Lucy Letby guilty

Lucy Letby has been convicted of the murder of seven babies and the attempted murder of six more.

My thoughts are with the families of the victims.

It didn't. Apparently quite a few consultants recognised a pattern but nothing came of it.

That is the nub of the situation. Even when she was taken out of the Paediatric unit and given an administrative role, she managed to get herself admitted back onto the rotation of staff covering the neonatal unit time and again and she played the 'I'm being bullied' here card.

My heart breaks for the parents of the poor wee babies, these babies being weakest of us all, who really didn't stand a chance when she was on duty.

Those poor poor babies and their brokenhearted parents.

cheezncrackers · 18/08/2023 13:36

I just saw this and my heart sank - not for her - but that someone could deliberately do such terrible things to tiny babies. My thoughts are with the families of these children Flowers

There needs to be an enquiry into this - the hospital seemed to ignore all concerns, from doctors and nurses.

They even apologised to Letby for accusations that had been made.😡

Indeed - this is where my concern lies. Whistle-blowing in hospitals is often ignored but it is vital to safeguard lives.

the80sweregreat · 18/08/2023 13:37

Not only evil , but also a coward not to attend the sentencing
I hope she rots in hell

BellaTheDarkOverlord · 18/08/2023 13:37

My baby spent 6 weeks in neonatal unit when she was born. I trusted the nurses and doctors there with my tiny baby’s life. I couldn’t imagine not trusting these people who are in charge of keeping your baby alive each day. Those poor families and babies.

LookItsMeAgain · 18/08/2023 13:37

@Elderflower14 - I'm so sorry for your loss. This cannot have been easy for you to listen to. 💐

Whattodo112222 · 18/08/2023 13:38

She won't survive long in prison. I suspect someone will be willing to do extra time for her.

Absolutely no words.. those poor families.

HaveYouHeardOfARoadAtlas · 18/08/2023 13:39

it was suggested Letby attacked the babies because she wanted a married paediatrician, who she insisted was just a close friend but was suspected of having an affair with, to be crash called to the neonatal unit so they could try to save the children together, talk about treatments and sympathise with each other after their deaths.

the80sweregreat · 18/08/2023 13:39

She'll probably kill herself in prison
The cowards way out

Yes she was reported by various colleagues and nothing was done, I really hope those who made the decision to ignore medical professionals are held to account. There are processes which would have allowed for it to be taken seriously without simply believing she did it on their say; there is no excuse.

Op Hummingbird is looking into other deaths around the same time, scary that there could be more to uncover.

Thoughts with the parents and their beautiful babies, as well as the colleagues she tried to accuse in court and the jury who have had to endure this harrowing testimony. I hope everyone who needs it gets the support they require.

viques · 18/08/2023 13:41

Have just read that the jury ( who must have lived through a nightmare during this trial) were not able to reach a majority verdict on some of the deaths and other charges . So those poor parents are still in limbo, my thoughts are with them because they have no chance of closure unless a retrial on those counts is mandated, which I hope it is.

MillWood85 · 18/08/2023 13:41

I had a stillbirth at 27 weeks and it's taken me my entire life to come to terms with. To think of these parents whose premature baby survived the birth and then was murdered in the place they thought they were safest... unimaginable.

My heart hurts for them.

StupidEbay · 18/08/2023 13:41

She's awful. I hate her.

I heard that she was doing it for the attention of a male doctor she was in love with? Not sure if that's definitely true. Craziness.

MrsMarzetti · 18/08/2023 13:42

I hope she rots in prison but of course it will come down to her MH and she will end up in a secure hospital whilst those poor families suffer for the rest of their lives.

BlastedPimples · 18/08/2023 13:42

It's just utterly inconceivable that anyone would do these heinous crimes.

It's beyond wickedness.

Mumuser124 · 18/08/2023 13:42

@DysonSpheres

Did you actually follow the court case? There is absolutely no doubt she is guilty.

One of the deaths was caused by injecting insulin into a feed, nobody on the ward was having insulin at the time. She admitted this must have been done intentionally but it wasn’t her?! So had to be one of two other nurses. She was the only nurse present at EVERY single one of the misterious and unexplainable deaths.

I followed the case live and I am a nurse so it may be clearer for me to see but there is absolutely no way she is not guilty. I strongly suspect she has Munchausen's by proxy because she seems to be able to separate what she has done with murder. I think she genuinely just wanted to be apart of a high adrenalin situation, gaining as much sympathy for her as possible (attention) and killing those poor babies was a means of gaining that. I don’t think she ‘feels’ she murdered them.

Precisely

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 18/08/2023 13:43

Due to her using her profession to enable her to commit her heinous crimes. (She’s no different to Wayne Couzens really, is she)
. The age and the number of her victims and the fact that she was over 21 when she carried out her sordid acts. Surely to God she has to be given a WLO

viviscool · 18/08/2023 13:44

she'll probably end up in Rampton like Beverley Allitt

Whattodo112222 · 18/08/2023 13:44

I really hope its a whole life order that's imposed on her like Wayne Couzens

My heart sank as well, I wanted her to be innocent because the thought of someone being capable of murdering an innocent baby is inconceivable.

It’s far easier for me to blame a failing hospital than to confront the fact that someone trusted to care for children, someone who appears trustworthy could do this.

Bejazzled · 18/08/2023 13:44

Listening to the families speak of their dreadful experiences is heartbreaking.
Listening to the consultants who tried to get the ‘managers’ to act on their suspicions is enraging.

I would pull the lever on her noose myself, she deserves no humanity.

LadyDanburysHat · 18/08/2023 13:44

I really hope those families do get some kind of closure. I feel for the families where the jury felt unable to return a verdict. I have listened to the podcast on this and felt that some of the evidence may not have been strong enough for some of the babies.

It does just completely blow my mind as a normal human, how someone can do this to innocent little babies. It's not even as if she could use the excuse she was giving mercy to really sick babies. It was ones who were doing well that she chose to do this to.😔

BellaTheDarkOverlord · 18/08/2023 13:45

And to add to my last post I remember whilst dd was in the ward and when the nurse changed her bedding they found a little plastic thing in her bed. The nurse was really concerned about it and a big deal was made as to why this plastic thing was left in the bed. This was an immobile baby so couldn’t have choked on it and it was I think a tiny lid to maybe a feeding tube. However the staff there did an investigation as to how it had been missed. They were really thorough about it.

This is absolutely sickening.

Those poor babies lost their tiny lives because she wanted to impress someone and live out a fantasy. She is the lowest of the lowest scum ever.
