narrative? 🤷‍♀️. I don’t know.

What do you mean select cases to suit the narrative? They selected the cases where they thought a crime had been committed, and she was found guilty of the ones where the evidence showed - beyond reasonable doubt, that she had murdered the infant. Not sure what you are trying to say here…

Blankscreen · 18/08/2023 14:02

So sad. Just read the history of how the consultants tried to flag the issue several times and were forced to apologise to her.

The hospital were more worried about their reputation and in the meantime she murdered more babies

MarshyMcMarshFace · 18/08/2023 14:02

Mischance · 18/08/2023 13:25

The scariest thing is how long it went unnoticed.

It didn’t.

Consultants started a review after one week of deaths.

And continued to press for investigation.

Management told staff to stop reporting her or face disciplinary action.

Eventually Letby was taken off the ward and put on admin.

It took a further YEAR for the hospital to call the police.

The scary thing is how the hospital ignored it.

She won't survive long in prison. I suspect someone will be willing to do extra time for her.

Absolutely no words.. those poor families.

Everyone said this about Emma Tustin, and she's been locked up for ages now without being killed. It's rare for notorious prisoners to be murdered by inmates. Even Brady & Hindley died of natural causes.

Differentstarts · 18/08/2023 14:03

Chipsahoy · 18/08/2023 13:52

Those saying she looks and seems normal. What do you think nasty abusive people look like? They aren’t monsters. It’s why no one believes the victims because “oh she looked normal”
Abusers and murderers don’t look any different to anyone else.

Well said 👏
