Lucy Letby guilty

BarelyLiterate · 18/08/2023 13:12

Lucy Letby has been convicted of the murder of seven babies and the attempted murder of six more.

My thoughts are with the families of the victims.

What possesses someone to go through all that training, to get into such a caring and trusted role, to then do what she's done. To the most vulnerable and defenceless victims there could be. Its incomprehensible.

This case feels very weird to me

I’ve not really seen any complelling evidence

really hope the court had some

tragic all round

Were you in court everyday? Involved in the police investigation? The people that did see the compelling evidence have found her guilty of numerous crimes. But…ok! You probably know better!!

problembottom · 18/08/2023 13:57

Pure evil. It sounds all about this married doctor, thought it worth killing the babies to keep his attention? Not sure why he should get to keep his anonymity to be honest.

I also think the hospital executives who kept her at work despite the protestations of several consultants should be prosecuted. More babies were harmed because of them.

Why would the consultant NOT remain anonymous? What involvement do you think he had in what she did?

Having followed the case on the threads I'm not confident in this judgement.

How so?

Do the jury for a case like this get counselling after?

It must be horrific - to know that your opinion is the difference between someone guilty getting away with murder/someone innocent spending their life in prison.

It’s not an opinion its guilt proven beyond a reasonable doubt. Opinion is what is formed by the general public, jury’s look at the facts of a case and determine that there’s no reasonable way someone could be innocent.

RebeccaCloud9 · 18/08/2023 14:05

I just can't get my head around it. Shouldn't judge a book etc, but some murderers just aren't a surprise when you see pics of them, you kind of think 'well I'd steer clear of them'. But like others have said, she just looks so normal. You feel like you could trust your instincts about who is safe and who isn't, but this just goes to show it can be anyone!

TooOldForThisNonsense · 18/08/2023 14:05

Evil woman

supplelegmassage · 18/08/2023 14:06

Poor, poor, poor families. My love and prayer to them.

bit of an overreaction I never suggested I knew better

Tragic. The evidence was compelling though.

Actually if you follow the podcast the “evidence” was basically that she had looked the mums up on Facebook- then they revealed she looked everyone up on Facebook. And she had handover sheets- then later revealed she had handover sheets from loads of other shifts she worked. It was extremely flimsy and circumstantial. That being said I think she probably is guilty I just can’t believe they could convict someone on actually really poor evidence

TheFirstStraw · 18/08/2023 14:07

Laiste · 18/08/2023 13:57

God, could you imagine your daughter or son being accused of this - and then found guilty.

I have first hand experience of watching how a parent can find excuses for their adult child's repellent criminal actions, mainly, i think, to give their own brain some way to cope. But something like this? How do they live with it?

The parents of Andreas Lubitz (the co-pilot who locked the pilot out and then purposefully crashed that Germanwings plane, killing 150 passengers) basically went down the conspiracy theory route of deciding their son wasn't guilty and that something else had happened, I believe. I would guess there's enough room for doubt here for Letby's parents to do the same, assuming they can't accept it. Maybe they know really but that doubt just gives them enough space to live with it.

Wenfy · 18/08/2023 14:07

ISpyNoPlumPie · 18/08/2023 14:02

What do you mean select cases to suit the narrative? They selected the cases where they thought a crime had been committed, and she was found guilty of the ones where the evidence showed - beyond reasonable doubt, that she had murdered the infant. Not sure what you are trying to say here…

The court has said 7 babies died due to wider malpractice at the hospital. A lot of medical professionals believe Letby herself was set up as a fall guy or to cover up something bigger. I expect more investigations and appeals to come soon.

Abra1t · 18/08/2023 14:08

I think she does look ‘different’ from Myra Hindley, rose West and Beverley Arlitt. Fresher-faced.

Newtrix · 18/08/2023 14:08

SuperBurgers · 18/08/2023 13:19

The scary part is she looks so bloody normal, just a couple of years younger than me, someone I could go out for drinks with. She looks happy in her photos... just how does this happen? How can people be this twisted? What was she getting out of it?

That's exactly what I think when I've seen photos of her.

problembottom · 18/08/2023 14:09

ISpyNoPlumPie · 18/08/2023 14:04

I don't think he had any involvement in what she did - but nor did anyone else named in the court proceedings? The court found she acted alone.

supplelegmassage · 18/08/2023 14:09

She didn't look especially "normal" to me. But I also never would have considered her guilty on how she looks either. I work as a hairdresser and have met a lot of "normal looking" very odd characters. I've also worked with adults with learning difficulties who were good people and who I came to find some thought were "weird" purely on how they look. Not once did I give Loo-seat Letby a pass because she's white, young with an average-meh face. May she rot!

TheDuchessOfMN · 18/08/2023 14:10

That’s what makes it even more frightening, the fact that she looks so normal - she’s “pretty”.

As for why she did it, I noticed that in her texts, she repeatedly said that the parents thanked her or thought highly of her.. I don’t know the correct psychological terminology but some sort of narcissism at play…

Those poor babies and their families. There is nothing that can ever make it better for them. Imagine the surviving twins or triplet growing up without the others Sad

BarelyLiterate · 18/08/2023 13:17

Breaking on Sky News now.
Letby is the most prolific child killer in U.K. legal history.
Police are now looking into the deaths of several other children.

Unthinkable crimes.

I'm guessing they aren't counting it because its historic and count never proven but its almost certain Amelia Dyer killed more.

Lwrenagain · 18/08/2023 14:10

I personally am 100% convinced of her guilt.

I wish nothing but beautiful things for the families of the babies murdered and hope they can live their lives with some peace now, that their grief doesn't consume every second of every day and they have some quality of livelihood. Those precious, precious little ones deserved so much more. Rest peacefully, little people.

May the rest of her life be a hell so unbearable, we simply can't imagine it.

Notbeinfunnehbut · 18/08/2023 14:06

Oh come off it. You’ve not seen any compelling evidence and you hope the court had some. Obviously they did! That’s how the legal system works.

wayyour · 18/08/2023 14:10

And she had handover sheets- then later revealed she had handover sheets from loads of other shifts she worked. It was extremely flimsy and circumstantial.

Is that the 'souvenirs of the murders' as one or two of the newspapers have called them? Paper towels and blood gas readings being examples, apparently.

ZoeCM · 18/08/2023 14:11

HaveYouHeardOfARoadAtlas · 18/08/2023 13:39

it was suggested Letby attacked the babies because she wanted a married paediatrician, who she insisted was just a close friend but was suspected of having an affair with, to be crash called to the neonatal unit so they could try to save the children together, talk about treatments and sympathise with each other after their deaths.

from the press

That is beyond sick. Why is it that the most evil female serial killers seem to have been motivated by their desire to hold onto a man - Myra Hindley, Karla Homolka, and now this cunt? And then there are all the women out there who allow their partners to abuse, or even murder, their children. It seems that some women are so utterly obsessed with keeping a man that they start to see other human beings as objects to be sacrificed for that goal.

CharlotteRose90 · 18/08/2023 14:12

We all knew she would be. Evil evil woman . Those poor families. Shame we can’t put her down too. We shouldn’t be paying for her to rot in prison

DysonSpheres · 18/08/2023 14:12

Mumuser124 · 18/08/2023 13:42

@DysonSpheres

Did you actually follow the court case? There is absolutely no doubt she is guilty.

One of the deaths was caused by injecting insulin into a feed, nobody on the ward was having insulin at the time. She admitted this must have been done intentionally but it wasn’t her?! So had to be one of two other nurses. She was the only nurse present at EVERY single one of the misterious and unexplainable deaths.

I followed the case live and I am a nurse so it may be clearer for me to see but there is absolutely no way she is not guilty. I strongly suspect she has Munchausen's by proxy because she seems to be able to separate what she has done with murder. I think she genuinely just wanted to be apart of a high adrenalin situation, gaining as much sympathy for her as possible (attention) and killing those poor babies was a means of gaining that. I don’t think she ‘feels’ she murdered them.

I was able to completely understand everything from the court case, admittedly. The insulin..there was debate online as to whether it was actually provable that insulin had been added to the bag and that it was a mistake for the defence to have accepted that it was.

But the evidence didn't seem strong, enough, mostly coincidental and I didn't think the prosecution witnesses strong either. From the beginning I thought it inevitable though that she'd be found guilty regardless. It's that sort of case. And that's what leaves uncertainty in mind. These sorts of female perpetrator cases are hard to prosecute in non-biased way. The press doesn't help.

But it's between her and God now.

What, even considering the material found in Letby’s home?
